4 groups of 5, 2 advance from each group. Lose 4 worst teams, no one cares, and make teams play ftw.
Also, slightly longer group stage is great (it's usually the best phase since there are 3 games every day).

Obviously the format is far from perfect but I was never as interested in EUROs as in WCs because of the format - so change is good, guys.

Why can't we just have bigger group stages (bigger groups)? Four 6 team groups where 1st and 2nd place advance. Would give us 8 teams again. I am all for bigger group stage and smaller knockout

Today the knockout stage starts.

Switzerland should lose to Poland, however it's not that clear.
Wales vs Northern Ireland anything is possible again, but Wales should win, be it on regular time, over time or penalties. Hoping for Will Grigg's crew though.
Croatia vs Portugal is my favourite match. Considering how I dislike the likes of Ronaldo and Pepe gooo Croatia! Croatia definitely played better in group stage and I hope that continues.

will win. Mostly the easy choice. Lost my faith in Belgium, they almost lost from Sweden. England going to lose to Iceland like Austria unless they manage their chances better.

Last 16!

Switzerland vs Poland is first up and this could be a close fiery game. Both teams showed some flair in their group games but also a bit of a poor performance too. Poland struggled on matchday 3 in beating already eliminated Ukraine 1-0. Where as Switzerland looked good vs Albania in the first 20 minutes to then show alot of defensive frailties through out the rest of their games. However with the swiss they do look pretty useful going forward with pace ontop of quick passing. Should be a good tie.
