Unwinnable games exist, but they occur much more rarely than many people believe. A lot of people underestimate the impact a skilled player can have in a game.

Aditionally, unwinnable games should occur more frequently for your opponents, if you're truly better than your rating suggests. There are 9 players other than you in the game. 5 of them are on the other team. Thus the opposing team should have more "feeders" on average, assuming you're not one yourself.

Can someone explain to me why they would put AP as an option in Ranked MMR instead of AR? What happens in EVERY AP GAME IN RANKED THAT I HAVE PLAYED SINCE RANKED CAME OUT WHICH IS ROUGHLY 50 GAMES? The opponent team picks a stupid lineup that wins in 15-20 minutes due to a boring split push. Ranked doesn't prove shit other than congratz, you picked a cheese lineup while my friends wanted to play some fun heroes. Solo queue is seriously impossible to win. Somehow, I got queued with my soulmates in my 10 placement matches, and won like 8 games. Got a rating for 4100, figured that was pretty good. What happens next? I get teamed with the biggest retards known to mankind. I get an Enigma with me in one game, we face FIVE STUNS. Does he build a bkb? No, of course not. He builds a Bloodstone. I've had abandoners in like 10 games in my team of course, making me lose more points. I've had people just picking whatever the fuck they want regardless of lanes, resulting in three carries fighting for last hits on safelane. I'm about to give up.

except valve has said that they make matches so that both sides have a 50% chance to win. If you're the best player in a game, that means the average of the skill levels of your allies will be lower than the average of the skill levels of the enemies. In other words you have to carry shitters that are more shit than the enemy shitters.

If you believe Valve is actually always matching you with people worse than you, you must also ignore when they say both sides have a 50% chance to win. They also say they try to match balanced teams. Otherwise you must believe that the system intentionally gives you worse teammates while making a balanced team for the oponents. Just because Valve personally hates you.

The idea that you are better than your rating suggest implies Valve doesn't know you are better than you allies. Meaning it matches your "undeserved" shit MMR with other shit MMRs and against a team with shit MMR. If they had known you are a better player than the rest, your MMR would also be higher.

Um, you realize all valve does is add up the mmr on each team such that they are near eachother, right?

This is a great thread. And honestly teammates item builds arent even the least of my troubles solo-queueing in pubs. Usually i know we have lost almost as soon as the game starts because of the asinine picks (for example 3 weeks ago my team consisted of a clinkz bloodseeker AM an slark before i had even picked [naturally i picked sniper and went offlane]). I dont even risk not picking a support solo anymore because i know everyone else is going to pick a mid or a carry

Why do I get the feeling that every teammate of mind tries out a new hero everytime we play ranked? It's like they don't know what to do. I had a Furion go offlane solo, and he got his Gloves of haste first. Yes, that works, but not if you go offlane. He ended with 1-15 because he kept dying. Now, I had a pretty good draft, but people decided to play heroes they never played before.

Nope.

Taken from the matchmaking blog post:

"The ultimate goal of automated matchmaking in Dota 2 is for players to enjoy the game. The matchmaker seeks matches with the following properties (listed in no particular order):

1. The teams are balanced. (Each team has a 50% chance to win.)
2. The discrepancy in skill between the most and least skilled player in the match is minimized. This is related to team balance, but not the same thing.
3. The discrepancy between experience (measured by the number of games played) between the least experienced player and the most experienced player is minimized. More on this below.
4. The highest skill Radiant player should be close to the same skill as the highest skill Dire player.
5. Each team contains about the same number of parties. For example, the matchmaker tries to avoid matching a party of 5 against against 5 individual players.
6. Players’ language preferences contains a common language. Lack of a common language among teammates’ language preferences is strongly avoided. Lack of a common language across the whole match is also avoided, but less strongly.
7. Wait times shouldn’t be too long."

Please don't put words in my mouth and make me sound like a retard. I said that if you're the best player in a game, that means you're getting paired with people who are on average worse than the people on the enemy team. Never did I say that valve always matches me with people worse than me. The likelihood of this, though, does increase, as your skill rises.
You seem to be under the assumption that you get paired with people with near similar rating (within 50-100 range). This isn't true.

i actually had to go offlane solo with gloves of haste first.

why, you might ask? because wraith king insisted on jungling. so i was stuck with no stats vs a slark/cm dual lane. great. i actually managed to get more farm than my bottom lane somehow so i at least had that.

but the last 10ish games have been fucking stupid as all hell for me. niell velasquez (actual steam name) from peru DC's at the beginning and comes back to pick PA and lane with me, weaver. what the fuck.

i seriously do not understand matchmaking. 3300 ranked MMR is pretty decent. my unranked games pair me up with people who do not feel like they are even CLOSE to that level of play good god.

I'm on PL. One of the other members of my team is on Morphling. The other team's hardest carry is Slark.

So why...WHY...is Clockwerk CONSTANTLY yelling "OMG WE NEED TO GROUP UP AND GO PUSH; WE NEED TO BE 5; WE NEED TO ATTACK".

No...we...don't. Let me quietly farm away and don't die and I'll single-handedly smash entire lanes for you. Let Morph farm up and he'll provide a solid enough core for you to 4v5 around. They've got two sources of magic damage (one being Zeus) and a Broodmother. If you get a couple of BKBs and a solid Morphling then we can potentially take two lanes at once. At the very least we'll get one lane and an even trade in the other.

But nooooo. Yelling for teamfights, constantly pushing everyone to group up. Nobody buys BKB (of course). Dazzle gets constantly caught out of position. Horrible, horrible teamfight after teamfight where the cogs block us out from doing any damage. Then its gg...when I'm sitting on diffusal heart yasha as PL...

Why in the name of the gods do people insist that 5-man is the only way to play? And how is it people don't learn to recognise when one team has a clear carry advantage that will guarantee the win if they'd just shut the hell up and play it slowly?

In fairness in part it was my fault. I should have just flat out ignored him and gone off to push. Problem is its really hard to solo push if nobody is pressuring anywhere else on the map. They all just come and kill you.
