Mckay, all SC tournaments of any note are 2/3 rounds. Keep in mind that most games only go 8-10 minutes.
Toyo and Jasen.. I also called GamerzFunk and was referred to the owner who has as of yet to respond to my email. The Versus location sounds pretty ideal so long as they have an area we can set up for BYOC and game it up for the night following the conclusion tournament. I am however concerned about SLC people showing up to a Provo area LAN. I'll come and I'll even car pool a few people as I am likely the oldest guy posting (mid twenties, already graduated from college).
Though the best LAN's I have been to typically happen at a privately owned location and following any tournaments is a night of gaming, bbq, and drinking Wish there was a location in SLC available for that.

I probably got you beat (26, graduated from college, married, 1 kid)!!!

Haha cazter, I doubt you'll get a lot of people to drink at these events Regardless, some sort of afterparty would be pretty fun. What do people think of playing games other than SC and SC2? I <3 Counter Strike, and would love to see it played as well. Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I know *most* games last less than 20, but you know that with 60 random people, there's bound to be a couple of turtlers who make their games last forever. I don't think this will be a problem in the later rounds, but I think that in the early rounds it's not unfeasable for a BO3 round to take 3 hours.
I'm thinking I'll amend it to all BO3 rounds, but that if rounds go too long, I will call them for time.

Sounds good, I really like the idea of all phases having BO3, and a timer to stop extra long games sounds just fine.

That banner is horrible, did you mspaint it? xD
Good luck on getting an event going though! ^^

The tournament as it looks now would be at Versus Gaming on May 29(unless we can come up with a different location) We would like to have a 1v1 double elimination tournament as well as a 2v2 tournament. Versus gaming has offered to close their doors so that we have all day long to play(until 2am). If you get out of the tournament you will be able to play games with friends or even non-SC2 games. This being an all day event the cost would be about $15 per person. We are still working on the prize pool but i would like to know if you would like a bigger prize pool or pizza during the tournament.
Poll: Are you coming to this event?Yes! (16) 89% NO. (1) 6% Location needs to change. (1) 6% 18 total votes Your vote: Are you coming to this event? (Vote): Yes! (Vote): NO. (Vote): Location needs to change.

I voted "location needs to change," but I'll show up regardless

i noticed that a few days before this thread was created there was one for the bay area and they are having theirs at a place just like us.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=122772 it look very similar to what we are doing. they charge 3$ per tournament you enter that is one way to get a big prize pool. the pizza looks popular

I stopped by Versus Gaming today, since I was in Provo anyway. Great venue, lots of computers, the guy (Shane) that was managing it was very nice. He said that they wanted to do a SC2 tournament anyway, so we could either let them take care of the planning and just pay $15, or we can continue trying to do our own. Up to you guys.

to the denmark hater: i think its pretty good considering I was laying down in bed and not using a mouse.
i will update the first post with more peoples user names when im off work later.

We should change the date! That is memorial weekend!

Hey guys - any of you SLC gamers previous P42 goers? I haven't seen the Protocol 42 website up in a while... I used to go to those LANs every month, I am from Idaho though, the only Idahoan that went
Name was Eric Stone on the P42 forums, any of you out there? (of the night) guys?
|
Dang, I didn't know it was memorial day weekend. I know I'm going to a bbq and a pool party then >_> Seriously hope that I can do both.
|
stoneric I used to go to P42 last year for Street fighter tournaments and I think they shut down
|
I wish I could attend more LANs down there in SLC, but I moved to Boise now, too far away. I used to go to P42 every month when it was a monthly event. Hope there are some more ex-P42'ers around!
|
I'd be totally willing to go to this, if my schedule will allow. I've really only played LANs for BW/WC3 with my friends from high school, so this would be pretty awesome. I could probably get 5-6 people to come as well...
Sadly, I don't have the beta, but I'm on normal SC/ICCup, i.d. Battleship789, of course.
|
@Battleship. Even if you don't have SC2 you should still come. There will be plenty of computers there and people will more than likely let you play on their account. There will be other games on the computers and I'm sure BW or WC3 is on there.
