There's a reason why I PAID for the access to watch the VODs after the event has already happened. It's because they're airing in a time zone where I can't possibly catch them awake. If there was a sports event that I missed, I sure as hell wouldn't pay to go back and find the video and watch it again. I could also catch it live if I wanted to as it happened since it's airing in the same time zone as myself... Up to date coverage for MLG, IEM, IPL or any other events like that I have no problem with at all and I don't think many other people have ever voiced concerns about them... being that if you wanted to you could watch them as they're airing. I just think an exception should be made for important matches in the GSL, which should be spoiler'ed by default. TLDR: This is pretty much a big FU to everyone who actually subscribes to GSL for the VODs. But this isn't an event that's held in your time zone or even close to it. You're thinking of this situation too locally. Would a football fan complain to ESPN/TSN because they put the World Cup results on the front page even though it was held on the other side of the world? No, because they should know better than to visit ESPN/TSN if they didn't want to be spoiled. TL has already given people the option to keep spoilers hidden but that's just a feature most people seem to forget.

TL admins, how about making a page like www.teamliquid.net/nospoiler which would basically be the mainpage with an automatic "no spoiler" setting (and maybe also has all forums on the left side closed)? Should not be too much of a deal to make that.

The goal isn't to drive away traffic and users from your website, it's to make people want to go to it. There needs to be a way for people to avoid spoilers by default. I'd really like to know why the admins decided to make it opt-out and not opt-in since you hurt a lot of people who don't want spoilers by making them opt-out (and often it's not possible to do so ahead of time on public machines), but don't hurt anyone who does want them by making them opt-in. There's a similar issue with the thread titles since the entire sidebar is expanded by default, but that strikes me as less of an issue than a the in-your-face news articles on the home page.

I understand TL wants to move towards being a more serious news site, but I do think SC2 is a little different. Most people aren't even able to watch say GSL live but have to on VODs. It's not like the superbowl. P.S. Yes I am aware you can hide spoilers.

Teamliquid, please change your GSL spoiler policy; at least take a Poll and ask the community what they think for once? Might I suggest : "Click here to see last nights GSL results" on the home page , instead of blasphemy like NANIWA: Haters Gonna Hate. Now I immediately know that the only foreigner who I cared to watch, was spoiled because you wanted a "catchy" title that sounds like a bad rap song. Nobody watches the GSL at 2am. How can you consider this a live event on par with ESPN when the majority of the fans and your staff don't watch it until the next day. I am a working individual and I can not watch it at 2am. Neither can anyone with a steady job. That is like having a private football game, where the ONLY way we can watch the event, is AFTER you spoil it for us JUST so you can get some bonus points for having a catchy title-- Haters gonna hate.

However I agree, the spoiler-free version of TL should be default, and you opt-in to spoilered TL. Keep the rest of the spoiler policy how it used to be for SC2 and how it currently is for BW

+ Show Spoiler [Spoiler Process] + Are you really convinced that the community doesn't want to be able to even see the directions on how to turn spoilers off, so that you must hide them? Teamliquid, why do you feel obligated to spoil the results of all the tournaments, Just so you can consider yourself a LIVE coverage website. I urge you to consider your community for once. Watching starcraft LIVE is a privilege. It is in no way similar to any other sports period. All major sports are televised nationally and on the radio, and catered to the working class individual so that it starts at a decent time/on the weekend. I need to be privileged to have my computer and a decent internet connection to watch Starcraft. I can't watch it at work because most of the events ( even the NA ones) occur during the day. So I choose to watch Starcraft on my own time. Teamliquid, you are hurting Esports. I hope you are not offended by my posts, I only seek a better solution for the community. I tried to show starcraft to my real life friend, and he said he only likes watching it if its live. I truly believe that Esports will grow at a much faster pace, if we consider how important the suspense of watching the games is without spoilers for any events. Just to make myself clear, sometimes when I download the Vods, I notice the third one is only 3 mb. I immediatly know the third match is empty, and the winner of the first match wins the second. I can't help but make that correlation inside my head. Anything we can do to make the games more suspenseful, considering that most of the community is unable to watch live events, will dramatically increase the popularity behind Esports.

I urge you to consider your community for once This is a little persumptous. The live coverage change was considering the community. Just not the minority that prefers spoiler free watching and for that there is Hide Spoilers. I don't think it's ruining esports given how many people were/are in favour of this. Here was the thread with a corresponding poll + Show Spoiler + On October 13 2011 00:43 drcatellino wrote: In regular sports, when a team wins an important championship, you go to fan/league website to see a huge image in the main page with the people from the team, all happy, smiling and holding the trophy in the air. And then you have a catchy title that says “ Jamaican curling team does it ! Miracle victory”. This create hype, excitement, and make the whole curling/Jamaican community feel like that this is the ONE important news that everyone attention is directed to at the moment. After IPL3 finals, when you arrived at TL website you saw... nothing. It’s basically like if the event just didn’t happen, or if the outcome wasn’t interesting enough to publicize it in the main page. I know the reasons behind this are SPOILERS, as this community is spread into differents timezones and some people might want to watch the finals later on and still visit TL without being spoiled. I completely understand these reasons, but I think they are detrimental to the growth of E-sports (lol). Part of why people love sports is the story-telling part of it. Even if you watched a hockey game and know exactly what happened, you still like to read about it in newspapers later on, to see pictures of players at the emotion-peak of the game. This help establish a connection between the audience and the sport. No, gaming is not a dating show, but it is important to show the “human” aspect of it. Yes, I wanted a huge picture of + Show Spoiler + Stephano Imagine if the night of the finals from the Stanley cup finals (hockey), you went to nhl.com, only to see a random bunch of stats, and to know what was going on in the game you had to had to reach the forums, go to some obscure thread, all of this just in case someone from another timezone would have been pissed if the results were updated live in the front page. If you are a hockey fan and a frequent user of the site maybe you wouln’t mind at all, but if you tried to get interested in the hockey scene and couln’t find the results/wrap-up straight on the main page, you would have been disoriented and just went back to watching curling instead. “But I don’t want to be spoiled !” First, are spoilers that big of a deal? How many of you watch a game from an important tournament later on without checking the results before-hand? I know the first thing I do in the morning after a big night of GSL, I check the results and if I have time I’ll watch the games, knowing the results beforehand won’t change my excitement about it. I know that there is still a small amount of TLers that really don’t want to be spoiled at all, I can respect this, but maybe an alternate spoiler-less TL gateway should be created, which would give links to tournament without spoiling anything. But this should not be the main page. If you don’t want to be spoiled, you should not go to TL main page anyway (in my dream-like super Esports friendly TL main page). I don’t think that every tournament results should be posted on the main page at the minute it’s done, be it should be the importants finals. Do we really want to have an anticlimactic homepage just to please the 5% spoilers-freaks people ? Tl;dr: Most sports websites are instantly updated with headlines of the big events, this helps create a connection between the crowd and the sport, mostly for the casual viewers. This connection is absent with Teamliquid and the SC2 community because of the “spoiler fear”. TL mainpage should be updated with headlines results of the big events and a spoiler-free gateway could be created for the spoilers freaks. Poll: Do think live tournament results on TL frontpage is a good idea ? Yes (4507) No (386) Yes, but only if TL add a spoilerfree VOD page that is easily accessible. (364) 5257 total votes Your vote: Do think live tournament results on TL frontpage is a good idea ? (Vote): Yes EDIT: added some fine folks point of view. Klogon + Show Spoiler + I go to my TV to watch football or my DVR recorded soccer games. I go to ESPN.com for sports news. I go to TL.net to watch SC2 live or find links to VODs. I go to TL.net for esports news. -- Now throw in the fact that we are an international site with many timezones and schedules. Is the difference clear enough there? As the hub for both the viewing experience and the news, the only way we can accommodate both is if we keep the front page spoiler free for at least some time. As far as spoilers go? Yes, they are a big deal. If you spoil something for me somewhere where you were not supposed to, I would probably ban you. I am the type of person who does not watch trailers for movies because it spoils 2 minutes of the movie for me. Some people care a lot and it detracts from the viewing experience. I'd even go as far as to say spoilering the results ahead of time would be hurting esports more by not allowing the delayed viewers the same epic experience as the live viewers. And no, this is not hurting ESPORTS. Liquid'Tyler + Show Spoiler + I agree with the OP. I'm against censoring open discussion of results for the sake of a few odd people who are "victims" of spoilers. Their habits are weird enough for the rest of us to not care about them and they are obviously the minority. If they want a web site where results aren't openly discussed, they should make their own little niche web site and leave this one alone. Note that it's not even close. Perhaps the hide spoilers button could be a little more prominent. Especially because if it were the other way around and spoilered tourney was default, I would want people to know that TL is actually updating the results live. It would be quite easy to miss if one followed TL casually.

I sincerely think the best solution to make everybody happy would be to "Click here for the results from last nights GSL" on the homepage instead of Naniwa- Haters Gonna Hate ! Perhaps this could be done just for the GSL, since most subscribers don't even have access to the VODS untill after the results are posted. Verlas, I doubt the reason they wanted to move to a spoilered news section was so they could use fancy titles in their news...lol I actually think that's a big reason why they did it. "We want fans to come to our site and see a player holding a trophy with an appropriate headline" . I really like Klogons point of view : I go to my TV to watch football or my DVR recorded soccer games. I go to ESPN.com for sports news. I go to TL.net to watch SC2 live or find links to VODs. I go to TL.net for esports news. I see where you guys are coming from, you're a news website. Perhaps I need to figure out a direct link to the stream list without news, because that is what I use your site for most. I am actually really surprised by how one sided that poll went. I wonder if the results would be different if it was more specific to the GSL.
