Please remember that while this thread is for QQ and venting about the game, racism is not tolerated here on LD. |
i just played a game direside with axe, sand king, luna juggernaut, i played crystal maiden... jugger writes "me top with luna or I feed"
guess who had to go mid vs weaver after starting with courier/observer/sentry/tango? and guess who had to buy every single ward of the game (that we lost, obviously)? and guess who was constantly whining about me loosing midlane? guess which tier 1 dire tower fell last?
god, sometimes is so hard to keep calm and have fun...

Some guy picks meepo last, asked if challenge, answered no. Died 17 times and we lost to the last push just after making their mega. "Any" other hero would win us the game. Any fucking other hero out of 100.

And I have a question, have you seen ANYONE improving in this game? like starting in 2k/3kmmr and going to like 4500? I would like to know how the hell they did it. Judging from the first paragraph, your attitudes shit. You can absolutely see how you improve in dota. If you're just venting I apologize. It you want actual advice, fix your attitude. Stop complaining about teammates, stop worrying about scores and MMR and just focus on improving aspects of your own play (positioning, map awareness, lane performance, farming, etc) I constantly see people giving this incredibly fallacious philosophy towards improving oneself. I'm sorry but there are literally games where going 700GPM+700XPM is insufficient because your teammates are utterly retarded. I don't know if any of the other 5k+ rating people here actually try playing at the 3k to 4k level (I mean a large sample of games with a large number of high level players not all on a team together) but this idea simply does not work in actual practice. When you start improving and focusing entirely on your own situation what happens is inevitably as you nitpick your own play you will become even more aware of the horrible decisions your teammates make. 5 carry teams when 2 carries have been picked since 1:59 left on the counter, an ursa that goes tranquil boots AND power treads AND phase boots because he thinks they stack and obviously I'm the n00b for pointing out that might not be best and finally a sniper that insists that he can take on a Witch Doctor + Mirana dual lane solo and how dare I try to support (he called it leeching) are all very common scenarios at this sort of tier. Teams simply do not stick together. 90% of the time the guys off running around getting killed solo because they get mobbed over on the enemy side of the map while the rest of the team is jungling instead of pushing don't even speak english and make things 50x worse because the moron can't even communicate much less actually play the game. These are not scenarios even people at the top pro level could possibly overcome. If you watched pro streams, these sorts of players buy accounts and end up at the higher MMRs too (I know from personal experience). I'm not saying don't look at your own problem first, but acting like that somehow overcomes the vast problem of "team is retarded therefore I lose no matter if I'm doing well" is utterly retarded. Logic and reasoning are the only real tools of strategic trade.
Hey man, sorry for the late reply. I agree with what you're saying, but it doesn't actually discredit my line of thinking. There will be games where your teammates are so terrible the game is beyond salvaging for anyone not named S4. I agree there, but that's not really the claim people are making when they complain about an MMR trench.
What I find completely stupid is the notion that this type of scenario ("I'm good but matched with 4 retards") happens consistently enough that you can't climb to your appropriate MMR. You see the difference? It's incredibly improbable that matchmaking conspires against one person in particular, so that every game that person's matched with 4 terrible people while 5 opposing players are worse than that one person but way better than the other four.
I've had games where I was beyond godlike but still lost because of clueless teammates. However I've also had games where feeders where on the other team, and games where I played horribly and got carried by teammates. You don't think it sounds incredibly deluded of me to think the first scenario is far more common than the rest??
It's just the nature of a 5v5 game that accurately calibrating individual MMRs takes a lot more games than it would for a 1v1 game like starcraft. There's far more variance to account for, but that's unavoidable.
Think of tossing a rigged coin that's supposed to land on heads 60% of the time. The first 10 tosses, you're expected to get 6 heads. However getting 5, 4 or even 3 heads isn't THAT unlikely. However, if we tossed this coin 1000 times, getting 400 or 300 heads would make us start questioning the coin, no?
If someone is truly better than the players he gets queued with, his team will have a higher probability of winning. Given that it's a 5v5 game, it's not too unlikely that this person ends up right where he started after 20 ranked games. Now, if they play 100-200 games and are STILL where they started, isn't the most logical conclusion that they're already playing vs people of equal skill?

solo queue into a reasonable stack and had a great game, but comp crashed and when i came back i had abandoned and I am "that guy".

This is a poor analogy because it only refers to a single variable(the one coin which can be represented as your skill level) without taking into account the other factors at work. Each game of Dota should really be looked at as its own coin, where your skill level(which we assume is higher than the average of your MMR) is taken into account each time, boosting each coin slightly in your favor. However, each coin is weighted differently in other ways based upon the other nine players in the game, the draft, and other factors.
Are your teammates in that one game bad enough to eliminate the advantage your higher than average skill creates? Are any of your opponents in the same spot, but with a higher average skill than you who overcome your natural advantage? Did your team draft well or poorly(this can decide a game even if one team's skill level is higher than the other)? Is someone on the opposing team actually a very high rated smurf who is way better than everyone else? Did someone abandon?
Yes, EVENTUALLY, your higher skill level will overcome all of this and your MMR will increase. But the insane amount of variance in just one game of dota(or potential coin) means that it could take months or maybe even longer for that to show in your MMR.

Oh, you're on a 7 lose streak? I see. I'll put you in a team with more retards. Thank me later.

Get tb for hero challenge, 3 games last night, 3 losses. How is that possible you ask? Because 5 carry strats are apparently legit...

Radiant - Axe, Doom (me for NC), Sniper, Queen of Pain, Mirana Dire - Nyx, Furion, Spiritbreaker, Naix, Pudge Problem - Sniper 1-8, then abandoned if he abandoned earlier you wouldve had a bigger chance probably, the 4v5 gold bonus is really nice. also why didnt you pick support with stun this game?
Radiant - Invoker, Earthshaker, Weaver, Phoenix, Mirana Dire - Lion, Doom, Juggernaut, Anti Mage, Dazzle (me for hard support) Problem - 3 carries, one of them Anti Mage
definitely winnable, especially if you sentry and dominate the weaver lane early. juggernaut istn really a lategame core, if he isnt getting early kills in pubs he's probably doing it wrong. lion jugg should've dominated wherever, if lion was mid, you prolly shoulda picked a stun for jugg lane. snowballing the jugg in the first 10 minutes is often a better way to guarantee farm for the antimage than babysitting antimage for the first 10 minutes
Radiant - Shadow Shaman, Anti Mage, Sniper, Tidehunter (me for offlane), Dazzle Dire - Stealth Assassin, Crystal Maiden, Bloodseeker, Ogre Magi, Tiny Problem - Anti Mage against SA and BS
honestly i think sniper pick is often more of a problem than am pick, especially when sniper doesnt snowball. i don't get the tide pick when your team has mediocre 5v5, you probably shoud've picked centaur or clock. rhasta and dazzle have little synergy but really its the cores' play that matters more at this mmr, especially after 15 minutes
Radiant - Weaver (me for carry), Timber, Naix, Bloodseeker, Vengeful Spirit Dire - Dragon Knight, Storm Spirit, Sand King, Witch Doctor, Centaur Warrunner Problem - Bloodseeker mid this one is probably the biggest pick-loss game, you guys only having stun on vs is pretty bad
i recommend picking centaur every single game, cuz he can go anywhere and he's the best

So finally someone realized its good to listen to teammates.
Mid Magnus goes for MoM, i tell him to buy a blink dagger instead: "Nono, me can rp without blink." rgr tht. 1st rp: misses. 2nd rp: only razor and then they teamwipe us. 3rd rp: misses. I tell him again to buy that goddamn blink dagger. "Okey, me buy blink for u, just for u."Then it goes like 20s after he buys blink. Blinks on sand king, pulls him to our tower and we kill him. 2 minutes later blink into 4 man rp. Teamwipe for us. Eventually we lost the game because lion decided its lunch time but we basicly got back into game coz i told him to buy blink dagger. pff.

my regular 5 stack is getting wrecked in the past couple of days. maybe i should just stick to solo queue...

At least he learned something, that's something you can't say about most pubs :>

I haven't posted here since the merge, but after my last game...I just played a lot of support games in a row so after 2 losses with retarded carries, I decided *I* wanted to carry. Picked antimage, went safelane, our lanes were reasonable enough.
Puck mid didn't skill phaseshift. At all. He put stats over phaseshift.
By the time I got my 16 minute battlefury, the game was 2-20, most of the deaths were Puck. I killed Lion when instantly a TA blinked on me and OHKOd me with a deso meld.
|
the game is still telling me to get fucked
|
Earthshakers that don't level fissure...at all.

As usuall i pick the only support in my team - SD. We go 12-1 in the early game and then we realize that our carries PA and Jugger have no items for 20 minutes. Then we slowly but surely lose the game... The next game was pretty close for the most of the time. We had better late game , but we lost rax to DP. We won one close fight and I told my team to sit back an farm and to not push yet. Of course they did the exact opposite of that. Almost all of them at half HP they engaged 4v5 vs the enemy team. I(spectre) ulted in to help them... And that was the game. This game is almost exactly like poker. First I was on an upswing, now it is time for the downswing. From 3k MMR now I've lost something like 8 games... Welcome 2.8k mmr.
