Game 1: Anytime vs GGPlay on Tau Cross
Anytime fast expanded to start off the game at 5, while also preventing GGplay’s expo attempt by blocking the choke between the main and nat with a pylon. GGPlay had pooled first though, and his lings quickly allowed him access to his extra minerals. In the meantime, Anytime blocked his choke with a gateway and cannons, content to expand himself.
GGPlay opted to drop a spire before expanding again, looking to harass Anytime with mutalisks and set his booming economy back. His harassment was good, but not excellent, and Anytime was able to quickly recover. He was going to have to move quickly though, as GGPlay had taken the third main and natural, for a total of four gas.
Move quickly he did, and the protoss ninja massed speedlots and corsairs to take down expansions and battle mutalisks. With GGPlay slow to switch to lurks, Anytime got ahead by leveling the natural at 11 and taking his mineral only. His corsairs reigned supreme, and while GGPlay countered at the new expansion, Anytime was able to rally the troops and save it.
From this point on, GGPlay was fighting from behind. Anytime comboed dt’s and sairs nicely, showing off some great corsair micro against scourge. GGPlay answered with drops, but they were intercepted and ineffective. Anytime positioned his army in mid map, and he consistently shut down GGPlay’s expansion attempts while taking the bottom of the map himself. Finally GGPlay had spent his initial bases, and had little to fight with.
Anytime 1-0 GGPlay
Game two for all series will be held next week.
Game 2: GoRush vs Sea[Shield] on Peaks
Sea has been an absolute terror since bursting onto the scene, and his quest for an OSL title continued, this time against GoRush. He started on the bottom of the map, and was safe from any early pressure as GoRush expanded to his natural. Unable to scout the zerg main (or find the hidden third hatchery at twelve), Sea decided to expand himself after a couple marines, setting the stage for his frightening macro game. GoRush quickly took his second gas, and was up to something with that third hatchery away off in the middle of nowhere.
It turns out it was spire tech, as GoRush was hoping Sea would assume lurkers with two hatcheries. As Sea paraded the map with his MM, GoRush got in behind his position and unsuccessfully raided the terran expo. However, the mutalisk harass that followed was very damaging, picking off scv and marines by the bunch. GoRush, sensing victory now or never, continued to harass with his mutalisks, and tried to go all-in with a muta/ling attack. However, Sea was able to produce just enough marines to weather the assault. As GoRush ran out of steam, it was the kid’s turn to strike back.
Having gone SK Terran from the beginning, Sea was now blessed with many barracks and irradiating vessels. Turns out he chose his strat because some random nobody dissed him on a forum. Whatever his motivation, it worked, as GoRush had difficulty emerging from his low-eco start. As his lurkers popped from poison gas, Sea’s macro jumped up with another expo at 5. GoRush held him off well with hydra/lurk, giving him time to expand again, but when tanks started rolling off the line, Sea’s force was almost unstoppable. After two drops failed to knock out enough of the terran infrastructure, the SK1 zerg typed GG.
Sea 1-0 GoRush
Game 3: Iris vs FireBatHero on Arkanoid
This one was short and sweet, as FBH obviously decided he was no match for Iris’ TvT. FBH floated three barracks over the first set of walls, and went to work making an MM force. Iris simply started up his factories, and upon finding an MM force outside his main, built a bunker and then vultures. As FBH killed next to nothing, a goliath laden dropship emptied his main of scv and it was GG, as fast as TvT can happen.
Iris 1-0 FireBatHero
Game 4: Midas vs Jju on Arcadia
My boy Jju was looking all business as he got set to take on Midas. The TL drums of favour have been beating in Midas’ favour for a while, but after an early MSL exit, he had some provin’ to do. With vertical positions, and Midas on top, the terran had a solid early game advantage. Jju’s expo hatchery was bunkered right away, and the zerg lost several drones defending against it, despite the fact the bunker was never finished. Predictably, Midas expanded, and huddled behind his depot/rax wall.
Back in the zerg camp, Jju had double expo’ed himself and set himself up for five hatch muta ling. Unfazed, Midas defended his base with a maze of bunkers and turrets while continuing to macro heavily. The muta harass was soon frustrated, and the terran army of death rolled out as Jju spawned lurkers. In a decisive battle, Jju pincered Midas with lukers on one side and muta/ling on the other. However, the mutas got slightly ahead, and the whole timing of the attack failed. With another huge army fresh off the assembly line, Midas rallied south and leveled the zerg main. Scary scary micro.
Midas 1-0 Jju
Tonight’s THUMBS UP Midas’ hotkeys, for gifting him with undeserved amounts of MM.
Tonight’s THUMBS DOWN goes to the two pretty girls in the audience who ducked away TWO TIMES on camera. You don’t often get on twice, but they were some good looking MILF’s.
Tonight’s recommended game is Anytime vs GGPlay, because Anytime makes PvZ look imbalanced for P. His micro, map management, and game flow tactics were breath taking. I am currently eating my “never see Anytime in the OSL again” comments with a large side order of humility.
So the whole OSL picture looks like this right now:
Midas 1-0 Jju
Iris 1-0 FireBatHero
Anytime 1-0 GGPlay
Sea 1-0 GoRush
TT 1-0 NaDa
Zergman 1-0 July
Bisu 1-0 BF
Rock 1-0 Shine
