Played this insanely long ass game of random draft that we should have won but lost. It started with me (clockwerk) and CM safelane against doom and veno. Veno instant runs at us and hits me with gale, i backed up a bit cuz i knew it was coming and only had flare anyway. CM frostbites him and i flare him, but it's just barely not enough and he escaped. CM starts flaming me for "backing up" and not fighting. I'm sorry that slowed melee heroes can't catch unslowed ranged heroes? She proceeds to pick a variety of other stupid ass engagements that net us losing the lane and giving veno a lot of kills.

Eventually we start getting some smart rotations, my friends hard lane broodmother-silencer duo net plenty of kills, and the drow mid understood where to go to get kills with what runes and we even the game out and actually net a tower lead.
This CM had nothing but phase boots by the time laning broke down and nobody was buying support items (I'll QQ more about that later), and their Doom was gigantic. Their timbersaw was sneaky, their veno had shadowblade so a squishy free kill turned into an elusive pain in the ass with an EYE OF FUCKING SKADI BECAUSE CM AND DROW FUCKING LOVED RUNNING AROUND THE MAP WITHOUT VISION AND FEEDING.

The game goes laaaaaaaate, late enough that I recover from my awful start and start landing Bulba-esque hooks, and silencer has like 60 points of stolen intelligence. We take rosh and take mid rax, awesome. Drow has a MoM and Desolator, meaning she wasted 5k on a desolator that did nothing, but things looked up. They only had T3 top and bot, we had t3 top and t2 mid and bot (we were dire). We literally cannot get close to each other's rax the rest of the game. We had so many amazing back and forth teamfights, either with us dying trying to push a sidelane or them dying trying to push down our t2 mid. In one particularly ugly fight in radiant jungle, we trade me(clock) drow and CM for Lina tusk, with veno having to back and Doom being caught in cogs long enough to let silencer escape. During this, brood takes t4's before doom and timber tp back. We still can't muster another big push though.

Farming continues, more neck and neck battles explode everywhere, CM and Drow's stupidity countered by the dickishness of silencers glaives and my Bulba senses. Another fight happens at their old mid rax, we trade 2 for 2 but we can't commit past their t4's and they know they can't stay and fight, so we both have to back. Rosh wakes back up and Drow goes to kill with MoM. The enemy is pushing mid, we are concerned that they might find us, but Rosh goes down right before they start walking to check. I get ready to hook a target, Silencer is ready to hex doom, and...

Doesn't matter, we initiate and get an amazing fight. Hook catches Doom and Veno, hex on doom plus CM ulti brings them down, Silencer keeps them from running, Brood and Tusk manfight (ie Tusk bites off way more than he can chew and dies), and I land another Bulba-hook and catch Lina while she's retreating. The reason we won the fight? Timbersaw was taking our t3 top. Broodmother and I say during the tail end of the fight, while we're killing Lina in the cogs, that Brood will go stop Timber from taking tower while the rest of us rush the ancient and win while they're all down for 60+ seconds.
And then everyone but me tp's top.

And since it's a timbersaw, he just timberchains around our jungle while our stupid ass team tries to kill him. Everyone gets to the t2 mid by the time their whole team is up. Our one chance to win the game wasted because retards wanted to run around a jungle 4v1ing an elusive bastard instead of winning. And since the Aegis is on CM, looks like we have to wait for an overextension or for me to get a heart or something. Brood and I die inside as we tell the team to back. Brood and I go top, wondering if we can split push a bit and force them to turtle or something. Until Drow CM and Silencer rush blindly up the hill into their team and die instantly. It was a formality from there. I tried to get cogs to stop them, I buy back and try again, but Brood and I can't stop a 5 man team that late. They storm mid lane, get t2 and t3 an rax because why on earth would anyone on our team save for buyback? And then they win. That game was ours. And we blew it because of a group of people actively decided to pick the worst option and because of an asshole support.

I fucking hate Dota MMR. It feels like no matter how well you play or how smart your team is or what the team compositions are, the MMR has preordained whether you will win or lose. If it were putting two teams of equal skill against each other and letting the variables of the game itself determine a winner that'd be fine. But this is just "Well, you won your last game where their whole team played like ass and we put a guy with internet connection issues on their team? Better put you on a team with the world's worst CM! An even fair game? Pff, where do you expect us to find 10 equally skilled players out of a pool of a meager 6-7 million players?"

I love supporting. It's probably what I'm best at. I love landing big illuminates right before the enemy team dives your tower, or hexing the hard carry while your carry jumps on them, or getting into the first teamfight and watching your lane partner dominate because you were willing to roam and put wards and wait patiently in the jungle to stack so they could get xp and last hits. But I'd like to play other roles. I want to enjoy the fun of a highly skilled solo mid matchup, or play farmville until I can wipe a team on my own, or land a big flashy teamfight ultimate that changes the tide of the battle in a very noticable way. But whenever I get that role, nobody supports. Nobody buys wards, nobody ups courier, nobody buys sentires or dust or tries to control the lane. I'm a competitive guy, I can accept losing, but I am not ok with losing because a KotL or CM was stealing last hits to get a butterfly or some stupid bullshit.

It feels like "If I don't support, nobody will", and I just pick support every game until I'm bored and dreams of getting a kill streak are too cruel to think of.

I used to love support, but now I feel like I'm trapped into it, and I feel like I have to choose between having an enjoyable hero and getting smashed or playing a boring role with no respect or recognition and possibly winning
