Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

well i went back and read through the thread and found mora's post regarding the behavior of gays, it's definitely a better answer than yours. Never thought about it in that way, though perhaps a bit melodramatic.

as for the second one, man i have to tell you... being gay may have been anathema in times past but these days you can run into some confident, dominating gays... they're scary. I went through an experience with an older man where he was like trying to convince me to turn gay but i had no idea cuz i was 17 and he was saying all his explicitly sexual remarks in spanish. Once i found i punched him and quit my job tho... i have a friend who's going through something similar, he always gets hits on by gays and both of us find it fucking annoying because they're always trying to convince him and he's generally not an argumentative guy.

So you're hanging out with douchebags who wants to force their sexuality onto you? Again, what has this got to do with them being gay. Gay people aren't exempt from being douchebags. No wonder you've never experienced a similar straight guy, because you're not a woman. But believe me (and the women of the world) - those straight guys exists.

i think homosexuality can be understood in the similar phylogenesis with the bonobos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonobo#Sexual_social_behavior

conjecture about its function is too teleological imho

Before you judge sth, keep in mind that the less you know about sth, the more that what you think or pretend to know about it, it says about yourself and your environment.

You're saying that regardless of his ability to reproduce, he CHOOSES not to, and you don't get how I jump to nullifying "I'm just wired this way"?

Ahh.... it's always amusing to see how men react when they find themselves not in the position of the sexual aggressor. How threatened they feel.

By your uh, special, logic, I should have every right to hate *all* men because of a few catcalls last weekend. Or that motherfucker who wouldn't leave me alone at a club.

Women deal with this type of unwanted sexual advances ALL THE FREAKING TIME. Your one time experience with an older man hitting on you is a reality for many women on a regular basis.

I'm capable of reproducing, but I have no intention whatsoever of ever having children. I'm straight. Is there something wrong with me too?

Mora is also capable of reproducing, but chooses not to. I fail to see how this is a big deal?

Mora admits he only likes guys and is not attracted to girls. He is an extreme case in that he is gay and has had sex with a woman but you still use this as evidence to say that BEING gay is a choice. No, Mora having sex with women was a choice for him, but his attraction to men is probably innate.

Nothing is a big deal, nor is it wrong to choose not to procreate. As I said in my initial post, quoted by Masamune, What you do and who you do it with is fine.

I was attempting to say that the state of "gay", which from a certain perspective could be viewed as a 1-word label for "I choose not to have reproductively compatible sexual relations", would be the end of humanity if 100% of people chose it.

I will concede the point however in response to Masamune's retort about hypotheticals. He's right, this isn't the place for them.

Well, yes. If 100% of the population decided to not ever have kids... yes. Humanity would likely end. lol

There are only a few people I know in real life who know... I plan on telling my friends, though. I'm not going to be in their face about it, but I have to know where they stand on it. I don't think I could ever be friends with someone who's prejudiced against something that's a part of who I am.

EDIT: I just reread my post and noticed that I come across as a bit prejudiced myself. I don't mean to... I just don't want to associate myself with hateful, closed-minded people.

Just curious, what type of transgender are you? The feminine type or the masculine type?

And wow... there's a pretty diverse population on tl.net.

Thankfully, in our modern day society, we don't need to have compatible sexual relations in order to reproduce.

Oh... I guess. I mean, I'm not and have never been "flaming," but yeah, I've always been on the feminine side. For as long as I can remember, I've always been effeminate in mindset, but I've only recently started changing my physical appearance to match that.

I'm glad someone finally brought that up, I was going to say it but yea, it is still quite possible to reproduce without being in a relationship or even without having sex

I just thought I'd post and say hey. I'm a bisexual (I think) and transgendered (not necessarily transsexual but it's pretty likely) individual. I think this is an amazing thread and I wish that people in real life were half as accepting as the TL community :3

I am transsexual and I agree, none of my friends know, one plays Starcraft 2 also, and I am too afraid to tell them because I like having them as friends and I am afraid that if I tell them I will lose them as friends.

MtF. Why do you ask?

I don't mean that. I mean were you feminine as a child?

Oh... I guess. I mean, I'm not and have never been "flaming," but yeah, I've always been on the feminine side. For as long as I can remember, I've always been effeminate in mindset, but I've only recently started changing my physical appearance to match that.

I see... I'm just doing a little casual research on the topic.

Oh yeah and the question of whether gays are attracted to themselves when they look in the mirror is as stupid as asking girls if they are attracted to their fathers or boys if they are attracted to their mothers.

not to derail a thread but... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_complex

I think Mora's OP was quite clear on it, but a lot of ppl expressed that there's no need for such a thread, that this is a sc forum and should strictly be focused around the game and the kind of person you are does not matter. Wrong, it is a community made up by real people. If it would all be just about playing the game there would be no need for TL (maybe only the strategy forum). We see threads about "Calgary Lans" or "UK meet-ups" and whatnot. It's that we all here share at least the one interest that is starcraft, but aside from being gamers we have other interests as well. So it's only natural that we look for others with whom we share more interests. So a gay thread is just as viable as a chess, football, etc discussion thread.

I would feel different if the gays would start some annoying martyrdom (even if justified, because through this thread I've learned that gays are exposed to a lot of cruelty in life, but people usually react quite negatively to martyrdom), but ironically the only martyrs in this thread are the ones, which feel offended by gay talk and still feel the urge to read and post here.
