Religion threads are banned on TL. Further derailment will be met with immediate permanent bans. |

Make a separate post about evolution vs. creationism in the general section and cross-link it. There's no reason to completely derail this thread, it's already taken up three pages.

Hey! I'd love it if you took your horrific attitude to PM! There I can entertain your shitty condescending posting privately!
Religious debate does NOT equal "criticism" wtf even someone like you isn't dumb enough to argue otherwise?

When do we actually find out if Anna made it through the voting round? After weds coming up <3 for votes btw Lol why did I read that as "After wedding coming up"
Anyways I guess I should do the 10 votes

when is the actual miss America pageant?
|
I wish Anna best of luck!
I understand people are passionate about their beliefs, but I think religion shouldn't have an influence on the Miss USA pageant, so I hope this thread can continue without the relgious debate.

Basically.
You are kind of expected to give those types of answers if you want to have a shot at winning beauty pageants. I disagree with it too, but there are more tactful ways to speak out against ID than here. I wish Anna all the best, and voted for her, not because of her beliefs, but because of her actions to support TL and the ESPORTS scene.

I've stated before this isn't an attack on religion (creationism isn't integral to most religions and most mainstream christians/muslims/hindus etc accept that it isn't true) but as you wish, i will take this to pms.

Hey I'd just love to see her win,if nothing else, just so she could be like:"Thank you to team liquid!" and everyone would be like clueless at what the fuck she just said.
|
She has to be as politically correct as possible. They didn't want her to put "I enjoy video games" in her biography for fucks sake, so I'm not sure why you guys are so outraged. I'm an Atheist and highly value teaching kids science, but its just a beauty pageant.
|
Good luck Anna! I put in a vote for you, and I really hope to see you take it all. You do great things for the E-Sports community, no matter what anyone has to say.
Ignore all the negative Nancy's and keep up everything that you do!
Edit : I wish I had the money to fly out to Vegas to meet you Incontrol, hopefully I will be able to meet you at MLG Orlando if you are there.

Sure, even if you "believe" in evolution, giving some opportunist answer in an interview in order to get as much votes from all kinds of people as possible, that can be critizised but its at least understandable. But actually believing in creationism not only can be critizised but for many people its plain not understandable.
Edit: Also, Im kind of fed up with all the threads where any sort of criticism should be taken elsewhere. Why dont we have two threads for everything, one for positive, encouraging comments and one for criticism? I mean honestly, I thought threads are for discussion of the topic. And criticizing someone for a personal belief when the topic is about voting for him/her in a popularity contest is pretty much on topic for me. Sure, no need to turn this into a general debate of evolution against creationism, but discussing the personality of a contestant in a thread like this can not seriously be considered off topic. Critizising her for believing in creationism is exactly the same thing as when you write "She is awesome, she likes gaming!!". I didnt see anybody complain about comments like these...

Just a curious question: How big is Miss USA compared to how big it was 10-20 years ago?
In Sweden our Miss Sweden as well as the Miss Universe competitions were quite big and shown on TV in the 90s but have in the later years fallen into oblivion.
GL to Anna in the competition.

I'll be voting for anna good luck you guys. If I wanted to discredit someone based on their beliefs I'm sure that pretty much all the contestants are not going to speak favorably of evolution and doing so would be social suicide. I don't believe in any of that stuff but from a contestants standpoint she picked the choice that alienated the least amount of people.
|
But why should it be social suicide? Your beliefs are your own, and there are just as many pro-ID zealots as there are pro-evolution ones! I'd much rather vote for someone who stuck to her guns than one who tried to please everyone (and failed, apparently).

I agree that criticism on beliefs belongs here, but explaining evolution and what a scientific theory is to people who are too lazy to visit wikipedia can easily be done somewhere else.

100% agree with diehilde. Incontrol nobody wants to do any bad for you or Anna, but this is about voting for her based upon as many information as one can get. And religion is a pretty hot topic and if the person I shall vote for gives an answer that at least disturbs me, I have two options. Keep my concerns for myself and just dont vote for her, or speak out and try to get more background information to help with my decision. I prefer the 2nd method and this thread is the best way to share my thoughts. Anna could have chosen not to answer because religion is a private matter, but she spoke. Now she has to deal with the reactions.
