That account was created on 2011-06-10 02:49:02 and had 5705 posts. Reason: You have one of the worst mod and posting histories on TL still alive. You're on a short leash, so be more careful with your choice of words. I'm not sure if Capped listened to his advice. I guess he still has the plausible deniability of saying he meant that lichter is literally worse than Franz Beckenbauer at football.

I read it as Lichter is worse then Kai Hansen which if we're talking about guitar playing ability I'd have to agree with

With all that data, I'm sure we can pretty accurately predict which posters will be actioned soon again, and even which will be permed soon. This, of course, leads to a minority report-type of TL moderation, where people get permed for things they haven't done yet if it is very likely that they'll get permed judging from their moderation history. Which of course is highly desirable, as we actually prevents bannable posts rather than just punish them. Tell Rich to get onto it.

It'd be interesting to see how long a poster stays unwarned/untemp-banned/unbanned after returning from a tempban (of various length). How does that change when the poster is coming back from the second tempban? How does the distribution depend on post count and time since account creation? [12:15] @R1CH: i optimized the shit out of TL over the last few months [12:15] @R1CH: without it im sure the flood of beta shit would be like how TL was during TSL 1 casts [12:15] @R1CH: i almost want to undo it [12:15] @R1CH: just so people stop flooding stupid shit [12:16] @R1CH: we really need to implement that posts per day for new users thing [12:16] @The-Winner: or a bot which bans shitty posters [12:17] @R1CH: i tried that [12:17] @R1CH: it classified everyone as a shitty poster [12:17] @R1CH: its like santa from futurama from the R1CH quotes thread.

Or, if it turns out that the recurrence rate of bans is very high, someone could take a hint that the banning system is not very effective in accomplishing ... anything? Amusingly, it may turn out to be not very different from the penal system which also gloriously fails in stopping people from doing bad things again. Sure, mods can continue banning people because "they deserve it", but maybe having hard data showing that the only thing it serves is their personal needs could make them less smug about it?

Sure, mods can continue banning people because "they deserve it", but maybe having hard data showing that the only thing it serves is their personal needs could make them less smug about it? You are probably correct that modding actions rarely improves the poster. However the main effect is probably as a deterrent on other posters. People see that if you post to much crap you get banned and shamed, which can be a strong deterrent for many posters. Also, if shit posters were to roam free, the forum would be full of crap (even more so than now) and set the norm for others and drown out good posts. C So all in all, it's not as a cure for the poster I think (it probably isn't as you say), rather setting an example, and keeping the forum clean, leaving space for good posts. Why not perm straight away then? A) they may become good posters still. B) general fairness. C) we'd run out of posters.
