I can never believe it when your own team unpauses. I had a brief minor emergency pop up during a game. Asked for a pause and hit the button. Went away. Two or three minutes tops and dealt with it. Came back...one of my own team had hit unpause and we'd lost a fight in the meantime.
Seriously...I can understand it if people pause and just say nothing, you have no idea whats going on. And I can even understand the other team wanting to be a bit dickish and play the "pause/unpause" fighting game with your team.
But why the hell would you want to screw over your OWN TEAM by unpausing when they're not there unless its been like...5-10 minutes with no word? Because fuck pauses. Every. Single. Game. It feels like someone needs to pause, most of the time for something stupid (teammate didnt pick a hero, pause plz). I unpause no matter what team im on . Yea its sorta douchy to people who have a legitimate unforseen reason but whatever. I'm impatient and 99% of the time its shit that should have taken care of before queuing up. Yeah, being an grown ass adult and having a girlfriend who lives with me, you are pretty much the Duke of DoucheLand. If she needs to ask me a question or is leaving, I will pause the game for 30 seconds to a minute to say goodbye or answer the question. And sometimes shit happens. Other people have lives, wives, children and all sorts of other things. A bit of a douche and if you were on my team and did that, I might forget to buy wards a couple times in response. But, lucky for me, I only play in 5 man stacks. Yes because unpausing means I dont have a girlfriend and Im not an adult. Are you one of those people who thinks unpausing is reportable under ability abuse? Its not anyone's obligation to wait for ur stuff. I dont expect 9 other people to wait because my gf calls me. Its a courtesy, not something ur entitled to Exactly, its a courtesy that we give fellow players out of respect and understanding that unexpected things come up and we want everyone to have a good game. Its a nice thing to do. And I assume because you are unwilling to do it for me that you do not respect me and feel no need to be nice. So in return, I will treat you in kind. You are freely entitled to be a dick and I will never report you for it. However, I will treat you like the dick that you are. Life is hard like that. and I consider it courtesy for other people not to waste my time with their personal things. I don't unpause for everything. If someone says "sec, shop's bugged I need to restart" then obviously I'll wait, but "sec, my gf wants a goodbye kiss" or "sec, pizza guy's here" isn't a good enough reason for me. I really don't understand impatient people who play dota. Dota is, by definition, a game requiring patience. For goodness' sakes, if you die at a high level you can end up spending whole minutes on the sideline. If you can't wait a couple of extra minutes at the start, you might want to reconsider your preferred genre. I play dota because it's fun. In game moments requiring patience and passivity are part of the game. Waiting for people's random shit isn't fun, and that sort of patience isn't part of the game. Yeah, waiting around for a minute or two so someone can take care of something unexpected is just part of real life. Its not fun, but we sometimes have to do not fun stuff in life for a minute because we are nice people. Its called being a polite adult, not a self important man-child. What do you think people do when they play pick up basket ball and one of their girlfriends or children needs to talk for a minute? Keep on playing and throw the ball at the back of the guy’s head until he plays? Seriously, this discussion is tired. Nothing your saying is incorrect, its just childish. There is no way in person that you would just charge ahead if someone said “Can you please wait a minute? I have to do BLANK.” But through the internet, where at the other end can do nothing, of course you act like it all about you and your fun. So you are entitled to do it, but it still makes you an asshole. I consider someone who feels they're entitled to make 9 other people wait because of their personal stuff a "self important man-child". You said yourself people treat you how you act, so there you go. 1 minute isn't gonna change much in a pub game, just do whatever you need to and deal with it. I bet you also let the elevator door close when people are running and asking you to hold it, because they shouldn't feel so self important to make you and the 4 other people in the elevator. Or you just stand there people say excuse me, because why should you have to move over when they can just figure out their way around you. Or at dinner when someone asks you to pass the rolls and you say "No, I am eating, get them yourself." As I said before, a special place in hell for people like that, right next to people who talk in the theater. Your examples are completely exaggerated. This is closer to a person pressing the elevator button, and when it arrives telling the 9 people on the elevator to hold it open for 2 minutes and wait so you can answer a phone call. I'd tell them to wait for the next damn elevator.
That is such a fucking bullshit analogy.
A phonecall doesn't prevent you from riding in an elevator. There are many things that you cannot do while playing Dota. An elevator ride takes less than a minute. A Dota game takes up to an hour or more so the likelihood of something you can't ignore coming up is far higher.
Don't have the nerve to call somebody else's examples exaggerated then spout trash like that.

I just had a game where we had Shadow Demon and OD on our team.. The whole game they are constantly disrupting and imprisoning people we find to pick off... It's like 3v1 and we have them surrounded. I was slark so I had pounce... As soon as I pounce and we crash on the opponent hero, they disrupt/imprison and we're just waiting till they come out... Then a super farmed CK comes to kill 2 of us at least... Towards the end, they were trying to take high ground on to get a second set of rax and we won the team fight and were starting to chase the living heroes out of our base... And at the same time the lane we had lost rax was pushing hard into our t4 towers... I landed a pounce and was hitting the opponent (3 more hits and he would have died) and was planning on going back to base to defend towers... and lo and behold OD imprisons him for like 4 seconds and I'm just waiting for the opposing hero to come out... OD and SD never carried TPs and I had to buy wards/dust with the gyro... -__-

Lol ok. If you wanna nitpick then just change "answer a phone call" with something that prevents you from being on the elevator.
Someone being gone for a minute isn't going to dramatically alter the outcome of a pub game, yet some people act like the unpause just made them waste an hour. If you're gone long enough for it to dramatically alter the game's outcome, you're gone longer than people should reasonably be expected to wait for you imo.

Once again, the discussion isn’t about the outcome of the game. It about not being a douche You admitted it in your first post when you said it was a “little douchey” to unpause, it is not a nice or polite thing to do. You can justify it however you want, but its still a jerky thing to do.

Can you please have your ethics discussions about pausing in PMs or make a different thread.
It is really boring to read, and I'm here to feed on the tears of others whining.
|
Not a problem, I was pretty tired of it anyways.
As for your request to feed on the tears of others, I only played one day yesterday, but it was terrible. I partied up with a friend and his buddies and we got into random draft. I pick DS, because we needed an offlaner and fast mek. Then the next guy picks Wisp and we get life stealer too. It looks like a good start
5 minutes in, wisp has died twice and lifestealer has been bullied out of lane. I ask "Have you ever played wisp before?".
"No, but its a support. You buy ward, what else is there to know? We have lifestealer and batrider, so why does it matter? They are totally OP"
That game went just as well as you assume.
|
which is a shame because Wisp is one of the funnest supports in the game
|
Last time people commended me for my support play was when I fed a Breaker of Spirits on single draft Wisp to a point where I lost interest to the match and just spent all my money and effort on some basic warding. Luckily we had 3 Necro/Luna/Spectre for late game while they had Breaker of Spirits and we won in the end, both my ass and pride suffered in the process. Thats a 0-11-19 Wisp with zero ult ganks, but hey at least I warded.
Meanwhile I get nothing when I do game winning 5 man RP's on Rubick.
|
took like 20 minutes to finally start a game. All random match, but for once both teams got a pretty good lineup. Not amazing, but good. 10-7 in our favor, suddenly one player on the other team goes "gg ff noob team"
I spent the next 15 minutes trying to make him keep playing and not give up, but from that point on he just picked the dumbest engagements possible and would go "SEE?" every time he would die. Yeah, because diving 2 people under a tower at 10 minutes as Zeus is a good idea...
|
AA: Let's tri top. Me: We'll need sents then. Lesh: (Gets 2 sents). --- 1 min. later: AA: someone should pull. Lesh: its blocked Me-> clicks on lesh's inventory: 2 sentries. Lesh proceeds to auto-attack lane then feed fb.
|
Axe wants safelane farm. Axe finally gets convinced by a 4stack to go jungle. Axe single pulls till the tower is dead. Axe feeds. Axe autoattacks in lane. Axe is Russian. What a shock.

Zeus mid, loses against a void with hatchet that rush midas. Yep legit 100%. Meanwhile i'm 8-2 with bristleback on hardlane but ursa getting fed top. I was a bit bitter so i started to flame zeusa little bit (nothing to bad, something like "how can you lose vs void mid"), then after a few moment i realized that zeus was the guy i was stacking with :D.
To be fair they had treant and zeus is not exactly the best mid... still it's frustrating when you dominate your lane but realize you cannot do anything to win the game.
|
I was Rikki and had safe lane. Me and Lesh against a Brood. Okay, we can do this. I ask him to buy wards. Response: "No u". Okay. Our offlane dies 5 times before night, mid Silencer loses to Slardar and Lesh is solo killed twice before finally buying wards. Game was 10 to 0 against us. Not a single fuck given anymore. Go midas. Apparently I threw the game because I didn't use smoke on brood. Through the mics, the distinct twang of Russian Lesh still haunts my dreams. For I was the SA who lost the game. I liked at the end of the game enemy Weaver and Omni just lol when they're supposed to report me, with half our team's kills. Game was hard.

Just realized that mexican's are the russians of america ?!

ap "very high", what a joke. There is no good bracket in dota, there is 1 ok player out of 10.
enemy pick nightstalker, I go with kunka, my kunka fucking owns. teammate picks zeus, says no word all match, goes mid (or maybe the only word he said was mid, I cannot remember) anyway I told him that I want to win, that he will lose mid and feed, that we will get ganked nonstop and lose the game. He proceeded to run mid (to the tier1 tower), I stood at the tier 2 to block the creeps and tried to convince him that he's going to lose mid, and I will do much better, anyway.
nightstalker went had more than 20 kills, a ultrakill, (everyone but me ofc..) and yeah. I don't understand why players like that much exist, go mid say not a single word, pick a hero that will surely fail against the enmy mid hero and destory the game for all other players.
very high lvl doto, thx valvo, disband all.
edit: I think I had enough of this game. living in vienna, it's to close to the russ servers too. The only way you can play dota while keeping your sanity is if you really don't care at all if you win or lose, but since I usually play to win I don't see a point in playing anymore.

Played game tonight with friends.. (3 stack). 4 games, 4 loses, they fed in every single one of them, wonYeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Even op breaker failed me when i tried to win that 'one last game because we can't finish on a loss"
