If you look at individual player quality you'd say our odds of reaching the finals are not bad at all. I think our midfield hasn't really gelled yet. Starting with Renato Sanches would help but Fernando Santos is afraid that his exuberance would result in compromising positioning and passing errors that could result in chances for the other side.
Overall I think this 4-4-2 with two wingers upfront can only go so far. It would need a midfield creating chances and Moutinho does not shoot, is declining and a light weight, André Gomes has been awkward, João Mário seemingly only plays well for a second tier Portuguese team and Adrien is inconsequent in the last third of the pitch. It's no wonder Portugal always upped the level when Quaresma and Sanches came into the midfield. yeah it's freaking terrible. Ronaldo and Nani just don't play like a traditional tandem at all, the Nani goal against Hungary was the only time they found each other I think. Ronaldo's tendency to drift inside or in scoring positions means little width too. I was looking at the movement of Ronaldo and Nani most of the time and their runs also created very little space for midfield runs too, instead you have Andre Gomes or Joao Mario drift to side which I don't think is what you want. Honestly in this kind of a 4-4-2 you just need a traditional striker I feel, someone who is willing to make runs for space and width or just stop with the 4-4-2 and play 4-3-3 with Quaresma which is just endlessly better.
Yeah, 4 3 3 with Quaresma sounds like a better idea but then they also need to dump the stodgy playstyle.

Yeah that too Rebs. At least till the finals they should play a positive playstyle, they certainly have the ability.

Well Portugal out of all teams has learned that pretty playstyle doesnt win you titles. Pretty sure 2004 still hurts them a ton.

Damn that team was so good. The whole world outside hurts from that lol.
Portugal Czech was my dream final. The game vs the Dutch in the groupstages was probably the best EC game in this century.

France had rest of a whole week, I expect them to go full throttle from the beginning. Ireland is not to strong defensively if you remember Belgium game.
