Glad to see the NEEDS REVIEW section added, I've been wanting to help out the community lately but I doubt I could make it as a writer for TL so I'll be looking over replays in this thread. Any tips besides the obvious?
Production Maphack: For example, If I watch a ZvT and I see the zerg players gearing up for a baneling bust. Terran never scouts the Zerg or scans but still puts up 2 bunkers and thickens his wall with barracks for no reason.
Blantant Maphack: Stares into FOW and blindly counters what other player does. Sometimes even looking at weird pylons around the map or hidden DT tech without scouting.
With maphack is the player able to blink/warp up into someones base without a spotter or pick of structures from the low ground?
What other types of hacks are there?

What other types of hacks are there? I know for a fact you can nydus without vision, but blink/warp up im not 100% sure..
eitherway nydus/blink without vision = def maphack

What other types of hacks are there? Download a couple of the CONFIRMED replays, watch those. Check my descriptions with the TL Antihack account and it will show you why I am considering players hacker - remember, if I'm wrong I'm wrong, and tell me. :p
edit: My replies to the report are more detailed than what's in the OP, I don't want to clutter the OP up with huge paragraphs of why/how this guy maphacked.
Maphacks is usually always staring through fog of war, but sometimes they'll hide it very well and only use the minimap to predict army movements and pushes, much like that PvP replay on Metal, IIRC. He never used the FOW, really. Just used his minimap to predict army movements / drops.
Production tab hack is a little tough for us to consider, the ZvZ with Antihack or whatever his name was (going off memory here!) watch that one, that's a replay that one could say "Production tab hack obviously" because one zerg player like...6 pools and he 9 pools "for no reason" ....well ZvZ 6pool all-in is not uncommon on ladder so some players just play safe for no reason. I initially thought this might have been a production tab hack but Arb and I bounced ideas back and forth and eventually agreed that it was just safe play and not a hack at all.
I'm sure there's plenty of other hacks out there, but to be honest the maphacks are going to be 90% of what we get here in this thread. Maybe drophacks but unless the guy is like PiLLage and 70-0 in Masters we can't just prove it was a Bnet hiccup or bad internet or whatever.

Watched this one. He is either a bad player with a maphack or a bad player with weird patterns of doing things.
1:16 - Does look like he looks at your base even before his overlord gets to where the close air position CC would be.
3:04 - Looks at your wall but for some reason still a-moves behind it making his lings path to the left near the natural.
4:00 - You tip him off that you think he is maphacking, so from now on it seems like he only tries watching his mini-map.
5:30 - Your army shoots at lings on the bottom of your ramp, he doesn't even pull them back and lets them all die. Since he has no protection, he has to throw down spines as a last resort.
5:55 - Seems like he looks at your army pass, but then he pokes lings up your ramp, hoping you might turn around
11:14 - Seems like he had god-like reaction time moving his zerglings from getting shot by siege tanks. In the same moment he sees your first tank, he moves his zerglings away.
My questions: Why didn't he leave the game sooner if he actually saw your expansion and tanks if he was on 1 base still? Does he stop blatantly FOW watching because you tip him off that you think something is fishy?
I would say it is plausible that he is hacking, but it is so inconsistent and weird that even with a maphack he doesn't react 100% of the time to your army and what you are doing.
Also, if you actually have a hunch someone is maphacking, don't tell them and do something crazy and off the wall. Put down 2 port banshee, or proxy like 5 racks and see what they do in the replay (it would also make watching and confirming the hacker a ton easier). Hope my first review wasn't too bad. I lurked the old Hacker thread to watch replays but never actually put down my thoughts on them.

I watched it, even before 7 min he was suspicious. At one point before he even scouted he looks through FOW, then scouted with his first SCV. When it dies, he just has a jolly good time looking at your base through the FOW. Looks at your hidden 3rd through the FOW before doing his hellion drop. Then every 1-2 min he has a joyride around your base through the FOW. I think this is easily confirmed.

He is in bronze still, and without a replay of it lagging games out I don't think TL can add to the confirmed. Even with a replay, it is hard to confirm lag issues as hacking. I would still report it to blizzard, but I don't think TL will add it to the list of known hackers.

No lagging out, instant game crash after 7 secs. Hence no replay.
Some googling of "drop hack sc2" seems to indicate that this is how the most usual drop hacks works..
I've already reported it to blizzard. Have absolutely no idea why laddering without playing seems like a fun thing to do to some people... maphackers are easier to understand, in some way.

Check the replay, his overlord doesn't actually see the CC at close air positions before he looks at that guys base. Either way it still is a 33% chance and the rest of the replay is suspicious as hell. I don't think it is confirmed or denied yet, so don't throw out the replay because this guy was angry at the time he posted.

DrugDealer Map Hacker (another replay from different player)
Alphonsse Hey, I saw your post about drugdealer being a maphacker and then realized I had played him on ladder today. Went back and watched the replay and sure enough he was very blatantly hacking. He also complained about toss in the beginning, which is pretty funny. I got lucky in that he tried to counter my +1 6gate with roach/speedling lol. I would say it is maphack, he never scouts and keeps looking at your base over and over at the beginning. Unless he was just going to that base with the 6 pool no matter what, I would say he is up to something fishy.

Let's just put a stop to this now... stop calling people idiots/dumb/whatever. That's not the point of this thread.
If you want to prove me wrong, prove me wrong.
Acceptable: "He definitely was far enough in the base to see there was no CC when he looked over at the other base. I think he just went to the next logical base with his early lings."
NOT ACCEPTABLE: "Wow, Torenhire, you're a moron. Did you even watch the replay? Anyone who isn't dumb would check close ground after scouting close air."
Don't come in here bashing. Come in here to prove or disprove a point like you would in any other thread. You're still going to get into trouble with the mods by blatantly being condescending or outright rude to people. Are hackers frustrating? Yes. Does that mean you should take out your frustrations on us when we are unsure of a hack or not? No.
|
Torenhire I like the politeness of your rebuff there but at the same time I can understand the frustration of the person you are quoting. The player drky wasn't exactly well mannered himself, and from his perspective in game there was absolutely no call to jump to accusations of map hacking and just plain rudeness.
All of the zergs decisions could have a reasonable logical basis. The lings just attacking the closest of the two un-scouted positions first; note that even if the ovi didn't see the actual CC location he might just be a bad player and THOUGHT he had spotted it (his stats aren't exactly crash hot in timing or eco management). The spine crawlers seem in response to seeing the marines and having no real army. Even most of the camera stuff isn't that out of the ordinary, as he doesn't linger in any strange places for long enough time periods; and when he does it's to move. Not to mention the ling pathing issue and a similar ling positioning mistakes when the rines attack.
I think drky just played a bad player personally, and even if you suspect someone of hacking that's no excuse to start being accusatory or just plain rude in game. If you suspect hacking then do something to bait a hacker, watch the replay and find some evidence.
I have to admit I empathise with ODKStevez as drky was very hasty with his accusations, and not very well mannered about it. Similarly he seems to have gotten it into his head that this player is "100%" hacking and not taking in all the evidence that suggests the player wasn't. Although idiot probably wasn't necessary...

I have a question and I will put up the replay later I guess. I've only watched part of the replay and I'm not sure. I was playing a ZvP on Scrap Station. It doesn't seem like he looks at my base out of fog of war, but there is a moment early on in the game where I place a pylon at his natural. He has no units even close, but the exact moment I put down my pylon he looks at it through the fog (best evidence I have so far really). But during the game is where I felt the abuse, maybe I was just unlucky (or he was lucky), but everytime I move my stalkers out of my base his mutas move in, without any scouting, I even call him out at one point because I had been just sitting in my base for like a min, attacks stop, I move my workers back (to re saturate the main) and move my stalkers out at the same time. Instantly he comes in and starts working on them.
I say "WTF Hacker." and get no response from him for the rest of the game. I guess I need to look at the replay better (stopped watching towards the end because I felt like I couldn't tell either way). But the fact that it looks like he watched me drop my pylon at 3:30 in the game without any vision bothers me, he didn't send any units over to it, he even did the most retarded scouting pattern of the inside of his base afterwards (why the fuck would I proxy a zerg at 3:30 on scrap station).
Anyways I wouldn't care but I felt like it was a little fishy (especially in game his timings and where he decided to go (and not go) with his mutas felt redic at the time), him not defending himself at all(when I called him a hacker, not even a "lolz no"), and supposedly looking through the fog at my pylon. Seem worth investigating?

Host the replay on a site and post it up, it can't hurt.
