Congratulations to Conan "suppy" Liu for being the 1st UC Berkeley SC2 Champion! I wish him the best of luck and hope that he makes the right choice when picking colleges =P

Thank you to all our players and casters who came out! Hope you will join us next year for our next event!

Hello everybody,

The UC Berkeley Collegiate StarLeague team, partnered with justin.tv, Astro Gaming, Eudemonia, SUPERB Entertainment, Campus Cred, and the Collegiate StarLeague teams from UC Davis and Stanford, is proud to announce the 1st Annual UC Berkeley Open Tournament being held on February 26th.

When: February 26th 1PM - 11PM

Where: UC Berkeley Campus: Evans Hall Rooms 31, 35,39,41,45,47

Who's coming? HDStarcraft is coming to a live shoutcast of the tournament. Due to last minute time conflicts, HD will not be able to attend our event next week =(
We also have Moletrap and PeanutSC coming to do casting, as well as some other local amateur casters. LGPainUser, VTArlock, and EGAxslav are also planning to compete in our tournament as well. We're still looking for additional local casters/professional players around the Bay Area.
Update:2/16/2011 - Ladies and Gentlemen, EGiNcontroL is in the house (kinda, he will be casting from Los Angeles)! He will be casting our final matches!

Whats the format? This tournament will be a combination of an exhibition between rival school's CSL teams and an open tournament for players located around the Bay Area. It is a 128-player tournament with the following conditions:

*8 players from UC Berkeley CSL team will be automatically seeded (decided by team manager)

*8 players from UC Davis CSL team will be automatically seeded (decided by team manager)

*8 players from Stanford CSL team will be automatically seeded (decided by team manager)

*8 spots are reserved to be filled at the discretion of the event manager

That leaves a total of 96 open spots for anyone who wishes to attend. It's on a first come, first serve basis, so sign up now!~ Send at email with your name and handle to sc2berkeley@gmail.com Registration is now closed.

Prizes: We got sponsorship from justin.tv who agreed to feature our stream on their site. They also helped hook us up with a sponsorship from Astro Gaming for some free gear that we are giving away to our winners.
Our current prize pool (subject to change if we get more sponsors):
1st - Astro gaming headset + $250
2nd - $200
3rd - $100
4th-$50
Eliminated @ RO8: $20

This all sounds great, how much does it cost to play? The event is FREE!!! So if you think you have what it takes to take on some of the best players in the Bay Area, sign up now! Food will be sold at the event.

The RO128, RO64 and RO32 matches will be played on the weekend of February 19-21. These will be online matches, we will set up a chat channel to organize it for the weekend.
However, once the brackets are posted, you are welcome to find your opponent earlier on and play your matches. Please submit replays to sc2berkeley@gmail.com with your opponent's ID and outcome of the match.
People who have not played their qualifying matches will be dropped.

RO128,RO64, and RO32 will be BO3 with maps Xel'naga, Shakuras, and Metalopolis (in that order).

The RO16 will compete and be livecasted at UC Berkeley on February 26th.

KOTH Tournament
+ Show Spoiler +
We will be having a King of the Hill Tournament for those who got knocked out from their bracket but still want to get a chance to win some $$. Registration will be at the door. Because this is not the main event, this will be BYOC (unless you qualified to compete in main event but was knocked out early, the computers are for your usage all day).

King of the hill is pretty self-explanatory. Winner stays until knocked out. People knocked out from KOTH can reenter to compete again after there are no new, unique challengers.
Prizes:

$10 for longest streak
$10 for last king standing @ the end of the event

4v4 Side Tournament
+ Show Spoiler +
If you got eliminated early in the qualifying matches or if you've got a baller 4v4 strat, come try your luck! There will be prizes for top performing teams! Signups will be at the door, so just show up with your computer. Because this is not the main event, this will be BYOC (unless you qualified to compete in main event but was knocked out early, the computers are for your usage all day).

QUESTIONS
+ Show Spoiler +
I'm interested in doing some livecasting at your event. What should I do?
People interested in casting should send me a PM or an email at sc2berkeley@gmail.com. We currently have enough casters to handle the event but I'm sure they would appreciate rotating shifts so that they too may watch some of the games and relax (casting is hard work yo!!)

Just trying to figure out if the tournament will be spectator friendly (casting at the front with games projected on a screen, etc.), or if it's just going to be a bunch of players in a room full of computers.
The way we have the event set up, there will be 4 show rooms with a caster casting 4 different matches at once. (RO16 Group A, RO16 Group B, RO8) Semi-finals and finals will be moved to the main lecture hall room.

ALSO, we will be streaming on Justin.tv . RO64 and RO32 on Feb 19th-20th at 7pm and the main event on the 26th. Also check it out for our weekly CSL matches at 5pm PST.

Whats the tournament format? (in terms of games)
RO128, RO64 and RO32 will be BO3 with maps Xel'naga, Shakuras, and Metalopolis (in that order).
We are still finalizing the RO16 map pool/format but it will be single elimination BO3 until semi's.

Brackets are up! For the most part, the players are paired up at random, but I seperated the seeded players so that a) there would be no team kills and b)they won't face off until RO32 (the last qualifying match to determine top 16 players competing on the 26th)

drokrad, follow the instructions and email the address given. AlphaFerg, email myself at pedro@berkeley.edu or alvin at cal.csl2010@gmail.com and we can work something out. If you want to cast, then that would be fantastic. We should have multiple rooms with sound and projectors.

NOTE TO ALL: It wasn't on the original post, but we do plan on having side events. We don't have the details worked out but it will bu fun formats like 4v4, FFA, Zealot Frenzy, Star Battle, Marine Arena, for small prizes like a mousepad/t-shirt etc.

how flexible will the ro64 and ro32 schedule be? I will be traveling to 5 different states outside of california for most of february and won't be back until feb 20th. is it okay if i played my ro64 and ro32 matches on that day rather than on the 19th?

(i can also make it to the live event)

as long as we get the RO64 and RO32 done with before the final event, I see no problem with that.
