We have mega creeps, enemy ancient at 36 hp... and steam goes down for maintenance and the game vanishes.
Little bit mad.

Issues like these come up ocasionally in this thread and I have to ask, does it really matter?
You won that game, the only thing you didn't get was the green icon on your match history. The game has no ladder or anything where your wins would matter and other people can't even see your losses. I don't know, I never really worried about wether Dota actually tracked the win or not, but a lot of people do. I never really understood why. Maybe it had to do with being used to everyone just leaving the game in Dota 1 when it had too many leavers or the game went to shit anyway for some other reason. Some times fairly early on.
It's diferent when the game crashes when you are on a winning position, because you can't say if you would really have won that, but in cases like this it's a clear win.
|
Good point, I should just disconnect every time I'm winning a game because it doesn't really matter.
Alternatively, I can take personal pride in both my winrate and MMR, ladder or no.

I personally like winning and moving up in MMR and having harder opponents. Having a computer issue or having a server crash when i'm winning or about to win is super lame

Putting aside the fact that winning gives higher mmr, and therefore (in theory) better enemies and teammates, its physiological more than anything. If someone came up to you with a piece of candy and went "do you want it? Do you want it? Well you can't have it!" its way more hurtful than it simply never having existed in the first place.
Humans are very competitive. And even in the situations where you can go "In normal circumstances I would have won", it still sucks to have something tell you that actually, you lost.

One crash every hundred games will hardly affect your MMR or even your winrate. There's a huge diference between one random game not counting and disconnecting all the time.
Also, losing games you should have won is actually one of the easier ways to inflate your winrate, since it makes the system underestimate your skill.

My issue was that you still have the candy. You won the game, the satisfaction should still be there. The only diference is the system doesn't know it. I'm not saying it's better, or even not worse than the game ending normally, but a lot of people act like it's a big deal when for me it's very low in the list of annoyances you can get playing Dota.

The back of your brain still counts it as a loss, even though you know you would have won. Thats the difference. You can't rationalize these things.

Single Draft. Not a single person on our team has a solid core besides me so I end up on carry Lycan...who I'm terrible at. Eh, whatever. Other team gets three cores in Antimage, Drow and Lifestealer.
End up safelane with Bane. A Bane contesting me for last hits, randomly attacking creeps, never denying and a couple of minutes in tells me to go pull (after the lane is pushed to hell). Bonus points for the fact I'm up against Drow and Lich in lane, keeping the lane even MORE pushed as well as having two ranged to completely wreck me.
After getting my throat torn out because I'm having to be right by their tower I've managed to limp my way to level 3 so I can jungle with level 2 wolves.
Drow and Lich come after me in the jungle. No wards of course. Nice SS call when they're actually killing me.
Bleeding from terrible wounds now I drag myself up to treads, medallion and Vlads. Great, I can rosh now.
I take Rosh. And the Aegis. NONE of my team anywhere nearby nor any vision on the enemy nor any pressure elsewhere to distract them. Great work guys. Other team comes from literally every direction and then the rest of my team decide to feed themselves into the slaughter one by one.
Fast forward, I'm desparately trying to farm up so I can somehow manfight 2v1 against Lifestealer and Antimage. Skywrath does a good job nuking down Drow but nobody has wards or dust...ever. So she gets away a lot.
We manage to kill a few of them. Cool. The other three guys alive can take their mid tower whilst I Rosh. Instead Sand King comes to help Rosh...which I don't need. I tell him to take the tower. They take the tower and...BACK OFF TO OUR SIDE OF THE RIVER. Whole enemy team comes in to pile on me, steal the Rosh and my team's response is "lol you said push".
I swear...just...I cannot BELIEVE these people. -_-

Everytime I have 4 friends and we go into matchmaking, one of us will say this sentence: "Alright guys, looks like we have capacity for one idiot." I'm beginning to think this brings bad mojo.
First time we got a self-proclaimed korean rikimaru, who does nothing except go invi and walk around the enemy team, never smoking. Unfortunately he picked first so we had built a team around supporting him (the only other semi-carry was a TA). He was so obviously a beginner to the game that there were no words; we just accepted it as bad luck.
Then we got a kunkka who fed 0-4 within the first 10 minutes. He then proceeded to flame all of us for being noobs.
Then we got a huskar who fed all game long, final score was 1-11 iirc. Luckily we won this game due to my Pugna doing well, as well as my friend's sick wellplayed spirit breaker.
Today we got a beastmaster who fed top 0-5 in the first 12 minutes. The fed heroes bought their support items (it was a tusk and veno) and went around roam ganking, and we couldnt do anything much to stop them due to our team having 3 carries. What's fucked up is that the enemy team contained 4 people at level 20+, and a level 40+. All of us aren't past level 15 yet. And the beastmaster we got was fucking level 2.
Sigh.

"Everytime I have 4 friends and we go into matchmaking"
How do you have capacity for one idiot when you + 4 friends = 5?
|
Honestly, I have no sympathy for 4 stacks. Playing as a +1 is about the worst experience dota offers. If you're that worried, find another friend.
It's also worth pointing out that if you're a 4-stack, the mm inflates your ratings to the point where the +1 should, in theory, be better than most of the individuals in the stack.
|
Playing as Timber, I tried to buy a perseverance with 1 item slot left (stout and vit booster in inventory), and it made me a Vanguard. Delayed my bloodstone by several minutes, and maybe cost us the game.

Shitty 4 stacks that group up to flame their matchmaking player are one of the worst things that can happen in this game.

Worst I've done is having casual Vit Booster and Stout shield on DS, then going to buy Hood and making a Vanguard instead.

Ooooh man. I hope you get matched with that guy again and fucking own him, lol. Nothing beats getting revenge on a trash talking douchebag! Especially when it's a stack.
My QQ: What's the point getting Aghanim's with Invoker if your apm is like 20 and you use tornado and cold snap only? Ok, he used deafening blast sometimes, but still...
And also, we actually won that game.

joined a 5 stack randomly cause i did really well and they invited me, so i do natures PROFIT jungle, cause these guys are...... not good
im doing well in jungle, as usual, cause dire jungling with np is stupid fast. go for a failed gank up top, but nothing bad happens with it, just no kill. Go back to farming, our bot is doing fine because there bloodseeker has been afk since the start of the game. so he hasnt died. Then top starts sucking shit in the 2v2 lane, and the dude thinks hes doing amazing, when i realize that the viper doesn't know how to fucking last hit, so the game is basically lost, because our mid(pudge) doesn't get anything done on the first night, he goes negative actually. Lets just put it like this, i alone have more cs than the entire rest of my team... at 25 minutes.... when the game ends..... and then the viper proceeds to blame me for not ganking enough, sorry that no one on the entire map ever set up good ganking opportunities. I ganked 3 times, each time resulted in a kill for the team. Not like it fucking matters viper, when at the end of the game you had an almighty 25 cs Mr Carry.

reminds me of an Invoker that went phase->Aghs but maxed Quas-Wex before putting a single point into Exort
good for you man, you can instantly switch between cold snap tornado emp and...ghost walk. That's 4 spells!

Start slow and max out two of them, keep the number of spells manageable you know? Everyone else only gets 4 spells after all. More fair that way.
