TL needs to come out with a troll filter for people who just keep creating new accounts to dodge bans. Basically the way it works is the troll can post as normal but no one else except himself can see his posts or even know of his existence. If the troll doesn't know he's banned he won't create new accounts and will happily continue posting until he figures it out; at which point everyone enjoys a good laugh.

Relax. If you don't like being called mid-skill then respond in a reasonable fashion. Telling him what your DotA rank is or whatever is equivalent to your ladder rank in SC2 is reasonable. Calling him a "Racist candyass" is not reasonable.

It's called a hellban on other sites too, and to answer a question above - except it wouldn't work, same problem as an IP ban. - It wouldn't have the problem of changing IPs, it would detect the user logged in.
Also p4NDemik, if you ever decide to hellban (which I am in favor of) you should make sure that it doesn't appear to the banee in the ABL.

When we see in the ABL that he's hellbanned we might laugh at the sure-to-come realization. Either way hellbans are both good punishment, get rid of PBUs (At least until they realize) and give everybody a laugh, so I don't see a problem with doing them.

On Hellbans
Correct me if I'm wrong but I still view an IP and a Hell ban as one in the same albeit with different methods. While blocking an IP address completely and putting a person in a very real forum purgatory are extremely different the end results conclude identically. I am IP/Hellbanned. I make a new account or keep posting. I realize I cannot make a new account OR I realize no one has ever responded to a thread I've opened or a post I've made.
Therefore I make a new account with a new IP. The process repeats until I am tired and accept the futility and rationalize my victory over whatever.
So yeah, hellbans are a cute idea but unless someone can look me .. can't really look me in the eye..
Unless someone can say that a person who is never responded to will not simply make a new account after a period of time on a new IP address, just as an IP ban would- I see no purpose in burdening the staff with a seemingly complex and intensive process.
Oh sure it would be hilarious. Can't deny that. I just feel like raining cold miserable sobriety today. Blame it on Tasteless clones stealing my ladder points.
Post script: I think it's a curious method and I would like to read a bit of discussion on it!
