I have Razer Black Widow Ultimate and wanted to give it a proper wash
Any experience on washing mechanical keyboards in a dishwasher??

Should I add dishwasher soap? or just empty run?
Thanx for input

I'll post about results

Electronics in the dishwasher sounds like a very dangerous idea, especially when it is something worth $100+...

I'd suggest yanking off the keys with a key-puller and using rubbing alcohol / a rag as necessary.

[A dishwasher probably wouldn't work well for a keyboard's crevices anyway.]

Edit: Congratulations that it worked. Disassembling the keyboard was a good idea [I hadn't realized this was the plan initially].

I would still fear the cord getting stuck in the spinning sprayer inside of most dishwashers.

Be sure to throw your motherboard in there as well. Of course you should use soap, probably JetDry as well or something so you get a nice shiny finish.

As my 1000th post, I wanted to tell you that this is an amazing idea.

If you break your keyboard during the wash, you can always repair it by baking it in the oven in foil at around 250 degrees C, which will purge the water and solder anything that was broken. This works especially well for Razer keyboards which are manufactured in aboriginal kilns to begin with.

I usually use my commercial air compressor machine, then after a nice dose of cold compressed air I finish the clean up with isopropyl alcohol.

This actually is a legitimate method (albeit quite counter intuitive and unorthodox) of cleaning a keyboard. I've done it with a cheap membrane keyboard a while ago. I let it dry for a week before using it--worked perfectly fine LOL. Not too sure how mech keyboards will hold up to the wash though. In any case, I would not suggest putting your Razer keyboard in the dishwasher in case certain mishaps do occur.

I used to just remove the electric parts and the circuits from my old rubber keyboards, remove all the keys and leave it in the bathtub for the night. Rinse it in the morning and boom, it was clean. Always worked. Unless I broke the spacekey.

I usually just strap the keyboard to the side or roof of my car when I go to the car wash. It does a great job of cleaning between the keys.

You could try to join a protest or demonstration and encourage the mob to get violent. When the police bring out the water cannons, that's when your keyboard comes out for washing. Squeaky clean in no time, and all at the expense of public funds (saves you the water bill!)

Thanks for the bump, will try this with my DasUltimate this weekend. I am way to lazy to take out all the caps and cleaning by hand.

Pretty stupid but if the board is grounded and you use demineralised water and let it dry 100% completely shouldn't be an issue but still not recommended. He's using tap water which has minerals that will remain on the board and could cause corrosion.
