Sweet Boys vs Evil Corporation match.

Some video of the alleged incident (It's in russian, but it's very obvious that the dazzle is ignoring the magnus):
(Go to 8 min 55 seconds)

Supposedly the profits were something like 200k value in skins on vpgame, bet was for 14$k on who would get 10 kills first.

Both teams were acting oddly (some people were claiming BOTH teams were trying to throw the match intentionally), but a standin for EC presented his side on reddit :
Hey guys, my nickname is MaTa and ive played for EC in this match.
What actually happened? I got asked to stand-in for a game. I got told we gonna play against Sweet. Their captain(WhitePipo) is a known better in CIS, pretty sure some of you have seen a lot of complaints about him on reddit before. Ive met him once on LAN, he was actually a nice guy so i had him on my friendlist in steam. Right away when i was told we gonna play Sweet i PMed WhitePipo and asked him, if the game gonna be "real" or i should just refuse to play the game and go matchmaking instead, he said the game gonna be real.
the actual chat
[image loading]
ill not translate it myself, pretty sure someone gonna do it
So we played the first game of bo3, they played like absolute shit, and between game 1 and 2 we started talking about WhitePipo probably throwing this game. When the game 2 started they came with strong 3 heroes to our safelane, and basically started diving us every minute, getting dmg from tower and dying. Ive actually had to come from bot to top because they were diving like crazy, it was super suspicious. At this point we actually understood whats going on but werent 100% sure. When they made like 7 kills, they dived the tower once more, and their troll STOPPED his attack isntead of lasthitting me(he lasthitted me eventually with next hit), we started to laugh and scream like crazy. At this point it was clear as day they are trying to throw 10 kill bet, we decided to not let them make easy money.
When the score was 9-9 they tried to die on all lanes, our rubick had to lift them away from towers. When our mag finally fed the last kill, we had to take a pause just to laugh about this bullshit situation.
Later i was told they did bet over 12k USD on this game, and a lot of other stuff. The tournament is organised by WhitePipo and nikaril(or smth like that) and proly some other of their friends. Prize pool of the tournament is made from previous bets, and the only reason they made this tournament, is to make more money from future bets.
Why we did this? Id love to tell you we did this to "teach them a lesson", but we were jsut laughing and couldnt ressist fucking up their bet.
In previous reddit thered people understood our actions correctly, on other hand in CIS people are telling the we threw the game for skins.
Sorry for bad english, i tried my best to explain the situation.

Yeap. Esports betting, the scourge of esports that will eventually big a huge problem as time goes on.

People forget that esports betting is funding casting studios, all of them. Most teams as sponsors. Most major streamers as advertisers. Most tournaments as sponsors. And working with team owners who own betting websites as well to run their sites. If you want to know about the dark side of esports, all you need to do is follow where the money comes from for these prize pools outside Valve events.

yep. kind of sad

this is why people need banning for life when caught. deter as many people as possible, even though some will still do it.

I wish companies weren't allowed to offer stupid bets such as "first to x kills". first blood stuff. how many wides. how many throw-ins or corners.

you can 'match-fix', make hundreds of thousands of pounds, whilst still kind of attempting to win. it makes it so easy

in the uk we literally had a goalkeeper fired/nearly facing legal action because he decided to eat a pie during a match, when a betting company had offered bets on whether he would eat a pie. ludicrous.

rofl that actually happened? That's actually hilarious

Anyway, betting in esports sucks. Large scale rigging needs to be punished heavily. I think giving out second chances to some of the dumb young kids who made a few hundred bucks is fine though, but something this big is another story.

Do betting organizations fund tournaments or teams in mainstream sports? Seems like kind of an inherently broken system since as soon as someone in the betting org has a hand in managing a specific team there's an immediate conflict of interest already. Who knows if Valve would ever do anything about it though for fear of gutting their game's infrastructure.

It also seems like a problem since if tournament organizers/broadcasters/teams look to betting orgs for funding, that means they're reinforcing what's already a pretty insular ecosystem in esports, since the only people who use betting orgs are already immersed in the scene. I'd imagine it's hard to grow a scene much beyond its current size if all the money is coming from within.
Can someone please explain/how water falls with no rain?
