Where do you live?
I live about 2 blocks down from the University of Utah.
Also is this for SC2?
i live downtown, a few blocks north of the arena, not far from campus.
Where are you planning on having this "LAN" party? (I mean SC2 doesn't have LAN but I guess that's how everyone calls their computer game gatherings)
I'll be back in Utah this summer, and I could probably round up at least 3 more guys. I'd be totally down for this!
yeah sc2, i know sc2 doesnt have a "LAN" option, but that doesn't really stop a group of people from playing on bnet together. or maybe it does, i dunno haven't tried it
there are no plans for anything, first just wanted to find out if there are people in slc that would be down for it
i got a few i could round up. it would be nice to see some tournys around here :D
I'm down for it. How many people would you like to have at least?
I'm not in Utah right now, but I'm planning on moving back soon. I've got some friends there that would go to a SC LAN, and probably a few korea nerds from UVU can come up with us.

just checking but does anyone here actually know how to run a tournament? And is anybody else up for practicing and coaching? also the Gaming and electronics expo wants to do something with SC2 maybe even have a SC2 tournament in the middle of july. http://www.geexshow.com/ or so i'm told by someone on the inside.
I know of a ton of SLC TL lurkers, mostly my IRL friends but we all play SC/SC2 so we would be down, I know for sure at least 4 but maybe more. Definitely more if HoN is included
I'll go if I'm in town; i do not have SC2 beta though, would just be BW for me =(
I would probably be down for this, and I have 2-3 IRL friends that would probably come. I live pretty close the U as well. pashik.kharkov

I've organized cybergaming events before. I began in high school when I hosted a BW tournament for the school. We were not allowed to award cash but we gave out about 1000 dollars in product as prizes. There was a registration fee for the event to cover expenses. Recently I assisted in the organization of CyberDayz at UNLV. We had 59 participants in the Warcraft 3 division and gave away two Logitech G19s, a full suite of Razer peripherals (megalodon, lycosa, imperator, destructor) was the grand prize. We also awarded SC2 Beta keys as door prizes and had a lot of fun.
If you have questions about promotion, prize support, organization, or bracketing, I'd be happy to help.
Azerbaijan I can give you a beta key since I got 2 friend invites and have given only 1 of them away so far. The problem is I already added that beta key to a b.net account (which I don't ever use) so you'd have to type in the long email address every time you log onto the beta.

Sounds like a most minor inconvenience. I will accept your offer on the grounds that you are absolutely sure you don't have any friends who still need a key =D

I live down in the Provo/Orem area. I would be totally down for a SC2 'lan'. It has actually been something I've wanted to do since I heard they announced SC2.

Currently in Cottonwood Heights as well but will be moving to South Jordan in a few weeks. Weird this topic just came up because I was just thinking about this today. I'd be down with a LAN. BYOC? Dokkaebi.artsong
BTW it's cool to see just how many Utahns actually play SC/SC2....I thought I was a lone ranger in this state lol!!!
surprised to see so many responses
ya this would be way cool someone should put together a tourney for sure count me in + couple friends
Back in 2007 Gamespot did some research that showed SLC has the most gamers per capita and also EA Games has one of its headquarters here, afaik its the only EA studio that is expanding and not laying off. So its not THAT surprising that a lot of us play SC/SC2, to me its surprising that this many of us were online on the same website to see this thread before it got buried.
hey, i registered with TL just now bc im in SLC and would always be down for some sc2. dont have beta, but really want to get in on some SC2 action. help a brother out.
I just emailed that geexshow.com to see if the expo at South Towne Expo Center on July 16th/17th will have SC or SC2b included. I'll let you know what I find out. Maybe that would be our "LAN" party. Being 10 days before the release of SC2, I am doubtful that it will have anything SC2 related. But maybe if we all email them and say we want to see SC2b in the expo we could motivate them to include it. It appeared that most of the tournaments and games were Counterstrike, Halo, Guitar Hero, etc.
I'll keep you posted on their response!
UPDATE:
Here's the email I just got:
Thanks for contacting us!
Yes! We'll be having a Starcraft 2 beta tournament at GEEX 2010. Tournament rounds will be held in the LAN area with finals up on the main stage. We plan on having registration up on the website soon as well as rules, prize details, etc.
You can also follow us on twitter @geexshow for updates as well as check out the Facebook fan page and listen to the podcast.
We'll see you at the show!

Also live in the Cottonwood area and playing SC2 (top 5 gold 1's, top 5 platinum in 2's). Would love to game up some SC2 or HoN with some locals.
GEEX could work as a great venue but given that it's not until the middle of July maybe we could organize something else in the meantime? I might be willing to host something at my place but couldn't get more then maybe 6-10 people. Anyone else have a bigger place? Or even suggestions on a small LAN center we could rent out as a venue and BYOC?
excited to have geex host a sc2b tourney, i'll definitely sign up and play that.
but i agree with cazter that thats just a 1 time deal and its not for a long time. we should organize something on our own, at least just for practice

MassMan I also live really close to the U campus. My address is 100 South 1300 East.

This looks great maybe we can organize something towards the end of May. even if we don't have a prize pool yet it would be good to get the community together. i know of a few places to check out. there is a gaming lab, or whatever you call them, that I'm sure wouldn't mind loading sc2 onto their computers. they told me they used to do SC:BW stuff all the time. that way we would just have to pay the 10$ fee and not have to bring computers. there are also places we could rent a big room and BYOC
I'm planning on buying a new rig around the end of May because my current rig can has issues playing at times. For June I'd be down with a BYOC but before that the lab sounds better.
I go to the U and would love to lan sometime. I also have 3-4 IRL friends that are in beta and would be down for it as well. I even have a couple extra beta accounts that could be used by people that don't have beta and want to lan.

Currently residing at the University of Utah dorms. But I wont be back here until late August. Retreating back home to play with my crew for the summer. A big SC2 LAN would be sick, IMO. It's hard as hell to find other people who play around hereWTF. So much BM omg.

Hey, first time poster, i might be interested depending on the date

The number of SLC lurkers on TL is far higher than I had expected.
This looks like we might have quite the community of SC2 players around here. This might turn into something awesome. there seems to be about 50 people that we could get together, but if you subtract HuK his 4 wives and the 6 FBI agents trailing him. we will be about 40 but that sounds great for a tournament :D
Does anybody think the 29th of May would be bad? I think sometime around that holiday would be good.

If anyone wants to do some 2s add me, thrice.jason

That weekend would be sweet. I assume evenings would work best for everyone? Have we even figured out a venue, computer availability, perhaps any sponsors for a prize pool, etc? BTW, who would be in charge of this, lol?
Used to live in Bountiful. I'm pretty sure i can make the 15 Hour drive from washington though.
That might work, depending on what's going on that for me and what the computer situation is going to be. Also if I'm able to make it I could sponsor a prize for the tourney.

Okay, after doing some research, I found this website:

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what needs to be done to set up a LAN at their venue or if they would be willing to let us go there. Maybe they already host SC2 beta LANs there?

Do you know much about the venue? Like would it fit the 40-50 people we got interested in it? Would he know of any sponsors that might provide a prize pool?

he has 25-30 high performance computers, it could hold 40-50, but they would not all have their own computer. I'll give him a call tomorrow and find out about the sponsors.

There is a place down in Provo called Versus that I would guess has about 50+ machines. I'm not certain, I only went in there once, but it seemed like a pretty sweet setup.
Here's the website if you're curious to find out more:

I'm from Provo as well and both my wife and I could be intersted. Just message me here.

i updated my first post of this thread with an image
The response on this thread shocks the hell out of me! It's really awesome...
We need a venue we can rent out for the night. The 30-40 people posting in this thread, plus their friends, each paying $10-20 could easily cover the cost of an overnight gaming session at a local place like the one that's being mentioned in Taylorsville.
If someone hasn't taken the reins on locking down that Taylorsville venue by the end of the day then I'll step in and see what I can put together.
Hey everyone. @aikepah slung me a link to this thread via twitter. I am one of the organizers of GEEX. So I thought I'd register and shoot you guys an official announcement for the SC2 beta tournament at GEEX 2010.
We are still working on complete details, rules, prizes, etc... but it is going to happen and it's going to be awesome. This is our second year doing GEEX, the first happening in 2008. We had some awesome tournaments and an awesome LAN with about 200 people. This year is going to be even better. We have some really great people organizing the tournaments and it's probably the part I'm most looking forward to at GEEX.
In addition to the SC2 tournaments there will also be tournaments for TF2, CS:S, Trackmania, SSBB, SSF4, Halo and DDR.
I'm excited to see such a large local community getting pumped for this. Make sure to check the website http://geexshow.com for details (as we get them) You can also follow us on twitter @geexshow, check out the fan page on facebook and listen to the podcast http://feeds.feedburner.com/GeexPodcast. The podcast is probably the best consistent stream of information about the event (and other things) but we will update the website as we get details.

I just moved out here, living in Sandy. Always down to meet some fellow TL members!
I live within walking distance from Gamerz Funk so the site works for me, lets plan at least 2 weeks in advance if we can so that I can get the ole schedule cleared up.
Appreciate the response Royale. It's great to hear that there are people trying to facilitate an esport scene here in SLC. If we manage to get something together then you and the boys from MediaOne should come out.
Gamerz Funk doesn't open until noon but I plan to give them a call a long with any other viable venue in the SLC area I can find.
I know a few people down there that would be willing to go for it. I'll give him the link.
Does anybody from the U or the surrounding area want to meet up for just a few minutes, say at the cafe in the basement of the Marriott library? It'd be nice to meet each other IRL and get to know the faces before the LAN.

I'd be up for that. It's also possible to play a few games there in the library lab using a usb device with the game on it. That's how I've been playing lately since my laptop is not capable of getting more than 10 fps.

The GamerzFunk guys are going to be at GEEX this year hosting a HoN tournament as well... for those that are interested. They're good people over there.

I'm leaving Saturday to go home for the summer and wont be here for the LAN, but I'd be down for meeting with some other TL guys in the library at some point in that time window. HOWS ABOUT TONIGHT?
I would be down for meeting at the U as well, just finished my last final this morning so I am pretty free time wise.
I can meet at the U tomorrow (5/7). Have to finish my last final tonight (I take it on WebCT).
If people can't meet up tonight (library closes at 12), I'll be on SC2 almost all night. Little play date eh eh eh? Haven't played in a week because of finals, projects, etc. JoFu.dpr

I'm from American Fork as well and my wives and I could be intersted.

I'm working tonight, but I'll be able to check TL and run down to Marriott for a few minutes as well.

since my semester is over, and i live/work downtown, I probably will not be going to campus tonight for a face to face. but i'll be playing sc2 tonight and we can game and use my teamspeak server (teamspeak3 > skype > mumble > ventrilo for sc2)
I feel like shit today but uhmm are you guys meeting up anywhere? I dont have sc2 though
I live in Taylorsville

I'm in the main lab at the Marriot on the second floor, just finished my finals. I plan on being here most of the day if anyone wants to join me. I'm at the southwest corner of the room, computer KCPC-112.

I'm feeling pretty shitty myself after my finals. Way tired. Anyway, I can probably head down there in like 45 minutes, Mass. I'll bring my J-top and my 3 wives too.

Hello, I'm McKay. I'm an Oremite, and I'm the tournament director for StarCraft 2 at GEEX. I look forward to seeing all of you guys there.
I've held a few StarCraft parties and tournaments in the past 12 years, and I've even hosted a few (smaller) SC2 LANs in the past couple months, and I'm looking forward to helping out with the one at Geex.
We've got one sponsor who has pledged, but we're looking for some more if you can think of any, let me know. We'll probably be doing a cash pool and some prizes for the top entrants.
The tournament rules are mostly finalized, but if you'd like to give some input, I'd like to hear what you have to say, send me a message and we can talk.
McKay
I'm sensing that the nerdity of this gathering is going cause quite the scene. I wish I could be there to watch.
McKay, is the tournament going to be single elimination of BO3?
i think that most people here are probably not as nerdy as you think
McKay,
I know I've mentioned this in my previous posts, but I do recall PC Laptops hosting an SC/BW tournament and perhaps they would be interested in providing something for GEEX. You mentioned that you've hosted a few smaller SC2 LANs...where were they and what was the organization like? (By this I mean, were you in an internet cafe? BYOC? Prizes? Commentators? etc...) I've been emailing LeGrande to get further information on SC2 at GEEX, so hopefully he could mention this on his podcast and get more people intersted in a LAN party.
Also, as an update, I've been trying ALL day to get ahold of gamerzfunk.com to see if they would be willing to host some sort of LAN party, but they haven't been answering at all. I will keep trying over the next couple of days.
MassMan and I met up briefly. Sorry, JoFu, I missed you. And it wasn't nerdy at all haha.
Thanks to Toyomaha for trying to get more info
i am checking out the locations and will get back to you guys in a few min.
McKay, I heard u guys are organizing a street fighter tourny too huh?
SF hwaitin~
OK I checked out both locations and I would like to reserve at the Versus Gaming in Provo. They wanted to help out with everything(possibly even prize pool). They also have double the computers that the Gamerz Funk, and a larger area. I know its in Provo which means more of a drive for most of us but with it being a better venue I think it will be worth it. I'll will be driving to both locations to get a better look, and try to reserve one tomorrow.
Sweet, that's super close to me. I haven't been, or even heard of the place until this thread, but I haven't had much need to go to a cybercafe yet.

I think the tourney set up looks fine, but how do you plan to match up players? Obviously we'd like to see a good final match and with the way Blizzard has their match making features on bnet right now, I'm not sure how accurate it is. I've lost to some Silver players, but then beat good Platinum players.
As far as the Phase 1 single elimination goes....Most SC2 games last around 10-20 minutes. Personally, it wouldn't be worth it to me to pack up my computer, monitor, headphones, mouse, keyboard, etc...just to get eliminated 3 minutes into the 1st round to a noob that gets me on some cheez-build-reaper-rush-ftw. I think making it worth the entrants time and money is fair (after all, we are spending $10 to play plus $10/day entrance fee). Obviously if there are over 32 players, there are time restraints and single elimination might be the way to go. This is a 2-day event, right? How much time is allowed for the SC2 tournament? I am also assuming that the first round of games will be played "on the floor" and once the final 4 or final 2 are determined, the games will be played "on the main stage." So, just as a suggestion, IMO, double elimination would be far if it's only BO1.
Phase 2 seems fair and would be worth the time/money to play, IMO.
As for the 80/20 prize pool, is the 80 just going to 1st place or will there be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place?
So, this is just some food for thought and I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Back to the LAN party we're trying to organize....have we decided on a place? If everyone is cool with the Provo place, let's see how much it would cost for entry fee and what all we need to do to get it reserved. If someone provides me with the phone # I can call up and try to get as much detail as possible. Also, what weekend would be best for everyone? School's out for most college kids now, but are most of you in HS? When does HS get out for summer break?
I sent a PM to jasensaint, but I'll post this in this thread as well. I think lots more people will come to an event in SLC, rather than Provo. For the most part Provo people are pretty much used to commuting to have fun, while those in Salt Lake are most used to staying within the city. Plus it seems like there's way more people in Salt Lake (or the county) then in Provo (although there are quite a bit in Utah county as well).
To all those who are in Provo: I'll be in Provo tomorrow at the BYU campus in the morning for a bit, if you want to meet up briefly, just so say hello, PM me. I think it's much better to just see each others' faces before a LAN party, it definitely makes things less awkward for me.
Alright guys I went to both the suggested locations.
Gamerz Funk: has 19 computers and is not a very big area. If we do not have a large turn out this would be a good location. Other then that we will have to wait of more info because the employees don't really give out information that helps with setting this up. We got the hours that the owner is available to talk so we will work on that some more.
Versus Gaming: has 41 computers with space for more BYOC if it is needed. They offered to close normal business for the day and just host our tournament. So that when you get out of the tournament you can continue playing normal games. In addition to that they also have extra chairs and couches in front of large screen TV's that we could possibly watch matches from. They also offered to help out with keys if people are short on keys. The location has a lot of food places in the same parking lot. Versus gaming is clearly the better place but it is far away for people at U.
How about editing the OP to include a poll - Gamerz Funk vs. Versus Gaming? See where the people want to go (only those who will come for sure should vote)
Poll: Which would you prefer for phase one of the GEEX tournament?BO3, possibly time limited (9) 75% BO1, unlimited time (3) 25% 12 total votes Your vote: Which would you prefer for phase one of the GEEX tournament? (Vote): BO1, unlimited time (Vote): BO3, possibly time limited
So, I've been going back and forth in my head about BO1 and BO3 for the preliminary match. The problem is that we're limited on time. Yeah, we've got 2 days, but even 16 people with double elimination will take 8 or 9 rounds, and if we don't require the time to be limited (I'd rather not have time limits, but I'm willing to do it if that's best), that could be some time. So, I was planning on saving some time by making it BO1, but if you guys are worried about not countering cheese builds, let me know in the poll :D

live in Wyoming but am in Lindon for a few days. Might be able to make the Y tomorrow

Mckay, all SC tournaments of any note are 2/3 rounds. Keep in mind that most games only go 8-10 minutes.
Toyo and Jasen.. I also called GamerzFunk and was referred to the owner who has as of yet to respond to my email. The Versus location sounds pretty ideal so long as they have an area we can set up for BYOC and game it up for the night following the conclusion tournament. I am however concerned about SLC people showing up to a Provo area LAN. I'll come and I'll even car pool a few people as I am likely the oldest guy posting (mid twenties, already graduated from college).
Though the best LAN's I have been to typically happen at a privately owned location and following any tournaments is a night of gaming, bbq, and drinking Wish there was a location in SLC available for that.

I probably got you beat (26, graduated from college, married, 1 kid)!!!
Haha cazter, I doubt you'll get a lot of people to drink at these events Regardless, some sort of afterparty would be pretty fun. What do people think of playing games other than SC and SC2? I <3 Counter Strike, and would love to see it played as well. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I know *most* games last less than 20, but you know that with 60 random people, there's bound to be a couple of turtlers who make their games last forever. I don't think this will be a problem in the later rounds, but I think that in the early rounds it's not unfeasable for a BO3 round to take 3 hours.
I'm thinking I'll amend it to all BO3 rounds, but that if rounds go too long, I will call them for time.
Sounds good, I really like the idea of all phases having BO3, and a timer to stop extra long games sounds just fine.
That banner is horrible, did you mspaint it? xD
Good luck on getting an event going though! ^^

The tournament as it looks now would be at Versus Gaming on May 29(unless we can come up with a different location) We would like to have a 1v1 double elimination tournament as well as a 2v2 tournament. Versus gaming has offered to close their doors so that we have all day long to play(until 2am). If you get out of the tournament you will be able to play games with friends or even non-SC2 games. This being an all day event the cost would be about $15 per person. We are still working on the prize pool but i would like to know if you would like a bigger prize pool or pizza during the tournament.

I voted "location needs to change," but I'll show up regardless
i noticed that a few days before this thread was created there was one for the bay area and they are having theirs at a place just like us.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=122772 it look very similar to what we are doing. they charge 3$ per tournament you enter that is one way to get a big prize pool. the pizza looks popular
I stopped by Versus Gaming today, since I was in Provo anyway. Great venue, lots of computers, the guy (Shane) that was managing it was very nice. He said that they wanted to do a SC2 tournament anyway, so we could either let them take care of the planning and just pay $15, or we can continue trying to do our own. Up to you guys.
to the denmark hater: i think its pretty good considering I was laying down in bed and not using a mouse.
i will update the first post with more peoples user names when im off work later.

We should change the date! That is memorial weekend!
Hey guys - any of you SLC gamers previous P42 goers? I haven't seen the Protocol 42 website up in a while... I used to go to those LANs every month, I am from Idaho though, the only Idahoan that went
Name was Eric Stone on the P42 forums, any of you out there? (of the night) guys?
Dang, I didn't know it was memorial day weekend. I know I'm going to a bbq and a pool party then >_> Seriously hope that I can do both.
stoneric I used to go to P42 last year for Street fighter tournaments and I think they shut down
I wish I could attend more LANs down there in SLC, but I moved to Boise now, too far away. I used to go to P42 every month when it was a monthly event. Hope there are some more ex-P42'ers around!
I'd be totally willing to go to this, if my schedule will allow. I've really only played LANs for BW/WC3 with my friends from high school, so this would be pretty awesome. I could probably get 5-6 people to come as well...
Sadly, I don't have the beta, but I'm on normal SC/ICCup, i.d. Battleship789, of course.
@Battleship. Even if you don't have SC2 you should still come. There will be plenty of computers there and people will more than likely let you play on their account. There will be other games on the computers and I'm sure BW or WC3 is on there.
I would love to come to this, but I won't be in town on May 29th
Also P42 did shut down due to not enough attendance. Shame really, was pretty fun and a nice location.
yea i won all the tf2 tourney's at the p42 events. probably didn't help business there lolz
they didn't try hard enough to get the word out about their organization, they just expected word of mouth and old people to show up monthly
that said while it was lasted it was fun

My calendar is open for the 29th so right now I'm planning on being there.
It sounds like moving the tournament back a week would be a good idea. several people have mentioned they have family events on that same day. this would put the event on June 5. we are checking out one more location in salt lake. when we get anything official we will have it post to the OP, and begin registration.

For those that have mentioned that they have IRL friends, see what weekend works best for them as well. Preferrably, have them register here on TL and have them vote. Gathering their information would also be easier, since we'd probably just do it through PM.
June 5th would be better for me. I might have some things planned on the 29th. Also more people might be out of town for Memorial day weekend. June 12 is the ACT test and USA vs England in FIFA. So the 5th is perfect!
anyone wanna play some 2v2s (either custom or ladder is fine)? msg me, Clive.clive, I'm online.

I'm ok with Memorial Weekend or June 5. Hi btw =] I've been a regular P42 attender for years.. until Wow slowly killed it off.
I'm down for tournaments whenever. I've hosted a few SC2 Lans at my place(West Jordan) with 6 people or so. SC2/Hon makes for some amazing LAN's
Bloodywave.russ is my alias btw. Also, I always have 2-5 friends who are interested in any type of SC2 LAN/tournament, and who are available most weekends.

I am always down for a LAN. I live in South Jordan so i only like 10 minutes from down town SLC. Ever wanna play some games hit me up.

June 5th doesn't work for me, May 29th does. Iffy on the 12th or 19th.
Why don't we hold multiple LANS? If people wanna go to both they can. All we need is someone to host the events, one on the 5th, one on the 29th. If same person wants to do both, great.
Poll: 2 eventsWould attend both (11) 73% Would attend only June 5th (2) 13% Would attend only May 29th (2) 13% 15 total votes Your vote: 2 events (Vote): Would attend only June 5th (Vote): Would attend only May 29th (Vote): Would attend both

So this is happening soon right? haha
There are a few of us that are calling up a few places here in SLC that would potentially host a LAN. We will keep you all updated as soon as we find a place that is cheap and willing to help us out. Versus Games sounds like a pretty sweet venue, especially if they'll pitch in to the prize pool. The only down side to that is the location - COUGAR COUNTRY! So, we're weighing our options and trying to find an equal or better venue up near the U or at least in the Salt Lake Valley (it seems the majority of people live in SLC). Again, we'll keep you updated with any potential locations and/or dates.
I think there's enough of a response that it's not practical to do it at someone's house - a venue is the best option, imo. I asked Versus Gaming if they knew of a comparable place in Salt Lake county, but Shane, the guy there, said that Gamerz Funk is the only place he knew of.
hmmm, anyone got an invite a friend I could get for a friend of mine? I'll get him to post on here himself but, I saw a few people say that had some spares so I'm just lookin around.
Well I have seen some houses comfortably fit 40 people. But whatever. Dunno if we have anyone like that here. I personally have never done a LAN at a rented venue. But I am down for w/e
Well, I'm in Ogden, 'bout an hour's drive out. If I could work it out, I'd be up for it for SC2.
Edit: Just one question, dunno if it's been asked, but will there be brackets for all different skill levels, or would I just have to deal with being Steamrolled for a whole night? =P

this is a fair concern, and I'm sure there is some way to reconcile skill differences

if we have enough people show up we would like to have different brackets but if there are only 16 people that show up it will only be 1 bracket. we will try to get everything finalized today and have dakine post the details on the OP

i dont think its a dud, we may not get a huge LAN going, but ive already had mini-lans with a few people at my apartment downtown, and been a lot of fun
GEEX tourney i think is definitely going to happen, and i think that gamerzfunk and the one in provo (versus?) would both be interested in helping us have some sc2 thing.
patience, patience.
also, clive and myself might be making a website and if we do, we will include a tourney script so we can host little tournies on BNET. Problem is that i work full time, and play sc2 part-time, so i dont have a ton of time for web development.

Whats the policy on bringing friends to watch? Do they have to pay to get in? Or is it 15 registration for the tournament, not necessarily access to the venue (never been to a LAN at a venue, sorry just wanted some clarification)

Sorry guys, looks like we will have to cancel our LAN on the 5th :\ http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=125864
Beta phase 1 ends May 31st and doesn't start up again until July probably.
Maybe we can move the date of the LAN to the 29th, but I wont be able to make it for that day. Unless you guys just want to push it to July.

I'd be willing to host one at my house if we can't work it out for the LAN center. I can fit 10 people comfortably and have a Comcast business internet line(24 megabit down and 3 up)

Anybody else get an email from Versus Gaming? They're thinking about moving the tournament either to memorial day weekend or to July (when the beta resumes). Any opinions? I told them to do it on memorial day weekend - they'll still get some turn out I would think. I, for one, would still go (I think, still not sure about the timing of the bbq).

I did not get an e-mail and I pre-registered. So...they don't like me apparently. or I typo'd my e-mail adress. Either or.

Either works for me, if we could rent a room thats equivalent in cost or less than versus, thatd be really cool. So w/e works. Mb you could find some more information about that option? One problem with all going for the friday night lockdown, is they fill up fast, and I believe many of you guys would travel here just to get turned down.
I think the sc2 sl community would be better served to wait until after the 2 week down time occurs.
I'll be there at the end of August. Keep the party going until then, please
ok guys sorry i have been in Mexico for a week , and i just got back to utah last night and saw everything fell apart. i went down to versus gaming this afternoon and they agreed that we could have a gathering there. it will not be the great tournament that we were planing to have, but at least we can get together. considering the short notice of the changes we WILL have the tournament, but they will not be closing the doors to the public. the pizza is off but the entry fee can be moved to $15 at the door $10 preregistered. the prize pool will be smaller but we will have at least $50 for first place. this will be for the 1v1 tournament. i think it is bo3 format. starting at 230 but we recommend getting there early. this will focus more on playing and having fun all day. if we have enough people there we might have the 2v2 but i doubt there will be a prize pool. i will be collecting the preregistration information. Jasensaint@gmail.com 8016553187 call or text i will need your email and bent ID at least. please get me the info soon because i have to tell versus how many computers to install SC2 on. thanks guys and please come have fun
ok. just stumbled upon this, awesome find. read through all the pages but kind of confused - is there BYOC at versus? also, can we get an update on the front page with: location (address), time (starts) price (pre-register discount or no?) and an updated list of everyone's bnet ID (if people will post them) thanks guys! This sounds awesome, had no idea of the number of people here that game like this!

i just updated the main post with this info from jasensaint
From: jasensaint Subject: sc2 tournament Date: 5/26/10 07:24 please update the OP to include the change of cost to 15 at the door and 10 preregistered i will send out a coupon that will get them in for 10$ 2v2 will most likely not happen but there will be at least 50$ for 1st place. if you have more questions give me a call 8016553187

versus has computers we will use. i believe the OP has the time and address. $15 at the door or $10 preregister.

I live in the area but won't be going to this.
If you guys are worried about Bnet stability for the tournament, make sure everyone knows about R1CH's hotfix. Should make things run smoother should Blizzard not manage to fix everything by the 29th.
ok looks like we have about 10 people so far so tell your friends and sign up.
im pretty sure I wont be going unless bnet gets patched, not worth the 2-3 hrs driving (both ways) to play this garbage
It wont get patched, but we will use R1CH's little fix and it will run super smooth. You have to go Dakine, you started this thread after all
Does anybody have an extra key or two? I have 2 more friends that might be able to come but they don't have keys. If not maybe I can just let them use my account for their tourney games?

Yea... bnet's instability has really sapped my enthusiasm for this game. The hotfix is better than nothing, but the latency is still upwards of around 500ms. I'm assuming blizzard not only implemented UDP, but altered the latency to compensate for the change. Using the hotfix only reverts it back to TCP, the latency is still there zZz.

Well as R1CH said it only makes YOU not lag, it doesn't stop others from lagging the game, but if everybody in the game had the hotfix then it shouldn't lag at all (in theory). So we can try it out. I think it will be fine I played some 3v3s today with no hotfix and it played fine for the most part, tiny bit of lag for some people in the big battles, but that's 6 armies meeting Lots of units and effects going on screen at once. So I think it should be very playable this weekend.

so its on saturday. the site says it's $10 for all day pass; is that new info or does that factor into the '$20 at door $15 preregister' where the extra money (5 to 10) goes towards prize pool?
Versus has about 4 "guest keys" that people can use (or least they did last time I talked to them).

it is now $10 for the day we are trying to get the cost as low as possible.
Should be a fun event, bnet has been as smooth as butter today
Ya once they took off the ability to publish maps, the lag issue seemed to go away. I've played these last 3 days with no problems at all. Saturday should be fun!

Well they added that feature back So whatever happened they pretty much fixed the problem. There's still a few problems with the UDP changes they made, but for the most part it's been smooth sailing. I've had a little lag in 3v3s but I feel like that's people's PCs lagging and not b.net
Im RSVP'd again For the 3rd time

Oh, I didn't know they added this feature back in. I was almost certain that whatever changes they would have had to have made would have been in a patch, but I guess not. Either way, I think we should be fine for Saturday's tournament as far as lag goes. Now we just gotta figure out people's ranks and make up a fair bracket.

i'm here at versus gaming and there are already about 7 people here. versus is right by Quicksilver in the parking lot with market fresh store in it. hope to see you all soon. come have fun and bring friends. if you need anything give me a call or text 8016553187

Congrats to OnEMoReTrY. Well played man. Fun time.
The tournament was fun. we had 18 player, and with that short notice i think that is good :D the tournament was a blast and after we played an 8 player ffa and some 4v4 3v3. 1st OnEMoReTrY 2nd aikepah 3rd BloodyWave
well played everyone and we hope to see you all at the next tournament.
Big thanks to jasensaint for making the event a success, was really fun to meet you guys. Can't wait for the game to go retail w/ all the new maps/UMS games to come =d.
I'm so glad that people showed up There's a much bigger StarCraft community in Utah than I thought. It was pretty awesome to walk through Versus and see so many computers running SC2 (as opposed to HoN -_-).
I'm curious to know for future events - what do people think could have been done better? What would you like to see in the next LAN party we do?
The biggest thing that I thought of right away was greater interaction between all the players out of game. Whether that means going out to eat before/after the tournament, doing something together, whatever it is I think it'd be good to get to know the community rather than just sit next to each other and play. Any thoughts?
That's lame that onemoretry won. Stupid Raven/tank/marine/Viking timing push! LOL just kidding man....well played! Ya getting lunch or something before a tourney would be cool. GG's to all and I can't wait for the next LAN.
The caliber of player their was incredible! I got my butt kicked by Kungfu and Massman
I agree, aikepah, about the semis/finals. I actually thought about asking versus to do that, but I had to take off before the finals. A way for everybody to watch the finals would be awesome.
sounds like fun!
I would definitely come to more LANS, especially ones in salt lake---but i haven't played starcraft at all since patch 13.
it saddens me that the best RTS since broodwars has been so ruined by bnet 2.0, I just don't have any motivation to play with the way the interface works and the way the ladder is constructed.
/waiting for retail version to hopefully be better (but it wont be, blizzard is a money-centric company now, as opposed to being customer-centric and quality-centric)
*edit* ill probably get banned for posting this though, since TL is now in the market of selling blizzard games. Isnt that right, Kennegit?
Dakine is wasn't too bad, the biggest problem I had with the tourney as far as b.net was just trying to add people to friends, b.net was being wonky with that. But I didn't have any lag at all in game.
Oh yea one more suggestion next time, actually create lower brackets because the way it was done was weird, I had to play an outrageous number of games I made it to the finals of the upper bracket so when I went to the lower bracket I should have just had to play 1 guy before moving to the finals, but I had to plaly 2 or 3 people in the lower bracket instead so that was weird.
Yea the brackets were wonky, in a true double elimination tournament, the winner of the loser bracket must win 2 best-of-5's to win the tournament, while the winner of the winner bracket must only win one. And yea, aikepah should only have had to play one match in the loser bracket.
Does anybody know if Versus has any of the replays saved? I had to leave right after the tourney and was already late for stuff so I didn't even think about getting my replays! I would like to watch them. Do any of you guys have the replays or do you know if versus has them?
Sorry for a little Thread Necromancy, but Geex (http://geexshow.com) now has registrations and rules up for their SC2 tourney.
Yea, I was just thinking. Now that the beta is back up we should do another little event. If not at geex or something, we could just do one on a Tuesday at Versus ($10 day pass every Tuesday it seems) Maybe I won't fail so hard.. lol
I was about to sign up for it, then I realized it costs $40 to do it. That's way too much for me to likely get knocked out early on.
$40 and you have to be there at like 10am on friday... can't make it. I have only played two games since the beta has been back, but I'm sure I could still give people a run for their money. Eh oh wells. You guys want to do another LAN at Versus? I'm cool with that cuz they gave me a free day pass We can do it on $10 tuesday, then say another $5 for the tourney and winner gets 80% 2nd gets 20%? or something
We should gather together again this Friday (if not too soon) Versus just advertised a $10 day pass event till 4 etc. Would be nice to do it with better bnet features and less lag in games etc.
Also, where did everyone go for their copies? I recognized one person at the Sugarhouse gamestop that went to the LAN at versus back in june, but sadly could not remember his name for the life of me. Kind of thinking it was MassMan but I could be totally and completely wrong, just that name also seems a bit familiar (btw, I was the person wearing Tasteless' micro-macro shirt, #4 in line if you recognized me at all)
Hurray for Starcraft!
Aha! Yes I was there in Sugarhouse and I saw the micro-macro shirt. So I guess that Versus LAN didn't happen, but we should get something together before school starts back up again.
I got mine at the gamestop in Orem at the University Mall there was something like 450+ people that reserved there haha. I would definitely be up for some more LAN action at Versus or where ever :D Aparently there's over 500 people in this area that are potential players ;D I could maybe get some fliers up at UVU to get more people to go.
I'm down for another LAN! I would prefer to be up here in SLC if possible, but if not I'll make the drive down to Versus. Does anyone know of a local place or house to do it at? A friend of mine had an all night LAN at a co-workers house and he said there was like 16 ppl there so there's more potentials to join in. Anyway....let's get something scheduled soon!
We need to start having some sort of regular competition, I would be willing to help organize it. Some local regular incentive based competition and collective, cooperative improvement is the best way to stay competitive on a national/international level. IMO.
Yeah, let's get something planned soon. Some friends and I have been looking for local SC2 LANs.
Alright well maybe we can organize something with Versus so we can reserve a bunch of PCs and do some sort of tournament and general gaming and such Maybe we should make a new thread and do a poll or something to see how many people we can get to go. Me and my friend Joon can both go again and possible bring like 4 more. We just need like 16 people to have a great event
http://www.thegamerzfunk.com/blog/utah-lan-party/all-night-lan-party-12
Unfortuanately they only have 18 computers (actually 17 because 1 just "kicked the bucket") and I called and they've already got 7 people signed up. They also have 2 available ethernet connections for those that would like to BYOC. Anyway, that's always an option for those interested this Friday Night (Aug. 6th 10pm - 8am).
I'd still like to do a LAN like we did at Versus (competitive, good mannered, prize pool, etc.). When does school start up for everyone, just so we can plan it before that dreadful day?
Just got starcraft 2. I love to LAN, love tournaments and I live in SLC. I couldn't believe the size of this thread, so I just had to post.
I wish P42 was still around...
That thing at Gamerz Funk would be nice if it started a bit earlier 10pm - 8am is a little extreme... it's not so great playing SC2 when you are tired haha.
Hosting a LAN party at my house on Friday(8/6). Start time around 6 or 7 PM. We go til everyone passes out or leaves
I only have room for a few more people, as I do have limited space. Email me at russell (dot) malloy (at) gmail (dot) com You can text me at 80x-842-7399 as well
Oh yeah, i guess location is important. Right off 9000 South I-15 exit in West Jordan.
I shall be there BloodyWave. OneMoreTry gave me the address and stuff.
should do it on a saturday some time russ i dont get off work till like 1am on fridays
glad to see some locals getting together!
the U starts school on the 23rd. any lan between now and then would probably get a bigger turn out.
I called Versus and their tournament concept is the same as last time: $15/person for an all day pass, we can rent the whole place out if we have enough players and they'll pitch in a prize pool for us. I've tried to get ahold of Gamerzfunk but I can't get ahold of the manager. I'm going to assume that their fees are comparable. So, to get an idea of how many people are interested:
Poll: If we have a tournament before August 23, will you attend?Yes, for sure! (9) 82% Depends on the day and time (2) 18% No (0) 0% 11 total votes Your vote: If we have a tournament before August 23, will you attend? (Vote): Yes, for sure! (Vote): No (Vote): Depends on the day and time
Also, if you have more friends, please post how many. Thx guys!
I would definitely go, but it will depend what day specifically; weekends are best =D
If you all make an account at RTSSanctuary, it is much easier to schedule and you don't have to hide from admins. Also, I live just down the road on University Parkway. I'd love to play. What is everyone's rating? I don't want this to be too easy

36-12 1v1 diamond, 105-19 2v2 diamond. There's a pretty active lanning community in Utah full of good players =o I live pretty close to you, down at King Henry aparmtents on 9th east.

Adacc... beating Onemoretry wont be easy for anybody... I swear I'm gonna have to start 6pooling him every game But I'd definitely be up for a LAN at Versus, especially since they owe me a free day there haha.

Here's the email I received from the owner of GamerzFunk:
I talked to you a little earlier on the phone about a possible Starcraft 2 tournament for you and your friends. This is what we can offer your group:
Your friends can buy 5 hour blocks of game time for $10. Regular price is $13. That is almost a 25% discount. If the tournament goes longer than the 5 hours, you and your group of friends can of course purchase another 5 hour block of time for $10.
Entry fee for the tournament could then be $10 per person. 100% of this money would go to the tournament cash prize pool. 70% for 1st place, and 30% for 2nd place.
We can structure the tournament however you want. Double Elimination (suggested for less than 16 players) or Single Elimination (suggested for 16 or more players). Then you can do best of One or best of Three. If best of One is chosen, we do suggest the championship match is best of Three.
If you have any more questions, either give me a call or reply to this e-mail!
Sounds like GamerzFunk is cheaper if you don't include a prize pool.
GamerzFunk: $10 for 5 hours + $10 for prize pool = $20 Versus Gaming: $15 for all day pass + prize included in all-day pass= $15
I'm sure we could talk to GamerzFunk and see if we could change the $10 to $5 for the prize pool. It's up to you guys!
Eh, the tournament we ran at versus gaming went extremely smoothly, and it wasn't close to being under 5 hours. That would put the tournament cost at $30 at gamerzfunk, which is too much for most people (see GEEX).
I have 8 "Play ALL Day Saturday for FREE" giftcards for Versus Gaming that I got from GEEX that I could give you guys if we decided to do it this Saturday. They expire August 16th. Everyone that went to GEEX got a bunch too. So if we can get it organized for this Saturday, thats the way to do it imo.
I'm down for any weekend this month for LAN/Tourney, I like the Versus idea because we can get a lot of people in for free and even if we do pitch in a few bucks for the tournament we wont be giving a ton out of pocket to onemoretry
I would be able to make it to Versus this Saturday but Joon has a lab final on Saturday so he wouldn't be able to make it possibly at least not until later in the day like 5pm or so. Last time we did that tourney at Versus it took like 8 hours from start to finish haha so we definitely need about that long to do the upper and lower brackets. We could probably do it faster if we write out brackets properly before playing, the guys at Versus got a little mixed up when it came to the loser brackets
I couldnt go to the last one would love to go. i always have Sat off, the other day it depends. also would be down to get some food before or after the tournament
There's a bunch of places to eat right around there so that wouldn't be a problem. Everybody could go in on some pizza or something of the sort, or everybody can just get their own thing Look forward to 6pooling every single one of you guys there this weekend :D
I've had 3 responses to my email I sent out yesterday and only 8 people have confirmed that they can go here in the thread, so we might not have very many people.
I can probably make it on Saturday, but can't commit 100%. We may want to check with VG and make sure its ok before we use up all of their computers with free gaming passes on a Saturday. Just a thought...
Only 8 people? 3 responses? That's 11 people + I can drag 1 or 2 along with me and I know other can too. I invited my friend Andy, he said he's probably gonna come down so We've got at least 12 maybe more. Last time I think we had 18 people play in the tourney at versus, I imagine a similar situation this time. We don't need a ton of people to have fun And BloodyWave might be right about calling VG first lol... They will make no money that day if we use free passes hahaha.
K, I called Versus and their manager is on vacation until Saturday. So, how you would you all feel if we did an unofficial tournament, just like last time, at Versus this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.? I'd suggest the following Saturday (Aug. 21) but I won't be able to make it then, so someone else would have to organize it or make sure to send out an announcement.
So, Saturday, Aug. 14 2:00 p.m. at Versus Gaming - $15 all day pass, no prizes unless someone pitches in or it is agreed on by all to pitch in some extra $.
If this is okay, I'll send out a mass email to everyone. Just thought I'd confirm it here first.
Git'r'dun! Sounds good to me. I can probably be there around 2, Joon has a lab final sometime on Saturday, so depending on when he finishes he might not make it til 4 or so.
Is aike the only one able to go this Saturday?
im in slc and would be interested in playing. is this still going on?
On August 12 2010 07:14 backache wrote: im in slc and would be interested in playing. is this still going on?
Yep!
Here's the email I just sent to everyone, in case there are more that weren't included:
We are going to try and have another tournament this Saturday, August 14, 2010 @ 2:00 p.m. at Versus Gaming in Provo. GamerzFunk was too expensive, although the location was ideal for most everyone. Entry fee is $15 for an all-day pass at Versus. Some have mentioned that they have passes for a free day, so maybe we could divide up the total cost amongst everyone. Of course, it's up to those that have the passes. Just as a suggestion, we could use the difference in money to go towards a prize for 1st and 2nd places (80/20). Anyway, based on the thread on teamliquid.net, there's not very many people aware/interested in this, so please spread the word. I only have email addresses for those that expressed interest on teamliquid, so I'm sure there are quite a few others outside of the community that would be interested. Please forward this email to them!
Unfortunately, the owner of Versus is out of town until Saturday, so we weren't able to involve them in this tournament, yet again. Organization and rules will be completely up to all of us. Tournament style will be similar to last time: winner and loser brackets (double elimination), best of 3 until finals, which will be best of 5. Winner of winners bracket vs. winner of losers bracket. Loser bracket winner has to beat winner bracket twice. Map pool to be determined by majority vote at Versus. Loser picks map.
If you would like, we could all snag a bite to eat at 1:00 p.m. somewhere close to Versus. For those interested, show up at 1:00 and we can all decide where to go.
Please reply and let me know if you'll be able to make it. If anyone in SLC would like to meet up and carpool down, I'm cool with that. Reply back and I'll give you my phone #.
Hope to you see you all there!
gl hf gg
If you would like to be included in the email list for tournament updates, PM me and I'll add you. Let us know if you'll be there! Thanks guys and hope to see a good turnout Saturday (Aug. 14, 2010)
Well I can definitely go. I also have like 4 others that are maybes... like 75% sure they can go but who knows. Possibly can bring more that don't have SC2 but I remember Versus saying they have like 3 or 4 SC2 accounts people can use. So I have somewhere between 1 and 6 people coming Also OneMoreTry should be there, sounds like adacc will go, Bloodywave maybe? I don't know we will have a decent turnout I'm sure
I was thinking, maybe we could get like a facebook group going or something so that whenever we plan a tournament or LAN we can post it there and everybody will automatically see the updates? Would anybody be interesting in doing something like that so you don't have to go to TL and specifically read through this thread to see what's going on?
Guess I'll have to sign up for a facebook account! NO!!!! I was actually going to see if anyone knows how to design a website or knows of a free website host. I'd be willing to help out in the design and organization of a competitive Starcraft 2 scene in Utah. Local tournaments once a month or once every other month and having an official website to go to would be so much easier. Anyone interested? Ideas? Thought/suggestions?
We could use something like the local SSFIV players use. They just use this website http://utahstreetfighters.blogspot.com/ to post official tourney's and results and such. Then they have their own thread on shoryuken.com to organize the details. Or we can be creative and come up with our own way
I'm a web developer... I do more interactive type things like web applications and stuff with databases Not exactly the design side but I could make a website with stuff to post tourneys and results, not just a forum with threads to do it but maybe something similar to the TL tourney tracker.
Update:
Well, there appears to be a fair amount of people unable to make this Saturday's tournament. So, here's a poll:
Poll: Which Saturday would you prefer?August 21st (10) 83% August 14th (2) 17% 12 total votes Your vote: Which Saturday would you prefer? (Vote): August 14th (Vote): August 21st
August 14th would not necessarily have a prize pool unless everyone pitched in.
August 21st would provide enough time to contact Versus to see if they would be interested in hosting a tournament and perhaps providing a prize pool. I won't be able to make it the 21st, so if this is decided on by majority vote, then someone else will need to call and arrange the tournament.
Also, here's another poll:
Poll: Where would you prefer to have the tournament?GamerzFunk in SLC (9) 53% Versus Gaming in Provo (8) 47% Another Venue (please post where & $) (0) 0% 17 total votes Your vote: Where would you prefer to have the tournament? (Vote): Versus Gaming in Provo (Vote): GamerzFunk in SLC (Vote): Another Venue (please post where & $)
A few pro's and con's to each place:
Versus Pro's - Sufficient amount of computers, $15 for all day pass, possible prize pool provided Con's - Far from SLC and not as many participants, due to amount of computers there will be other players there not in the tournament GamerzFunk Pro's - Closer to SLC resulting in more people participating, could be just enough players to have the whole place to ourselves, possible prize pool provided Con's - $10 for 5 hours of play (if tournament goes longer than 5 hours, then cost goes up), if more than 20-ish people show up there isn't enough computers
Pardon the long post, but just had to get the details out there. So, here's some food for thought and please respond a.s.a.p. so we can plan out this tournament with enough time.
Thanks!
So it looks like next weekend would be better, but I think we actually have more people from Utah County than SLC haha. Because there's me, I have 3 friends down here that would go, and then there's like OneMoreTry and I think Eddie is down here somewhere, plus whoever else voted on this poll. Plus we know a few more people at UVU that would possibly go and maybe some people at BYU. The gamestop in Orem had more preorders than any other gamestop in the country, so obviously there's a fairly large community here in Utah County (They had like almost 500 preorders at that 1 gamestop, I don't know about the other gamestops in Utah County)
Haha, ya, looks like the voting is heavily favored towards the 21st. As far as location goes, Versus seems like the place to hold it at if what aike's saying is true. Anyway, like I said before, I won't be able to make it next weekend, so someone else will have to do the calling and setting up of the brackets. Catch ya guys at next months tourney!!! Have fun!
If we're planning on doing a monthly LAN why don't we alternate between GamersFunk and Versus? That way it's fair to everybody as far as driving and when it's in SLC more people up there can go and when it's in Provo more people down here can go. I dunno... just a thought.
So we are doing this, Saturday? just trying to get a bump and still find out the plan.
I will call versus right now and see if they would like to help us out with some discount or something. I will post the results in just a second.
So they are closed Sundays, I will give them a call tomorrow.
Ah dang I totally forgot to check this thread T.T bah. i'm liking the idea of a facebook group lol. (i'd like to get on the PM list, I'll look back through the thread to see who to pm for that... anyway)
How conflicting is Tuesday for tournament? With it being $5 less for a daypass, we could definitely get a prizepool going. This would only be viable for this tueday (in two days...) which is obviously a bit too short of notice.
I think our utah-community should add eachother on sc2 as well and could provide ample opportunity for practicing etc. my character code is 179, name is my forum name.
Hopefully this saturday (or miraculously possibly tuesday...?) we'll be able to set something up and have a great time. I've improved like none other since our last encounter... hopefully i won't get humiliated as badly hah. great stuff..

Got this email today from Versus:
Hi Brandon! I was out of town for awhile and just got your email. We will be planning to have a tournament towards the end of August/beginning of September. You are more than welcome to come and "host" your own tournament among friends at our LAN Center. Friday and Saturday we are open until 2am. Keep in mind that we have a decent number of gamers coming in and play throughout the day. So it might be best to come at opening to select your PCs and be able to secure them.
Should you choose to "host" your own tournament, it's best to keep it simple. Each gamer can purchase a daypass and be able to play as long as your tournament lasts. We've had others come in to do there own tournament and we typically dont get too involved. When we plan SC2 (and other) tournaments we try and go all out and round up 40-50 players and it will last all day. So stay in touch for the next one! However, we can contribute some giftcards for your winners.
Please email back with any questions you have and I will respond quickly since you D-Day is approaching!
Thanks.
Whoever is in charge of this Saturday's tournament might want to let Versus know so they can plan on a small prize pool and perhaps reserving computers.
Once again, anyone interested in receiving updates on Utah tournaments for SC2, please PM me your email and I'll be sure to add you to the list. I like the idea of doing a blogspot site for updates and information about upcoming tournaments here locally. So, PM if you're interested in helping or have ideas for getting the word out!
I will talk with Versus tomorrow and figure something out for this Saturday (Sorry tehPyro this Tuesday is a little too short notice for most people ) I will post back here tomorrow after I find out what they say and if we need to reserve PCs then I will just have everybody email me with their name so we can have enough computers there to play on.
Well, it's tomorrow. Who's still planning on going? I want to but, alas, I can not go D: I would love to see some pics / updates of what goes down (depending on whether you DO continue with the plan)

FML my phone just like exploded on me a couple days ago which meant no phone calls/texting or internet (Cuz I was using my phone for interwebz ) So with no phone I couldn't call anybody at Versus or anything. Also my sister is wanting me to go BBQ with her tomorrow so I probably can't make it to Versus anyways I'm flying down to Arizona on Sunday and will be back in 1 or 2 weeks so I can't make it to anything until after that. And then CSL starts the first week of August so every Saturday I'll have to be doing that stuff (But can still do it at a LAN I suppose?).
On that note, anybody here want to join the UVU CSL team? We need more UVU players :D It's tons of fun playing agaisnt other schools. We had a great team for the most part in the spring semester of this past year and I would love to get lots of good people to play (Also Onemoretry should join our team! haha)
I would love to be on a team, sound like most people are out. if people show up post something here and i will be there. as for the UVU team pm me with the details

Do you have to be a UVU student? Or better yet, a college student?

Anyone know anything about the thing Versus said they are planning on hosting? One of their emails said end of August/early September but their website has nothing new on it.

To be on the UVU team you need to be a student at UVU. If you attend another college/university in Utah then you can get 4 other people and start your own team The more the merrier.

Hello All. I'm a top 20 diamond player from salt lake. My character is Cloud and code is 727. Just thought I'd check in and let you guys know I'm gonna come to the next lan event! Looking forward to meeting all of ya there.- Jeremy Littlefield

The Official Starcraft 2 Tournament @ Versus Gaming on Sept. 11th has been announced. Check out www.starcraftutah.blogspot.com for more info. Spread the word!
Some good prizes They have the $5 tourney buy-in, but the prizes should end up being worth about that or more, so they aren't going to be making money off of the $5 tourney buy-in. This should be lots of fun. Everybody needs to come :D

Eddie you better get a new PC! lol we need you on our team man!
Bloody, that tourney you posted seems like it will cost a lot of money... it says that they an charge up to $25 a day, and if you are doing well you need to go 4 days, so that's up to $100 they can charge to play in the preliminaries. If you make it to the Ro16 then it will cost you even more :\
I just found out that I have to travel this weekend so I can't make the lan =(
Anyone know if versus will do this again? If it is monthly or something that would be awesome. I'm sure I'll be able to make it to one eventually if thats the case.
FYI...it's not this weekend. It's september 11th. I'm sure Versus will be having more tournaments so this is hopefully one of many.
We should get everybody's usernames/IDs so that we can all add each other on b.net and play games together. I already have like 16 random people from around Utah on my friends list But wouldn't mind more, preferably protoss players because I'm sick of playing ZvT lol.
On that note... Blizzard should implement friends list 'groups' like most messengers have. It would be nice to throw all random Utah gamers into 1 group, my real friends in another group, progamers/casters in another group on my list Sometimes I forget who people are on my list when they aren't realID friends.
Good idea... Ignite #102 (i'll give u my email addy once we're on bnet!) Would people be objected to creating a list of Utah's players on the Starcraft blog? Does anyone look at the blog?
I look at the blog every day to see if there's any updates
I'm aikepah #331

Yea whoever does the blog, a section for player names // bnet ID's and like what city they live in, would be really cool. It would be especially helpful when hosting local lan parties.

I made a custom division for Utah players on SC2ranks.com, if someone can link this somehow to the blog thatd be cool, just let me know your username/# and I will add you to the division. Pretty cool to have a ladder page to keep tabs on everyone.

K, I added this link on the blog. Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a problem if I add all those names to the "Utah SC2 Players List" section of the blog w/ their character codes? I don't want to put someone's ID/code on the blog w/o their permission. Does anyone have suggestions for the blog or does anyone do graphics design that would be willing to make 2 or 3 different "Starcraft 2 Utah" banners to go across the top of the blog (to replace the giant "Starcraft II" banner that's on there now)?
Toyomaha, do you think we could integrate the ladder rankings onto the blog page? does blogger let you do that? Like make custom widgets and stuff? If they do then I could make a widget for it that shows the top 10 players or something and then you can click view all to go to the sc2ranks page.
Gavin can you please add: puresonance #580
@aike There is a spot for HTML/Javascript, so you could definitely add a ladder ranking widget if you know how to code them. I assume you're familiar with that stuff, so it would be cool to add some stuff like that on the blog.
Edit: K just heard back from the guy who made SC2Ranks, he gave me some info on custom divisions for the API so I can start working on a little javascript widget that will pull all this info for the Utah division into it Will take a little time to get all the images and everything loaded over but I should have something to test on the blog tomorrow!
Also, Gavin I just noticed something there is www.sc2ranks.com/c/314/ AND www.sc2ranks.com/c/348 both are Utah divisions and 348 has more players in it. Are these both yours? Or did somebody else make one too?
I have been defeated! Javascript wont let me use XML from another website. Aike needs access to PHP to make this work! if I still had my webserver I could do this and then have it create an image (Like those SC2 profile sigs that have stats and stuff from your profile) Donations?!?! ;D haha Then we could even create SCUtah.com or some such, host the blog on our own server instead of on blogger. Sigh... I get paid in a few days maybe I'll pay for some hosting or something. bleh.
You can go ahead and put my Character code with my name in the blog -- azerbaijan #194
How much would it cost to host a website?
it's like $3.50 a month for hosting + 2 domains, but I have to buy like 6 months at a time so it's like $21 every 6 months. Pretty cheap.
I've currently got www.starcraftutah.com bought, but I have no clue how to do websites. So, unless someone else knows how to design an awesome website, I'll just keep this on reserved.
Toyomaha do you have hosting along with the domain? Or do you just own the domain? I'm no designer but I can still through together a good looking site just without all the amazing graphics, but it would still look pretty pro until we could find a designer.
I don't have any hosting yet for the site, just the domain name reserved.
Would anyone be interested in like a "Friday Night Fight Night" before the big tournament on Saturday? Just like a single elimination bo3 online tournament. We could use the teamliquid vent server as a way of organizing or announcing matches and I could get a livestream going for everyone to watch. Just wondering if anyone would be interested?
Sure why not! I was planning on 'lanning' with a few friends on friday night so we could all play
well im down for a little friday night tournament :D count me in.
The earliest I could do it is 9:00 p.m. Is that too late for people?
The Friday Night mini tournament has been announced on the blog. Please sign up! No prizes, just a friendly blood bath.
Fun stuff, wish more people came though You can add me to the blog list; tehPyro #179 GL at Versus today guys! btw one of my friends is a gosu at web stuff if you want to talk to him about starcraftutah.com or something. I'm blown away by him, as were all our teachers in school. (aike, i'm a toss player and need pvz practice! then again i need practice in every matchup, so lets do it)
Congrats to the top 3 who won the tournament at Versus:
1 - OnEmOrEtRy 2 - BloodyWave 3 - BRoll
Completed brackets and the official point system to come (check out the blog for an update coming soon - hopefully).
Grats to the winners and thanks to everyone that came!
It was my first ever lan and I had a great time. Anyone know if there is a way we can get our hands on the replays? I would like to see the finals if possible; I wasn't able to stay until the end.
Thanks to everyone who showed up it was so much fun! I dont know if Replays were saved. I am getting a replay pack together for the people who asked me.
Ya BRoll, hit me up with some rep packs. All my matchups were pvp, which is not my most favorite. So, if you can, PM me or send me a link to your protoss reps. Overall though, the top 3 were T, Z, P, so pretty balanced I'd guess.

I'm in Salt Lake... Is this still happening? The OP seems a bit wishy washy.
I don't want to RSVP so far ahead of time, you never know what could happen. Still, I'll almost certainly do so as the time draws nearer. Would be nice to get some more solid details

I heard they were going to try and do it every month, but January is nearly over and no word yet. Hopefully sometime in the future. We should get an online tournament going or something? Anyone interested?

There is something but I'm not sure how many people we can fit and it's not at my place so I can't say much about it unless he's ok with it. But there was supposed to be a LAN last friday, but got canceled, possibly one this friday but not a very big one. Next big LAN isn't too far out though if everything people are planning turns out happening. I can also try to talk to the Halo club or w/e it is at UVU and see if we can get them to get a LAN setup in their name at UVU, we could just use one of the rooms and BYOC or possibly one of the labs.
Just wanted everyone to know that there is a BYOC tournament this coming Saturday, March 12 2011 @ 1:00. For more details check out www.starcraftutah.blogspot.com
I believe there will be live casting and all entry fee $ will go to the winners.
Also don't forget about the UVU LAN on the 31st! It's only $2 to play and $2 for the tourney! This includes food!! There will be a cash prize as well as a blizzcon statue thing for first and we will be using UVU's computers, so you only need to bring your own mouse/keyboard/headset if you want something better than what they have Everybody should come!!
So many tourneys this month! :D
