Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

over time they would have died out even if the gene was recessive right?

How important was it for you guys to have someone to talk to when you found out?

Coming out is different for everyone. I have a really cool family, and although I don't think I'm especially effeminate, none of my friends were surprised or cared. It just didn't end up being a big deal for me. For others, it's huge.

This is just an arbitrary thought that I was kinda curious about.

Let's assume that being gay is genetic.

If that is true then isn't it a "disorder"(in the reproductive sense) that is worse than having a mental illness or most other genetic diseases?

The more open people are about being gay, the faster the whole idea of being gay will be a thing of the past and in some obscure section of the history book. Simply because it's something that cannot be passed on to the next generation because of the lack of a next generation.

Before you talk about genetics, study genetics first. There's something called recessive traits.
That's not to say it's definitely genetic, it's just that such an argument is invalid. The only thing you could say is that the gene (if there is one) is not dominant

I have studied genetics, thanks for the needless flame. If you studied genetics you would know that there isn't only recessive and dominant genes. The majority of gay people will tell you that they believe their sexuality is genetic, and people are finding evidence for this constantly. Maybe you have heard of the choice vs genes controversy?

Aside from the flame. It is, reproductively, and unwanted trait which does cause the % of the trait in the population to diminish over time, recessive, dominant, co-dominant or not.

If you have studied genetics, it wasn't very well. Anyone who studies genetics seriously will know that evolution goes hand-in-hand with it (and everything else in biology) and that's where your post is flawed. I'm guessing you believe it's a choice or else it would have dwindled away by now? Well make sure to read my post because I'm starting to sound like a broken record.

Like I mentioned earlier, just because you can't directly reproduce does not mean that your genes are forever barred from the next generation--your relatives can pass on your genes for you as well. Homosexuality can be seen as an alternate mechanism to evolution (albeit less frequent) in that it adheres to kin selection. From the wikipedia entry on it: Kin selection refers to apparent strategies in evolution that favor the reproductive success of an organism's relatives, even at a cost to their own survival and/or reproduction. The classic example is a eusocial insect colony, in which sterile females act as workers to assist their mother in the production of additional offspring. Switch sterile females for voluntarily sterile brothers and mother to sisters in that last sentence and voila! The case of homosexuality makes a little more sense.

If I had to classify homosexuality, I'd say that it acts similarly to an outlaw gene in that it jeopardizes the reproduction of other genes in favour of itself. I say this because there have been studies done where they have found that female relatives of gay males tend to be more fecund than females not known to have any gay relatives. If I had to make a guess, I'd say that under the right environmental conditions, males with the gay gene have a great chance of becoming homosexual, whereas this same gene in their female relatives makes them hornier (who knows, but they tend to have more children than average). With the brother having no children of his own, he works to ensure the survival and replication of his nieces and nephews, which in turn share his genes as well. So it benefits the sister's genes, while fucking over some of the brother's genes. It would also help his brothers who may not be expressing the homosexual trait but whom have the "gene" anyway

Now the environment probably does have a bit to do with homosexuality, but I'd wager my life on their being a genetic precursor. I'd imagine that their could be some possible epigenetic factors involved or maybe even the way a certain portion of mRNA is spliced or something. Who knows, but there is something biological going on and the environmental component of it definitely wouldn't be a choice someone makes.

I'm not so sure about the genetic processes of lesbians, but it leads me to believe that their may be alternative modes of inheritance of homosexuality, be it genes themselves or other biological factors.

To Dark.Carnival and iamahydralisk:

I started actually transitioning at 28 - not excessively late in the grand scheme of things. One of the biggest issues for me has always been my voice. The earlier you start to work on your voice the better off you will be.

I can recommend a few resources to help with voice manipulation, from members of the T* community who are fairly well known like Melanie Phillips (http://heartcorps.com/journeys/voice.htm), Andrea James, and Calpernia Addams (http://www.deepstealth.com/)

I am wondering if we should take this part of the conversation to a new thread or PMs, as it is not technically "gay starcraft players" on-topic...

Wouldn't surprise me. I can look at some guy and know he is good looking or hot; but I don't go actively looking. I also love when gay guys flirt with me.

haha well maybe, but it's either that or you're very straight; usually the latter is super confident with his sexuality to the point where he isn't bothered one bit by gays.

I have a question regarding transgendered folk. If you like members of the same sex but feel this burning urge to actually emulate the opposite sex, doesn't this mean that although you will have the "right" body, you won't necessarily attract the "right" mate? Like I'd assume your ideal mate would be a straight male, but isn't this really hard to come despite the surgeries, so what makes you decide?

Voice is my biggest issue as well. I've been working on it somewhat consistently for around two months now and it can be really frustrating at times. Hardest part is having the discipline to keep at it.

Part of my issue is that I will "break" into a perfect voice, where I sound totally appropriate. When I am not at that point, I sound forced, and my voice gets strained the longer I am not in that "break" area.

I own the Deep Stealth Productions voice products, and I feel that Melanie Phillips is a much better result (though I have not reached that point). You can hear signs in the clips from Andrea but almost not at all with Melanie's.

Gender identity has no bearing what-so-ever on sexual preference. I have been attracted to women all my life. I have never had a true attraction to men. Even after realizing what I was at like 14 (and knowing I was 'different from around 5), I did not stop liking girls and women.

Generally speaking, you 'know' what your preference is around puberty. You know who you are attracted to and who you aren't for the most part. If you are MtF and are attracted to men, you identify as a heterosexual woman. If you are MtF and like women, you identify as a lesbian woman.

"Attracting the right mate" is just as easy or difficult for us as it is for homosexual and heterosexual humans, though I met Leigh when I was 21 and she was told within a few days of us starting to develop our relationship.

Oh my bad, I always thought gender identity was strongly linked to sexual identity.

So are transgendered people who go the full way into their surgeries not afraid that their partners may lose their initial attraction for them? Is this something you've worried about? I'm guessing Leigh is okay with everything?

Leigh had (and sometimes still has) some issues with being seen as lesbian, but for the most part she is ok. She has 100% been my strongest supporter, my most outspoken defender, and a great shoulder to lean on.

Transsexuals are almost 100% concerned not only for losing their partners, but their moms, dads, brothers, sisters, extended family members, jobs, support systems, children, and anything else you can think of. People in general are very ignorant about the why's of being trans. They get scared because they don't know, and that fear leads to (in my eyes) unwarranted hatred. Before I told my mom, I was afraid of losing everything and everyone, and being forced to live on the streets. It is a valid fear that thankfully did not come to fruition with me. I know people whom this has happened to however, and it is not a good thing (tm).

i've always understood sexuality as non-binary, and so have never felt bad when i found a guy attractive. when i say 'wow so and so guy is attractive' i don't pretend to be looking at it completely objectively, there's definitely a sexual component (and often fantasizing LOL!). on the whole though i just like girls so much, fucking way too much, really, to act upon other impulses. i think it's important to keep in mind that human preference is always on a spectrum, not polarized extremes.

mora, do you feel a biological clock of sorts to have children and a family? where does the instinct to pass on your genes fit into everything? without outside assistance, there is only kin selection at work, so wouldn't it make sense for gays to have a genetic predisposition to be more protective of their families? i'm just playing around with these concepts, i'm stuck waiting for my shuttle at MLG raleigh =P

for 10k? certainly. i hate to be That Guy that says the clichéd shit, and i hate to be That Guy that says "i hate to be That Guy that says the clichéd shit, but...", but if you are comfortable with yourself it shouldn't be that shocking a question. Brambled's enthusiastic comment "I would even do the sucking!" sums it up for me too, it certainly seems fun (okay i was a little bit uncomfortable saying that on the forums) but i'm actually grossed out by the thought of getting jizz all over me. i think that's my limit, eh?

you know, someone who offers 10k to see one guy suck another guy's dick has more sexuality issues than the guy that agrees to do it

Wow, I apparently missed the Raelcun vs Catreina. Just looked up what he did. His cheeky little recording and forum posts basically outed Catreina as trans before she felt comfortable coming out on here. I just lost what little respect I had for Raelcun.
