according to review test results, U14S will be 2-5c better than hyper212 depending on load, but gonna be more expensive as well.
Which tests?
may be this and this. the only big difference i see is when running prime95 OC, but that hardly indicate any real world usage anyway
They're not running high overclocks so they need a load like prime95 to stress either cooler and show differences. The first link shows an ~11c gap there, second one shows a ~23c gap (probably errors in testing, given the other results)
@cyro: understood that. I didnt have the target overclock in the question, but anyway i think that the overclock showed is somewhat the comfortable range for casual users, not enthusiastic level of pushing to the max OC, so about 5c difference seem for reasonable for day to day usage. of course that means the U14S is being underestimate for its price

I would go with the nh-d14 or 15 but im worried about my ram height

as for ram clearance, D14 has a list of compatible ram as answered above. D15 is redesign to have better clearance, but still good to check the list. you can go with D15S (single fan) and it still performs really well, although gonna be lots more expensive than hyper212, or cryorig h7
Is it worth buying RX480/GTX1060 right now or is it better to wait for the Vega announcement? As I understand Vega gfx cards will be for the high-cost spectrum, so i wouldn't be buying it anyway, but would it affect the cost of RX480 in the very near future? If so, then how much of a price drop could it realistically entail, and how fast do these things happen usually anyway, after a new line of products is released?

If your max temps are only hitting 65c on the weaker cooler then you won't see wide performance gaps and it won't matter either way because the weaker cooler is fine for that load and OC

We have some updated stats from siliconlottery, average 7600k/7700k seems to be ~5ghz@1.37v. Pretty tight chip-to-chip variance, not much more than +-100mhz from there
Hi all, my friend is looking to build a PC but is unsure of what parts to get. Since you guys helped me to build my PC two years ago I was hoping you could help!
What is your budget? - $2000 (Australian Dollars)
What is your monitor's native resolution? - 1920x1080
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? -- Mainly Civ series and Total War series, but also RPG's like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, Fallout etc.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? -- A bit of beatmaking using ableton and to use it as a media centre. As well as programs like AutoCAD
Do you intend to overclock? --- Undecided, most likely yes in the future.
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? ---- No
Do you need an operating system? --- No
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? --- Yes, it is in a separate budget of $400
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. - No requirements
What country will you be buying your parts in? -- Australia
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. - I have no preferences.

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/WBCHnn - This is what i came up with. If your friend isn't using win10 he'd need to upgrade or go with a skylake cpu(6700k). A 1080 seems out of the question for the absurd price they are in australia. I went with the hyper 212 because he isn't sure if he wants to overclock yet so that can always be changed to a better cooler.
Since moving countries my PC is left at my old place, couple of thousand miles away and since it's now 4 years old, it's not really worth shipping, so I'll probably be building a new rig. I've got nothing, but I'll probably get my keyboard and mouse from the old computer a some point. I started doing some research and came up with this build. I want something that will last me a few years without the need to upgrade. I'm planning to get it SLI ready but start with only one GFX. I know I'll probably be playing some new games of various types, I'll definitely be running multiple VM's at times on top of Windows, not enough to warrant a Xeon though. It's probably going to be a white/black build - I've got a white room with white furniture, wouldn't want to ruin it.
What is your budget? Probably gonna finish at around 1500 GBP.
What is your monitor's native resolution? I don't have one, will buy as part of the build. I used to have a 24 inch 1920x1200 (16:10) so that's what I'll probably get but I'm fine with 16 too.
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Various on top settings.
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Forensics and pentesting to a certain degree.
Do you intend to overclock? Possibly in the future.
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? Yes, SLI.
Do you need an operating system? Yes.
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? Monitor only.
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. I'm an MSI fanboy, but not enough to pay premium for their products if an alternative is available.
What country will you be buying your parts in? UK
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Nope.
Looks pretty good to start with, probably want a 7700k + better cooler and 2x1080 is hilariously overpowered for a 1080p60 screen. Most people go 1440p or 144hz with weaker hardware
For a quick check you can just divide 1440p bench numbers by ~1.34x. You'd need to turn down the settings for all games mentioned by varying amounts as that leaves average FPS between about 28 (worst) and 52 (best) depending on the game and benchmark on the few that i've checked
Seems like the 960 evo 250 gb is like 130 dollars. I think that's a pretty good deal to start replacing the 850s since the 850s are like 30 dollar less for the same storage though it won't make any difference in gaming.

Pricing is tricky because I cant tell u how it behaves where you live. In canada, price drops because of new products usually happen just after the official reveal/announcement (but way before the cards are released). Just enough details are released to create hype, but not so much that we know exactly just how good the new cards will be. These drops are usually very temporary (but can be very substantial), made just to clear excess stock, if any. Having said that, I think vega is too high end to impact pricing for the 480/1060. They would drop in price more on time decay and maybe over supply shld demand simmer down (which may or may not happen).
Is the 480/1060 worth a buy? Really depends on what you have right now and what games you are playing. And what price you can get them for. But yeah, unless vega has at least a 1070-level gpu in the lineup (expectation is weakest card would be a 1080 level) and is VERY aggressively priced, i dont think it will have an impact.
