What is the "on standby" status of places 5-8 ?
Did you update the rules mid tourney to not have 8 Korean powerhouses in NASL ? I'm confused. (even if my assumption is totally wrong, I would appreciate an answer on the first 2 questions)

We're looking into a small change to our format, which is why we've made the change from guarantee of 8 to guarantee to 4.

We're planning on dropping the number of players in the league to 45, rather than 50. This is the reason for the change.

Are there any reason for this change? New format?

Yes, we're making some slight alterations to our format for Season 2 in order to make everything smoother and easier for players, casters, and lessen viewer fatigue.

This seems pretty unfair (more unfair than it already was) to players eliminated from NASL. Eliminated players can't play in the open, for which there are 8 slots in the next season (I guess so they can't get first place and a spot in the current season 16) and now the qualifier, the only way to requalify may only have 4 slots. So at most if this change goes through, only four of 16 eliminated players could requalify.

What if hypothetically the bottom 16 players are still better than any new players trying to qualify? The system already limits half of them from getting in, now limited to a fourth. In this hypothetical situation, 8 inferior players could make it into the NASL because the poor qualifier formatting. It was already a silly format limiting their chances but now it's worse.

Oh, and since Xeris likes criticism with suggestions, it seems to be that it would be better to have the open only decide the extra player for the final 16 and have all new qualifiers decided in the qualifier so that every player who wants to qualify has an equal chance. I'm not really a big fan of the idea of injecting a new player into the finals of a season that players spent 2 months earning their spots. I understand that the open is still difficult. It seems like the system could at least be made to not hurt the chances of eliminated players in comparison to new players trying out.

At this point, I guess there's really nothing that can be done this season. NASL already awarded 8 spots to the Open top 8 and if they're making the player pool smaller, the only way is to make it so that less players from the qualifier can make it in. However it would be something to keep in mind for season 3.

So 4 places less from this but 5 less places overall?

Didn't someone say they wanted to drop out after this NASL - is that it?

@Ansalem

Could any of the eliminated players have a serious chance against either the Open Koreans or the NSQ Koreans? I don't really think so.

God I am so Excited for this tournament. Some great foriegners, some terrific koreans, it's gonna be an amazing time.

I REALLY hope MKP can qualify, as well as some of the FXO boys and maybe some of Slayers and of course our two brave liquidians.

Fighting!

The NASL desperately needs new blood with the number of players that were uncompetitive in the league last season. Why not have 8 new people qualify and take away more spots from players who were mediocre or poor in the league this season?

Are the games going to be played today as there are only 124 participants and Ro128 isn't scheduled until tomorrow? I was really looking forward to seeing some SC2 today.

I'd assume it has to do with contractual obligations. They already told those players what they were fighting for and they just be like "aha guess again!", but they could change the format for next year if they wanted to. It's pretty great all things considered that they're even making changes this early. I mean sure, it'd be good for us the viewer if they changed things earlier on but it woulda been a dick move to the players. What if they had cut it down to top four of the qualifying tournament after thorzain placed top 8? woulda been rough.

It's a shame that only 4 players from this great tournament are going to qualify, but it's probably pretty much the only solution at the time.

Maybe maybe not. Someone could have a day with their a-game on. It's more of the principle. Think about in future seasons when the members of the league have grown to a higher level of play and the competition to get in is fierce. Think of how strange it would be for say the GSL to have a great player like Leenock who had to re-qualify this season only be able to qualify for a half or a third of the spots available in the next season because he was in the previous season. I can't see a reason for it and it could be avoided pretty easily.
