TTOne v Levin (3-2); TTOne wins!

Hey guys, I'm going to be hosting the twelfth (Wiki)Open Wolf Cup on 24 October 2010. This tournament is open to all players, regardless of rank/ladder standing. It will take place on the US servers and will have a $250 prize pool.

In addition, I'm holding a banner contest throughout this week for those of you who would like to win a permanent spot in future Open Wolf Cups. PlxDratewka won last time, and has been providing the banners for the last ten or so cups, and I thought I'd give people another chance to be creative and make another main banner. In addition, feel free to also come up with sub-banner ideas, or also caster overlays for casters covering Open Wolf Cups. Any sort of banner I can end up using will earn you a future spot.

Oh, and PlxDratewka, you're not losing your spots. Just wanted to change things up a bit. I might keep using old banners, too, if none of the submissions are good enough!

If you are interested in taking part in this open tournament, sign up here (click link) with your character name, race, and character code. If you are uncomfortable giving out your code, send me a PM instead. The tournament will have 64 players, but continue to sign up, as in most tournaments about ten or fifteen backups are needed. Keep watching this thread, as it will be updated with important information very regularly. All future signups will take place on Good Games of North America.

Please don't sign up for this tournament and then fail to show; check your schedule.

I have a list of all noshows and will continue to keep a list. If a player does not show up three times, they will never be allowed to participate in my tournaments again. So, before contacting me to be put on the list, PLEASE check your schedule and also check the tournament procedures.

Disclaimer regarding signups: If you sign up before someone else, it doesn't guarantee your entry. Some players have reserved spots because they have performed well (defeated well-known players, got first, second place), did artwork (banners, etc), or generally assisted me in some running these tournaments, and have been promised spots. In general, if you've been known to not show up for past tournaments, it's not likely that you'll be skipped over when the selections are made (and you're almost guaranteed to not be selected if you've missed three tournaments without notifying me). Another thing that is key is that I try to get a balanced number of races to avoid P/T-dominated tournaments. Thanks for understanding, and always remember to show up as a backup!

This tournament will take place on the US Servers on

Sunday 24 October, at 3:00 PM, EDT (GMT -4).

Prize Pool: $200 (first), $50(second)

Just show up with the tag _backup in IRC and you'll possibly be able to play. No backup list this cup. Thanks.

Note: Reserved slots are for former winners, assistants, and those who have earned permanent slots in OWCs.

Until the semifinals, this tournament will be played in single-elimination rounds. At the semifinals, a best-of-three will be played, and the finals will be a best-of-five set. Many players will probably disagree with this, but it's for the sake of time. This tournament would be FAR too long if the sets were longer for elimination. If a player fails to show up for his match, he will lose by default or be replaced by a backup player.

This tournament will be race-restricting, so once you pick a race, you cannot swap during the tournament. However, if you'd like to change races before the tournament begins, contact me and let me know.

Note about live commentary: Players have the right to refuse casters UNTIL the semifinals/finals. At which time, one caster is required per game for live coverage. Refusing all live casters results in a disqualification.

Prior to Semifinals: Lost Temple, Metalopolis, Jungle Basin, Scrap Station, Delta Quadrant

Semifinals and finals: Lost Temple, Xel'Naga Caverns, Shakuras Plateau, Metalopolis, Steppes of War

Essentially, at 2:30 PM EST, ALL players MUST join my IRC channel (see http://thepassingshadow.com/IRC_Chat.html ). Players will use their exact character name as their nickname in IRC (put an underscore afterwards if there are problems with the nick being taken, which can sometimes happen with connection errors). The bracket will be posted so that players can see who their first opponents are. Once in IRC, players should find their opponents and PM them (/msg <username> <message> ) and start sending friend codes so that they can add each other as friends. After that, the players should enter a party with one another, do map eliminations to decide which map they will be playing on (see map pool), and then wait for me to tell everyone to begin their first match (will happen at 3 PM EDT). What happens if your opponent does not show up ? PM me in IRC letting me know, and I will either replace your opponent with someone on the waiting list or let you know that you will receive a lucky free win (bye) and will wait for the second round to begin.

After I announce in IRC to begin, all 32 parties will play their first game. Casters will begin casting some of these games. Whenever someone finishes their first game, the WINNER will PM me on IRC, specifying both who won and who lost. Once all groups of players have sent me the winners and losers, and EVERY game of the first round is finished, the second bracket will be posted and players will once again PM each other with character information. Once everyone has finished round one, the second round will begin.Once again, the WINNER will PM me on IRC with both the winner and the loser. This will repeat until the semifinals.

Semifinals/Finals: Semifinalists will play a best out of three with counter-picks for maps from the Map Pool section. Afterwards, the winner will be announced and everyone will be free to ask for rematches, etcetera etcetera, ask me questions in chat. There may or may not be a third place match.

What happens in a dispute over who won the match ? I will add one of the players' realIDs, and look at match history. If there is a further dispute, I will ask for the replay file. Otherwise, sending replays is optional, not required.

Last note-- If your opponent disconnects, or claims to, it is up to you to allow him to replay or not.

As of now, these casters will cast (VERY subject to change):

Ipp (with Ragequit,tv), SirazTV, myself, Shigure, drooL, Trump and others who contact me.

Casting team is being organised. Please PM me if you are interested.

Casters-- Use an overlay (main image from this thread)

Casting rules:

-Do not stream someone else's stream; that simply lowers quality
-Do not list yourself as covering the event if you are not, in fact, covering the event (TL mods may delist your stream if you do this)
-There will be absolutely no spectators except official casters who are covering the event (This means no friends, random spectators, lobby joining lurkers, etcetera; they will be kicked. This minimises lag and makes casting much easier for us.)
-Do not advertise yourself, ask for donations, or use the event for your own publicity
-If you are playing in the finals or semifinals, you must allow one caster to stream your games live; not doing so results in a disqualification

+ Show Spoiler +
Just remember; when Day9 does his dailies, or has huge events like his launch party, do people stream his stream ? The reason why TeamLiquid allows this event to be listed is so that several casters can cover the event and make this a fun community 'gathering' that a lot of people can be involved in. If you want to cast, simply contact me. Thanks guys.

Agh and SCV, your signups worked just fine. perhaps it didn't refresh fast enough. either way, the sign-ups for the OWC are http://ggsna.com/tournaments/sign-upapply-for-tournament < here. so please use that location. if you fill out the form, you WILL be signed up, whether you can see your name or not.

just double checked to make sure it was in fact working. make sure all fields are filled out, that the date/event is selected, and that when you submit it says in blue at the top of the page that it was successful. Agh and SCV, your sign-ups were just fine so i'm not sure why you didn't think it worked. for everyone else, don't be discouraged, it is perfectly operational. it's a new system, might be a bit confusing, but it works fine.

if you want to make sure it worked, simply go to tournaments > open wolf cup XII applicants, and make sure your name is on the list. it's really not that complicated >.< there have been plenty of people signing up with no issues...

wolf and i will be keeping an eye on the situation of course, but there really shouldn't be any problems at the moment.

okay, one last post to clarify any issues:

the use the link above to sign up
register for ggsna.com
then fill out the page, making sure you fill out every item, as well as select the tournament line with the date of the tournament
once everything is complete (it should take you about 20 seconds), submit
there should be a confirmation at the top of the page after submission.

that's it. it's working. feel free to put whatever you like in "title field"

and to zelniq, your sign-up worked perfectly, so...more evidence that all is working as intended.

Sorry if this is getting annoying.. but I (leafblower) signed up using the form, but when I go to the open wolf cup applicants I don't see any names listed at all. I just want to make sure I did it right -_-

when you sign up, one of two things will happen:

a blue tag will appear at the top of the screen saying you are missing fields or

a blue tag will appear saying application successful.

please check the top of the page to make sure you didn't miss a field. i'm going to have to implement a huge ERROR sign or something when someone doesn't do it right in the future. but for now, please just look at the top of the page. it's very self-explanatory.

@ leafblower, when you go to applicants, you have to click on the event/date to see applicants. i don't think you did it right. no worries, just run through once more and check, please for blue tags at the top that tell you if you were successful

...man i wish the 50 people who had no problem signing up would post and say how it works so it didn't sound like i was just telling everyone they were stupid or something >.<
