What's going on
Looks like we're going back to our roots this time A simple 32-man, double elimination tournament to turn some friendly people into mean competitors.
Tournament 4.0 Patch Notes (for people who attended the previous ones) + Show Spoiler +
Loser of the first game will always pick the next map.
Each player is allowed one map veto per match.
Maps may not be reused within a match.
Grand finals will be two sets of BO5 on Metalopolis. The winner from the loser's bracket must win both sets in order to claim first prize. The winner of the winner's bracket only needs to win one set.
Each player is responsible for their own time/account at the netcafe ($4/hour or $3/hour with membership). If you run out of time in the middle of a game, it is an automatic loss.
Players must wear their name tags during the tournament.
There will be NO walk-in sign ups. However, spectators are very much welcome.
Players will check in from 12:00PM to 12:45PM. The tournament starts at 1:00PM and all technical problems should be resolved beforehand.
No spectators are allowed in-game.
Bad manners will not be tolerated.
There are a lot of breakable doodads at the netcafe. You break it, you buy it.
Lag/Disconnect Rules
If battle.net mass disconnects before the finals, all games will be replayed by default.
If battle.net disconnects during the finals, the games will be replayed at the discretion of the hosts. A decision will be made with input from the audience.
If there is an unplayable amount of lag on your computer, pause the game and ask a host to check the state of your lag. The game may be replayed if the lag is caused by the computer. Games will NOT be replayed if the player lags because they set the graphics settings to ultra/ultra.
The first thing you do when you walk in is check-in with me! I will be holding a blue clipboard and will direct you to where you need to go. It is vital that you remember who I am because I will be the main person managing the tournament as it goes.
All players must check in with me before they start their match as well as report the results to me after the match. That way I know when a match is in progress and know when a victor has emerged. If you report results for a game that I was did not know was in progress, the results may be scrapped and the series will be replayed
There are a lot of changes between this event and the last, make sure you know what is going on
Check-in ends around 12:45pm. Make sure you are checked in with me as soon as you come in. Anyone NOT checked in with me by 12:45pm will be dropped from the tournament and replaced. Everyone on the back-up list is recommended to show up because there are always people who are late and you guys are the ones who will be replacing them. Even if you don't get spot in the tournament it is still a great place and opportunity to meet new players and make friends.
If you are unsure of something, read the rules! Only come ask me after you have consulted the rules and still need clarification. (There is nothing more annoying than a question that is already answered, read the god damn rules!)
Games will be casted and players in those games must wear noise canceling headsets that we provide. Players MUST bring their own in-ear headphones to wear with the provided headset to eliminate all spoilers of the match in progress.
Excessive BM and offensive gg'ing (gg'ing for your opponent) will result in a disqualification. No excuses, if you are reported for offensive gg'ing you will suffer the consequences.
Chat channel used will be 'Team Liquid New York' Please join that channel when you arrive at cybercraft and get on a computer, It will let us know you are at a computer, and will make it easy to PM you if we need you It also helps to make general announcements
If you are having technical issues call one of the tournament hosts over and we will try to get things up and running as soon as possible

i was watching that replay and realized that the protoss uses the exact (almost) same hotkey that I use, but plays exactly different than me, and what's so amusing about the replay i don't see any

If it's your first time and you plan on coming back at least once, it's definitely worth it to invest in a membership. it costs 20$, comes with 4 hours of play time (probably enough to cover one tournament) and will be much cheaper for future tournaments (10$/5hrs).

Yeah, one day is a lot better than two days in terms of casting. It's really hard to wake up and say "Oh lets go cast for ANOTHER 8 hours" but I love the 2 days of tournament =D

Can we not have the losers bracket start on Jungle Basin. It's not in the ladder map pool so obviously there is something broken about the map...no? And I believe you guys didn't want to do iccup maps anymore because it was difficult for people to practice it since it is not in the ladder map pool. Lets follow through with that kinda logic into individual maps in the map pool. This game constantly changes and evolves. You picked those 3 maps a month ago. I think you guys should reconsider.

I think we should default the starting maps to something like Metalopolis or Lost Temple, which is more well known and used by the general community

Loser's bracket is ridiculously slow-moving. I don't want people waiting forever, so a 2 player map with closer air positions is better.

I go to a Ballys (I drive my friend together; we go to the one near little neck on the LIE) and it's not half bad. The free weights and heaver machines are in the basement and are quite sufficient for what I do. The upper floors have the rest of the equipment and treadmills, but also has a boxing bag that I use quite frequently.
Some of the smaller Ballys may cater more towards women in terms of equipment, but it's not true for all of them.

At it's core ZvZ is compressed down to this. 15 hatch 14 pool I forgot, but 1 base muta is just a continuation from Speedling expand, or a really late transition from 1 base roach. ZvZ only progresses past the rock paper scissor mode if both players do the same thing, or the Speedling expand player doesn't decide to outright kill the 1 base roach player, and decide to tech up to kill him.
Also i covered sub 10 pools in the edit. Sometimes it works sometimes it fucken fails /shrug.

LIRR is on a schedule.
I do plan on meeting with Scham and company at times square, however the option of taking the LIRR is certainly enticing.... If we could get some super awesome coordination going we could afford to meet up and leave a little later (Or at same time) and arrive at the same time (or earlier) that we normally do

There is a train every hour around that time of day on the weekends. It goes 10:19, 11:19, 12:19. So if you miss that train its going to kind of suck. But if you guys can make the 11:19 that would be the best option.
The LIRR is $6.75 and runs at 11:19, I'm not exactly sure it's the best choice given price and inflexibility. The 7 runs like every 5 minutes at that time so, Phyrexi if you wanna join us we can do the 7 at 11:15ish and just PM me your number

One of the mainlines is down at cybercraft, meaning there is a 50% chance we wont be able to stream the event as planned. I think we can still run the big screen so spectators at the event can watch and be entertained. Theyre hoping to fix it by tomorrow morning, we'll see what happens in then
Their night tech guy will also be checking all the comps to make sure starcraft is still running properly after the patches and stuff
The usual tech guy will be here tomorrow for any technical issues so thats the good news

Today was very very exciting. Being able to look forward to seeing each other is mad chill, i like it a lot. Thanks for organizing and running the tournament btway and Certified. You guys were looking pretty exhausted and burnt out towards the middle and end, it must really take a toll on you guys to do these things. Again props, and your efforts are greatly appreciated -- the tournament ran fairly smoothly from my point of view.
And great tournament! I didn't catch most of the high profile games, but I did see an awesomely epic archon toilet, as well as an insane tvt of all-in after all-in. Good times guys.

You might have had to force it to record after reconnecting the stream every time we dropped, I dunno though how livestream works. I've only used ustream and justin.tv before... Justin.TV autorecords everything which is another reason I love it.

Well.. since a lot of people have been playing with different races, I suggest people have an off race. So in the next tournament, they have a choice of 2 races and they can avoid mirror match ups. So far, all of the cybercraft tourney's have resulted in terran's dominating the final matches. This opens can help make the tourney more interesting because a lot of people hate the mirror match ups.
I really liked the idea before with everyone having to be random. It's creative. But most of the people didn't like the idea. This is kinda like a similar idea (give everyone the opportunity to have two races and to avoid mirror match ups) Personally, I would go Zerg [main] and Protoss [offrace]. Or even Random [offrace] (since my terran is my worse).
Just an idea, cause a lot of people end up getting mirror match ups the first game and it kind of makes everyone sad if they lose their first game to a mirror match :T Even worse when they bump down into the loser bracket and they have to play another mirror match.
Don't see the purpose of having two races. Nothing wrong with mirror matches - your bound to have it happen in tourneys/ladder. It's really not that bad if you think about it - TvT for example is one of the most intricate/interesting matches imo. The other two maybe not so much but thats besides the point.
As far as recommendations for next tourney, I would say let's have it start an hour or two earlier, this way the matches should get going by noon since people tend to show up a bit later . This will save our casters some headaches and free up some time later at night to do dinner or something. I was so drained around 10pm

would rather just actually start the matches at 1pm and have people play eachother as soon as the previous match is done.
@yen: Yeah, youre right about what you said. Stuff like that will always happen. It's how a tournament should be. Just one race. I remember I got the idea from one of the TL opens, in the last round, two players agreed that they were going to go off race and they put a special note about that.
As for starting it early, I do agree. Only because some of you guys come from a far location (take 1hr+ to get home, and probably driving at night) I know yen comes from jersey and jediwen comes all the way from conneticut. And that does open up time afterwards for us to do things. Since we all practically know each other, things dont get so awkward anymore.
As for the gsl maps, theyre all 4 player maps, and im sure bt and cert picked 1player maps so the games dont drag for too long. So that could drag it out. Especially cause of the loser bracket.
@poke: Yeah, I think people should start their next match right after the previous match because it would save a lot of time. But if someone needs to go make a phone call or go to the bathroom, then a few minutes of break in between is cool.
I never had a problem starting at 1pm. I really dont mind when it starts (as long as its not past 1pm). I just dont think it should end too late.
Cybercraft needs some ventilation, thats why ppl's heads are hurting and feeling tired >:T theyre not getting enough oxygen in them, especially scham and smurf

i stopped by cybercraft today and fiddled around with the stream settings
after some testing and shit i got it to record VODs directly to the computer so now when we stream it records and saves the videos online and to the computer itself
if the stream crashes or watever the online VOD will be gone (dont kno how to fix that) but the recording will still be saved on the computer so i can copy it and upload the content on youtube or something
so for the next tournament (gonna decide on date soon) we'll have VODs for sure
