EDIT (March 12, 11:50 PM Local):- After tournament food has been decided and it looks like we're going to eat at the Korean restaurant.
- There is a pizza place beside The Node so you can get your food from there (but drinks must be from The Node).
- Botwin, Phayze, HobbitGotGame and DuGi3 did not meet up with me at the University of Calgary (I was there all day till 5:30 PM) so you 3 will have to pay the $20 at door fee.
- Please remember to bring $20 extra if you are planning to go eat dinner.
- Also remember that the tournament starts at 2:30 PM and the center will be open at 2:00 PM for the players.

Welcome to the StarCraftMecca LAN Tournament informational post. Aside from the usual tournament events that take place, the StarCraftMecca LAN Tournament will also be allowing entrants to get a taste of the StarCraft II Beta while waiting for their next match.* Also StarCraftMecca is proud to present that the tournament is officially sponsored by the Korean Pro Gaming team, CJ Entus. CJ Entus will be offering their merchandise as a prize for this years tournament.
StarCraft II Beta Notice: Please take note
* Please note that I could only book 16 computers and once computers free up, only then, will people be able to play StarCraft II Beta. During the Round of 32 and beginning of the Round of 16 people will NOT be able to play because all the computers will be occupied. Nearing the end of the Round of 16 and on, players will take turns playing StarCraft II Beta due to the fact that only a few keys will be available. This means that after 2 or so games you will be asked to let someone else play the StarCraft II Beta.

For food, there are 2 options. First, we can either watch the CJ Entus vs Air Force Ace game at The Node and then go out to eat chicken wings at Bubble Mania after (since they are open till 2:00 AM). Or, we can not watch the games and go out to eat at a Korean restaurant around 10:00 PM (few places will already be closed by then). We will most likely decide this when we are at the tournament but I will be booking a reservation for 16 at every location I can think of. ^^

No your friend does not have to pay the entry fee. However, that being said he most likely won't get a chance to play the Beta since the people who entered the tournament get priority over those that didn't.

whoa whoa whoa are we still going for korean food after? i've come to the conclusion there is literally no good korean food in calgary.
don day's gamjangtang is good but everything else sucks.
bow bulgogi house is good but expensive and has only the stuff that appeals to white people (chapchae, bulgogi, bad la galbi, etc.)
seoul is good for bbq but sucks for other stuff and is expensive
there's some place on 37th st and 26th ave that has good noodles but its mostly chinese.
apparently the place on 10th ave near 14th street (beside arirang) is okay but ive only had one dish there (one of my first korean dinners) and i really didnt like it but i should give it another chance i guess.
edit: i want a spot i can just bust in, chugiyo, and have some jjigae or something and kimbap in front of me in 5 minutes. does this place exist?

You are NOT allowed to bring your own computer to connect to the network because it is a closed network. And as far as the alcohol goes, we cannot drink at Node Gaming because we only have half the place rented out.

I'll definitely try to make it to the lan, but I have an exam the following week so I don't know if I will need to study more. The nickname was from a long time ago. I needed a quick nickname to test out a MUD, and came up with that. It's stuck ever since.

Well i know the campus really well so I don't mind @ all. It also isn't very hard to get there from my plce. However, i am already driving Gao Xi home. So i can give u a ride there if you'd like, and I don't mind driving u back either but you guys would have to fight about who goes home first/last.

Don-Day - Reserved seating for ~20 at 11:00 PM
Bubble Mania - Reserved seating for ~20 at 11:30 PM (We have until 11:45 PM latest to get there)
Also updated the list of confirmed players and we have 31 registered right now and 1 more entrant would be a perfect 32 so that we start the tournament as planned. As for food, we will decide around 5:00 PM that day on where we want to go (so that I can give the places an advance notice on how many exactly and when) and I think that's everything.

Actually theres roughly 2 people that still have yet to sign up + your friends = ~ 36 entrants. Guess we'll have to start with Ro36 instead of Ro32. Shouldn't be too much of a difference though.

The tournament seating has been filled at 32 entrants! However, I will allow for 4 more entrants if required. Instead of the Round Robin (8 groups of 4 with 2 advancing from each) if we get 36 players then I will have to figure out another way to sort out the groups.
Let me know by PM if you have any questions, or you can also post a reply on here and I'll answer it as soon as I can.

I'd do a modified MSL style. 4 groups of 8, double elim. Top 2 advance to Ro8 where single elim starts.
Still, that's a shitload of games. I'm not sure how we'll finish if we do any sort of group play.

If a crap load of people show up on the day of the LAN (to join the tournament) we might have some issues with available computers, BUT I can always work something out.

The map order is complicated so I will be explaining it at the tournament, but there is a set order to how the maps go regardless of who wins the previous match or who loses the previous match.

EDIT (March 12, 11:50 PM Local):- After tournament food has been decided and it looks like we're going to eat at the Korean restaurant.
- There is a pizza place beside The Node so you can get your food from there (but drinks must be from The Node).
- Botwin, Phayze, HobbitGotGame and DuGi3 did not meet up with me at the University of Calgary (I was there all day till 5:30 PM) so you 3 will have to pay the $20 at door fee.
- Please remember to bring $20 extra if you are planning to go eat dinner.
- Also remember that the tournament starts at 2:30 PM and the center will be open at 2:00 PM for the players.

Got to play SC2 for the first time. I was impressed by how crisp and fluid the micro seemed and totally thrown by how strange it was (for me, anyway) to adjust to the new macro mechanics. Still not used to MBS in the slightest; trying to use it actually makes my macro worse.

I actually liked that place a lot. Much more than the chinese hot pot, which I found quite flavorless.
Oh and you were right about Soju tasting like permanent marker, Chill. Cube seems to like it, but then he also enjoys discrete math and eating entire bowls of kimchi.

We found a new place. Korean BBQ and for around $15 it's pretty much infinite amount of meat (I went there the day after the tournament with my friend who came up from the states). It'll be the dinner place for the next tournament

Korean Village reopened somewhere in downtown. My aunt knows the owner, and so they're at like this really really korean place, where there's a bunch of other Korean shops nearby. Its like SW Downtown. Right now its called like Dae Jang Guem. #22 1324 10 Ave SW. They're open until 11PM everyday, I think.
