No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.

Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers.

If you want good characterization, read some books or watch Firefly. If you want morality, read a book by about Ethics and Morality or watch a show like Dexter or Breaking Bad. You obviously don't want any of those things that badly, so clearly whatever else there is to the fandom has little or nothing to do with the show itself.

So then it makes me think that you all collectively either like the show because of some sort of bizarre internet-fad herd mentality or you're out to get attention. Those aren't very good traits.

It's a show, and I like it.

End of story.

I just hope you all understand that there's consequences for publicly liking something like this. I don't personally have anything wrong with what you like and watch. To me its like peoples' sexual interests. I don't care what you like to do in the bedroom, but I would highly recommend against going around with a shirt on that says, "I like to eat girls out while they are on their periods."

Liking something aimed at children like this comes across as very creepy and potentially pedophilic behavior. The fact that there is a good underlying structure doesn't really excuse it. It's like adults who play competitive Pokemon. Yes, they are phenomenal games and no one else makes a similar product (games with identical gameplay and quality). The difference is that other people DO make similar products (shows, music, books) as My Little Pony.

I'd like to apologize for my recent outburst in IRC. I know posting it here makes it sound a million times worse than it was, but I thought it warranted a permanent place in the thread. I just kinda melted down and was tired of seeing people get angry...so I got angry. It's been a really weird few days for me, but everything is gonna smooth out soon enough. But I can't promise I won't flip out again before then, I'm not exactly of a stable mind right now.

"The people who care don't matter, and the people who matter don't care"

I gave up caring what most people thought of me a long time ago. Every action has consequences, wearing a TL shirt has consequences, liking MLP has consequences, reading books has consequences. We live by the choices we make, so I choose to be public about enjoying MLP, one of the consequences is that I get to participate in this great community of people that share my interest. Same way I am public about liking starcraft, its no shameful secret to be hidden. If it changes how people think about me, then so be it, the benefits outweigh the consequences.

When you ask "why don't you do ____ instead of watching MLP? it has X attribute you are looking for!" I feel like when people ask me "Why do you watch Starcraft 2 instead of LoL, LoL has more intensive micro and decision making!"

Theres plenty of folks who enjoy the show who don't participate in anything community related beyond looking at few pieces of fan-art or the occasional remix (if even that)

before anything though the vast amount of community related stuff that appeals to tons of people all has its roots in the show, the whole fandom did not just appear out of thin air, the show is completely legit and to question the sincerity of its fans at this point is getting extremely tiring

So clearly the show has some merit to people that you don't share, to echo the people above me - people have different tastes, maybe i'd rather watch MLP than Dexter, listen to an awesome remix by makkon06 no big deal, i still enjoy other kinds of music and entertainment

Edit: I never saw what happened Camail but take care of yourself man I hope you get through whatever rough patch you're in at the moment

Well unfortunately your quote is completely untrue. If you believe there is a single person out there whose opinion doesn't matter, you are the fool, not me. Especially if that person is in a position of power over you.

I mentioned at work a few days ago that there is a large demographic of Males 18-34 who watch My Little Pony and talk about it obsessively on the internet. A number of people were really freaked out by the idea and immediately jumped to the conclusion that you must all be anti-social man-children with personality disorders or closet pedophiles. I don't like that level of mistrust and othering occurs in our society, but it does at present. You aren't going to be able to make it very far working with others if you constantly other yourself by doing things that are so far 'out there'.

As someone said somewhere out there(fuck I don't remember the link), "If you see a 18 year old liking Spongebob Squarepants, a 30 year old liking The Muppets, these aren't wrong, are they? So why is it different than MLP?"

I like stuff aimed at children because I am one at heart, and I have no fucking idea how pedophilia has anything to do with liking these kind of stuff. I mean, I laugh and enjoy Pixar movies all the time - the other day I was watching Cars 2 with my brother, and we had a great time. The main problem I have when saying I like MLP is that it is girly, but that it's childish? Meh, if you were to follow what the society puts as "right" for your age, you'd grow into an old boring workaholic.

The wrong are those who put stereotypes into things. Anything. Seriously.

Dude.

We like the show, so we watch it. We will continue to watch it no matter what anyone else thinks.

Thank you. Simply for giving the show a try. Just for that, you are better than 90% of the people who just come into this thread just to troll/make fun of/try to insult us. All we've ever asked of skeptics is that they watch a few episodes. If they like it - Great? This good show got another fan and nothing was lost. Didn't like it? That's ok too. Thanks for trying, good luck elsewhere.

In your post, you mention the different great aspects of the show: The music, the morals the characterization, ect. The point we like to make is that this show has ALL of them at the same time. Some shows may have one, or two, but this one has the complete package (in my humble opinion of course). We like it because its a great show that happens to speak to our inner child, which makes us smile, something we ALL need from time to time.

I would like to repeat one of my favorite quotes of all time, from C.S. Lewis -
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
― C.S. Lewis

This is something that I think most of the fans of this show know and follow, even if they have never heard this quote or know who C.S. Lewis is. Simply saying something is childish and dismissing it forthright without even giving it a chance or trying to make people who like said childish thing feel bad about liking it is wrong. I am -PROUD- of liking this show, I let my friends and family know, I plan on buying merch with my disposable income, and I LOVE hanging out in IRC and this thread. If my friends disapprove of my interests to the point of not being my friends anymore, well there is no loss to me, they weren't really my friends in the first place.

Finally I would like to address the last line in your post. "So then it makes me think that you all collectively either like the show because of some sort of bizarre internet-fad herd mentality or you're out to get attention. Those aren't very good traits." This can't be more blatantly wrong and ad hominem. We aren't out to get attention. I speak for myself, of course, but I don't force people to like this show. I introduce them to it, and encourage them to watch it, yes, but that is simply a lesson in trying new things, something every one of us can be better at. As to the "Bizzare internet-fad" statement: This show began back in 2010. Since then there have been so many different charitable causes started that has raised a staggering amount of money for different causes. One of the biggest - Humble Brony Bundle - raised over 17k for Child's Play and Toys for Tots, and that is just ONE off the top of my head! Honestly, your post lost all meaning with that last sentence, and would have made it that much stronger had it been left out.

To conclude, I am a Brony - I am proud of it, and I am proud to call the TL Bronys my friends, and I hope they can call me the same. I am NOT a disturbed individual for liking a show targeted to children. And again - THANK YOU for even giving the show a chance. That's more than we could say for many other trolls that come here thinking they are better than us.

There's a difference between what you do in a work environment and what you do in your free time, and between enjoying something and rubbing it in.

I wouldn't bring up ponies in a job interview, nor would I run around telling my co-workers about them, not out of shame, but because its not professional, the same reasons you wouldn't bring up politics or religion. Same way I might wear a pony shirt in my free time, I wouldn't run around preaching about ponies, much like some people wear shirts with political messages on them.

I see your point, but I don't think its that different from political, religious or other beliefs, its something you don't bring work, because people feel too strongly about the topic to think rationally.

people who think that way are pretty stupid and i don't care what such people think about me.

just because you watch a cartoon which is targeted mainly at children you are a pedo? seriously? that makes people who watch spongebob also pedos? i really don't think so. if liking a activity which is mostly aimed at little children is a "potentially pedophilic behavior" wouldn't that also include stuff like eating candy or cereals? can you seriously say for yourself that you don't enjoy ANY activity which is mainly seen as childish? you know, for example video games

sure you can find a lot of stuff which makes MLP so watchable for us in other shows, which is a reason why a lot of us also watch them. but MLP is like every other show more than the sum of it's part.

i watch MLP because i like the innocence of the show. sure the morales are not deep and it is mostly predicable. but i can sincerly watch and enjoying it. and what more reason do i need to do so?

i'm a 28 year old male and i enjoy a pony cartoon. deal with it :D

I've come to this thread every day since the newest episode, hoping for a deluge of Derpy art, and nobody has delivered. I think now would be the perfect time to ask for this, as the thread is in desperate need of lightening up.

So BRING ME YOUR DERPY ART!

@SirKibbleX

You clearly do have a problem with 'us', because you've been quite persistant. You saying "Well person X will hate you for it" is a kind of projection. Please state the problem YOU have with us so one of us can address it directly.

But as others have said, we don't care what people think of us, the people who do have extremely negative reactions aren't worth having as friends, and other people we just wouldn't tell about it.

You must know that liking something is not a rational process and although one can verbally justify it with reasons like "the characters are good" or "the animation is good", really it is just an internal arbitrary like/dislike spectrum for each film/show/music track/book, we have little control over.
