Hi everyone! Please join us next Friday for ESPORTS!!!
WHAT: Stay up late and watch the finals of the GSL World Championship Seoul with a whole bunch of local Starcraft fans!! Then, if you want, stay to LAN =) I'll remember to bring my Kinect for Dance Central this time...
HOW MUCH: In the spirit of GOMtv, who is offering the World Championship Seoul free of charge to viewers, this Finals Party will also be free of charge. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage all who are willing and able to donate to Japan. (To be clear, donations are not a prerequisite to attending the event!) If you would like an easy way to donate, you may choose to use SCCharity's FirstGiving page, which you can click to via http://www.sccharity.org/about . Thanks for giving this a read =)
TL;DR: Free!
If you would like to play on the computers, we will offer a $20 package (which gets you a computer pass that goes from 10pm to 8am + pizza + any 1 fridge drink). All proceeds will be donated by us to Red Cross of Japan.
WHERE: Eudemonia! 2154 University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704 Store phone: 510.883.0814 Judy's #: 510.859.3681 gmaps bart map (very close to Downtown Berkeley station) Street parking only, but by 10pm it shouldn't be too hard to find. Meters stop on our street at 6pm on Friday, and start up again at 9am on Sat. morning.
WHEN: Friday, April 8, 2011. Festivities will begin at Eudemonia at 10pm. The show will come on the projector live from Korea at 11pm our time (see spoiler). + Show Spoiler + And we'll stay as long as people want to =) Last time, there were 2 of us that stayed all the way into the afternoon on Saturday, to watch the first day of the TSL!!! =D
WTF IS A EUDEMONIA?! It's a LAN store + Magic center + board game retail store. So if you want to LAN, you don't need to BYOC (in fact, we are not currently set up for BYOC). You may bring your own keyboard/mouse/mousepad/headset if you choose, but you don't have to. http://www.playxp.com/sc2/news/view.php?article_id=2686775 That's a picture of Eudemonia! ;D
Any questions? Post here or PM me or call me whenever (srsly whenever, I don't sleep at night).

It's ok . . . I don't really sleep period. I prefer taking a lot of naps randomly throughout the day.
Let's all hope for an epic MVP vs MC series.
|
Hope you guys keep this up, I'm heading to UC Berkeley this fall will see you then
|
heh would come but my cousins are over on that weekend (including that friday...as in 2 hours before then I have dinner with them ><) so can't come, hopefully I'll be able to go for the next one T_T
|
I probably will go, I foresee MC vs IMMVP. PvP would be lol 4 gate fest... cmon exiting series.
|
Hopefully I can make it. I must have walked past this place hundreds of times when I lived in Berkeley... I live on the peninsula now, but I still might roll on over if I'm not too dead after work.
|
I may come check this out. I could use another all day/night gaming binge.
|
sound like a lot of fun. I also hope you guys keep this up because I am also going to UC Berkeley this fall (got admitted to Spring but will be doing FPF so I will be at Berkeley starting late August). By the way, is there a SC2 channel for Cal students?
|
Hahah sick. I just went up for the OSP this past weekend. To be honest, wasn't hugely excited about the school cause I come from a tiny high school (~120 per grade) but we'll see. Class size was pretty overwhelming but the campus is pretty cool. If there are any current Cal students or prospective freshman shoot me a message!

I wish I didn't move out of California. I would love to attend.
I mostly talk to cows about GSL here in North Dakota...

henreiman, welcome to Berkeley =) There is a huge, flourishing Starcraft community in the sf bay area in general, and you definitely want to get in touch with the Cal CSL team.
RandomRice (Alvin) organized the Cal CSL Open several weeks ago. Here is the thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=189732
Send RandomRice a PM and ask him about Cal CSL!!
And here is unsolicited advice: henreiman, don't ever be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. Utilize the resources that Berkeley has. Go see academic counselors for advice/to get stuff, and if a counselor is a total asshole to you, go back and see another one. I made the mistake of letting shitty counselors discourage me from doing stuff and I gave up and kind of fell through the cracks. It's easy for that to happen at a huge place like Berkeley (bla bla bla competition bla bla). But use the resources (tutoring/study groups always help... go to office hours... be nice to your GSIs cuz they work hard, and they love students who work hard), and be aggressive about getting counselors to answer your questions and actually help you, and you will be fine! Also actually do your homework (I never did my homework; that doesn't cut it... really). LOL. Anyway........ good luck out there. Don't let the crazy people on Shattuck scare you (there's one really mean lady that shouts really bad words that used to scare me when I lived downtown, but I guess I'm inured to it by now).
@gloomysheep and PolarPopBear: welcome to Berkeley, too, guys! =) There should be an sc2 channel... ask Cal CSL I guess =)
Thus far, I've been popping into the Eudemonia chatroom (just "eudemonia"). We all hang out there during GSL-viewing parties. =)

Awesome advice. Go bears!

ok got a question. havent been out to eudemonia yet but heard about it from some coworkers. i live in SF and can take the BART out there easily but dont know how i'm supposed to get back (im assuming the bart will be off by the time the finals end). are there any other public transportation options to get back to SF from berkeley?
otherwise i guess as long as im stranded somewhere for a night, a LAN center isnt the worst possibility...

Brazil Cafe is soooo good GO BEARS!

Yeah, the last BART that'll get you across the bay leaves Berkeley at 12:29am. The first BART out on Saturday morning is at 6:08am. If you really want to get home via public transportation, there is always the 800 bus that runs once an hour all night. http://goo.gl/maps/xa5u for an example.... it sucks but it's a way to get home.
Don't be afraid to stay... last time there were a handful of us that stayed all night AND watched the first day of the TSL hahah.
Also.... I should really ramp up these hype threads again and take attendance/carpool info for everyone. This time was a little last-minute cuz the "season" was shorter and stuff. Hopefully next time you'll be able to find a ride.
Also yes Brazil Cafe is the best. =D

Juggling showing up with everything else I have to do, as usual.
