Women who get raped after consuming alcohol, wearing revealing clothing or being sexually active are not comparable to people who go to a criminal loan shark, refuse to pay them back and then insult the guy. Suggesting that the two actions are comparable, along with the implication that men are not expected to hold themselves to any standard beyond that of the criminal loan shark, is part of standard rape apologism. Fortunately, even if I just banned him on a whim by his own logic the ban is justified. Apparently anyone can assign provocation to anything anyone else does and then do what they like and blame the victim.

A lot of the banned posts and even not banned posts pretty much go, "If you are female and you interact with gamers, you are asking for sexist insults to be thrown your way." Fortunately, even if I just banned him on a whim by his own logic the ban is justified. Apparently anyone can assign provocation to anything anyone else does and then do what they like and blame the victim.

by the way, "blaming" the victim is not only a permissible legal strategy (with some caveats of course), it is a well documented and used strategy in rape trials. i wonder how many judges and lawyers you would ban from the the oh so sacred teamliquid general forum for agreeing that the victim should be assigned responsibility.
before the knee-pads come out, i agree with you that his opinion is shitty, but i also think your banning him for it is shitty considering his other posts in the thread were not bad (although i wont say i agree with him) and the banned post really wasnt that bad.

Judges and lawyers aren't some special moral group that are better than the rest of us, I have no doubt there are plenty of them with disgusting opinions that won't be tolerated on tl. You're right, I could explain why he was wrong rather than ban him. But I can also explain why he is wrong and ban him and that way we have less rape apologism on the forum. I see that as a worthy end and therefore disagree that I have accomplished very little.

i was referring not to the fact that they hold disgusting opinions, which is undoubtedly true as to some, but that they recognize the legal legitimacy of "blaming" the victim. something you appear to have zero tolerance for despite the legitimacy it holds in society at least as to legal matters.
keep with your narrow view of the world though where you choose to ban instead of addressing opinions you dont agree with. i am sure it will work out well for you in the end.

Juries are fucking retarded because the general population are fucking retarded. The fact that a jury can be convinced that a woman deserved it because she was a slut or that a black guy did it because let's face it, they're all the same, does not make the arguments good ones.

Legal legitimacy is a pretty low bar considering that defense lawyers have a legal obligation to throw the kitchen sink at jurors. These sound like the arguments of overburdened public defenders just going through the motions. Sometimes it sticks, but non-retarded jurors just roll their eyes.
