I definitely felt he was the most combative poster in the thread and was the one starting a lot of the crusades. If you explained Germany's actions and didn't shit talk them for not immediately sending more aid when Ukraine asked for it, he basically labeled you a Russian apologist. If you happened to post info he disagreed with, you were siding with the Russians and intentionally regurgitating pro-Russian propaganda. And then he played the victim when people stood up to his bully tactics. He thought his point of view was the only acceptable point of view. At least, that's how I felt reading his posts. | ||

As someone who tried to deal with him multiple times, I very much agree with your impression of him. If he had not been on the side of the good guys, I am sure he would have been warned much earlier. Classic Ghanburighan behaviour apart from what you already mentioned included trying to divert attention away when no longer being able to maintain an argument, especially when sources that contradict him get posted. I repeatedly had to call him out on this to even get him to acknowledge that I posted a source, at which point he usually tried to throw up a diversion. Mistakes done by others got framed as lying, and in general he showed 0 charitably to anyone that he disagreed with and could not shout down. On 2 or 3 occasions he scurried away after having met strong resistance from a number of other posters, only to try to get back at the german forum users by trying to dig up some incriminating story about germany, usually together with some direct provocation directed at german posters. Fun fact, despite him repeatedly pretending to be a victim of german dogpiling, the instances he made that claim included a number of posters that are not from germany, but it is a behaviour perfectly in line with his strategy of trying to divert attention away from the argument he was badly losing. Unfortunately, searching through his posts seems to be a bit difficult now, so I can't bring up my favourite example of this where he 'linked' an article about shortcomings of the german intelligence service. The article was legit, but he did not link to it, rather he linked a tweet that responded to the tweet mentioning the article. The tweet he directly linked made some inflammatory speculations that were in no way backed up by the article in the tweet he responded to. Fortunately at that point people already were well aware of his exploits and just ignored it. I also liked the post where he tried to justify being an ass to everyone all the time, citing lack of time despite being one of the most active posters in the thread. In conclusion, all he would have had to do, is not being hostile to everyone that does not share his opinion. I think the fact that he chose to self immolate rather than reflect on his behaviour speaks louder than any of the further accusations you could lob at him. | ||

I only started telling him directly to stop it because it was getting worse and I am not in the business of enabling bullies. Plus I was hoping that if called out on it, some mod would notice the pattern and give him an official warning, which then should have caused him to change his behaviour. Well, we all saw how that would have went. I have 0 doubt that asking him in PMs would have led to no results either. And this was not some classic tid for tad, he did not give people the benefit of the doubt right from the start. As far as I am concerned, the hostility and escalation came from him in the vast majority of cases. He does not get to claim he was being mean to people because they were mean first, people just started catching up to him in terms of behaviour. His behaviour was toxic to any kind of discourse and without exaggeration it was the worst exchange I ever had on TL that did not end with the other person getting a warning or even a ban. I was very disappointed that it took this long for him to get a formal warning. He did get told by some mods to cut it out in posts btw, to which he usually also replied in the same manner as he did with posts that disagree: deflect, divert, ignore. There is no shot a PM would have helped with a guy that thinks there is nothing wrong when half the thread is arguing against him, when there are sources that directly contradict him, when even neutral parties speak out against his conduct... Some of his posts will be missed, his way of 'arguing' and general behaviour not so much. It was a warning that came too late and had a much bigger impact than desired, but I gladly take this over having to deal with his attitude any longer. I was close to no longer reading that thread because of him, the warning and his overreaction to it therefore came pretty much in the nick of time. | ||

On getting a warning, and having the reason for said warning being clarified as being cumulative rather than about one particular post his/her response was to flounce out and nuke their account. Shame but hey, is what it is. Could have been just as informative and interesting to read without bashing Germany every other post and engaging in pretty bad faith arguments with folks who took them to task. | ||
