Here is the issue. We have a number of large subforums which easily could take up a sidebar spot. Mafia and LoL come to mind, and really they would be first in line to get a sidebar spot. But at the moment it doesn't look like there is enough support to put it on the sidebar.
With that said we are happy to create a subforum for TLHF and have it accessible publicly like the LoL forum. But then it loses all spots on the sidebar which is sadly the tradeoff for getting a forum. So it's up to you guys really.

Most likely, but would still need to be discussed.

There's no way you could have a section of permalinks like this?
|
I would put additional under community.
That way if you have community closed you can also have the rest of them closed
edit: oh wait it doesnt work like that... but it should

Just bookmark it ^^

To be fair I never use the sidebar for anything, although I recall a poll done a while back that the majority actually does use it, so it's unfortunate that TL H&F will lose its presence in the sidebar (especially considering given its popularity, it's almost always in the top 5)
Actually I think Ludrik has a great idea too, a single link for all of the sub-forums. If you just keep adding them though, it might get cluttered or whatever (in fact I already think the User Streams and Fan Clubs look a little cluttered)
Maybe something like this (I put in Streams and Fan Clubs in there as well, but of course they don't have to be changed, I just think it looks more consistent). By default you'd have the Sub-Forums thing minimzed on the left, and if the user wants, they could expand it to show as follows:

I also like the idea of an addition to the sidebar linking to sub-forums. If that option is not available, I would say that a sticky in the community thread would be sufficient.

making the mafia forum public might just stir up confusion. Because you need special access, it's hidden until you are given access, and can then be found in the forum index.
I support a sub forum section for the public sub forums, though.

I think that would be fine. The thread is getting way too much traffic presently, it's almost impossible to follow.

I think this is actually a much better implementation than the current system!

As someone who reads and posts in the thread:
Can one of you guys make an estimate how many active people post in there? While the thread is pretty busy I feel it's mostly the same bunch posting over and over again. I don't think they will fill a forum.
Regarding:

It's up to the regular posters in the thread. If someon comes in and just wants to lose weight but doesn't want to do any lifting and 10 people jump in and say he should do lifting anyway of course he won't feel welcome. If you look at the 2009 TLHF thread is used to be much more diverse.

I would be all for this as well. It's a great idea and it would add more character to the website. Definitely needs more weight around here.
