It'll be pointless to buy anything below a GTX 960 / R9 280 for Skylake i5 processors.
Welcome to last week

yea, they're already at like, over 15% of high end graphics performance

Intel focuses more on IGP performance when doing a die shrink than on the CPU architecture updates. Broadwell and Skylake are 14 nm. Skylake i5 probably won't get the eDRAM cache on most models, and most won't have full GT3 configs for graphics. They can't up graphics performance much without increasing die area substantially over Broadwell, anyway. Or is there info about Skylake IGP configs out there already? I haven't been looking.

If they offer something equivalent to iris pro 6200 on a desktop CPU at an alright price, it could remove 750/260x's at least for those who care about CPU performance (a weak CPU plus a better gpu could be cheaper, but four broadwell/skylake cores are monstrous compared to a 7870k or a haswell pentium/i3)

they wouldn't seriously do that would they if it were the R9 380 or 380X I might understand, but their flagship is going to be the same thing?

It's supposedly (well, pretty much guaranteed at this point) to be coming branded as radeon fury in tiers above that, probably with multiple versions available. Doesn't stop all the uneducated people buying 390x's before reviews are out and assuming that they're fiji because of nothing more than rumor (when they even have a list of specs on the box) i was hoping for a gcn 1.2 rehash of hawaii though, not just a straight copy of a 290/290x with higher clock speeds. The only new thing here is potentially a 390 (290) with 8GB of VRAM available instead of having to pay the 290x tax to unlock that option

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80 GHZ , 2.80 GHZ RAM: 8.00 GO (4 X 2GB) Hard Drive: 360 GB free / 931 GB. SATA 2 (That's what I could read. Does that tell you enough ? ) Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6800 series, 1 GB Monitor: ONN LE-22G90 Windows 7 What is your monitor's native resolution? 1376x780 Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? The culprit is ARK: Survival Evolved. Priority 1) My number one priority is to be able to go everywhere in the game, with the settings I currently have, without much lag. Currently, the game is okay in general, but some areas. (Caves, Highly populated areas, Near animated beams of light) cause the game to lag. At worse, the game becomes too laggy to do anything, and has crashed twice, giving me a video card error message. Secondary: The game currently takes around 5-10 minutes to load, and sometimes fail to do so. This is not as important to me, but I'd like to know how to improved that as well, as it might be my second upgrade eventually. What is your budget? I'd like to invest 100 $ to achieve ''Priority 1''. I would reluctantly invest 200 $ to achieve Priority 1 + an increase in graphical settings. I would invest 100 $ again for the secondary objective. What country will you be buying your parts in? Canada If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. Not brand or retailer. I want 1)cost-effectiveness 2)Reliability 3) No/Low maintenance. What I can't install myself, I'm sure I would find someone to do it. Thanx in advance for reading and taking time off your path to give this advice ![]()

What is your budget? ~350-400 euros, so basically it's going to be a pile of shit no matter what, in the words of Cyro What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Dota 2/Pillars of Eternity, whatever settings as long as the fps is playable What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Basic Python and C++ programming Do you intend to overclock? Given that it's going to be a pile of shit laptop, nop Do you need an operating system? Nop Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? Nop What country will you be buying your parts in? Italy; the big online store here for pc parts is e-key.it

It might be VRAM related. You can look at your VRAM usage and see if it's going over ~900MB or so (gpu-z or msi afterburner are good tools to monitor that). If so, you could lower VRAM intensive settings - texture quality is usually the biggest one but some other graphics settings, sometimes shadows and related stuff can eat VRAM. Running out of VRAM can cause stuttering, crashes and slow loading, you should keep it below ~95% at all times, your GPU needs some empty space in the VRAM in order to do stuff so VRAM related problems will start to happen as you get close to 100% capacity, a bit before you actually get there. Under ~85-90% is good for a bit of safety margin, you also have to take into account that some scenes might use way more vram than others or vram usage might climb after some time playing the game or going to different areas) Also, that game seems to have really terrible optimization. Like, really terrible, people on balanced ~$1-2k+ brand new rigs (OC'd current gen CPU, high end GPU) spending a lot of time below 60fps and dipping below 30. I'm not sure exactly why without looking into it more but your problems might not be fixable to a satisfactory extent

even with a good benchmark, a lot of the concern with those laptops is power budgets - the low power cpu's with integrated graphics like a 5200u will actually have far worse CPU performance when you are running a graphics load on them. Same in reverse, graphics performance drops with CPU load. The "base" clock of the iGPU is 1000mhz, but it can drop all the way to 200mhz in extreme cases. That's why you have to be very wary of those ultrabook power rated CPU's, they perform bad out of the box but it can be far far worse in some situations. A dedicated GPU of any kind (it has its own power budget then) or a CPU+iGPU that's not clocked and limited for ultra low power (either intel or AMD) is strongly preferred thermal throttling is also a minor concern; in extreme cases you can have a brand new laptop in a 20c room on a suitable surface and it'll throttle to under half performance with a sustained load. That probably doesn't happen on that much hardware (just some) but any throttling is a concern and if it's already too hot, when it gets dusty etc or a hot day then it'll just get worse

An oc is not necessary if that helps price and the budget would increase should I wait till after I get my job, though I would really just like to have a comp now. Myrmidon helped me with a friends build to include a xeon [ maybe two years ago now? Still great ] and that seemed to both of us to be the best idea ever hadn't really considered that before. Thanks you guys are always great.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 4.6GHz 1.285V CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Tri-X Toxic Case: Corsair 750D Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W What is your monitor's native resolution? 1080P Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? I do play Skyrim a lot. Also I would like to heavily mod it, now 280X is enough if you wanna have a modest setup. But I want to go for the highest possible quality. And by that, I mean 2-4K textures all the way, most performance heavy ENB I can find and top of that, if my GPU still has some room for it I would like to use DSR/VSR. Same goes for Witcher 3 too, would like to play at ultra settings with ENB or SweetFX and also use DSR/VSR. What is your priorities? Video Card: 3GB is not enough, not at all, and the card doesn't perform that good anyway. I probably need something 1.5x better. At least. Storage: 250GB seems enough, but barely. Would like to get another 120-128 or maybe even 250. Currently I got only 30GB space left, using an external HDD for movies and music and such. Using SSD only for games, OS and some usual softwares. Happy with the performance, just not the capacity. Power Supply: I just would like to get a better quality PSU, not that I got any problems with it, yet. CPU: Would like to have an i7 even though I think it won't make that much difference. What is your budget? 1000USD What country will you be buying your parts in? Gonna buy things from Amazon.com but I would have to pay 15% more for everything due to taxes, keep that in mind. If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. EVGA, ASUS

Radeon fury should be better perf/dollar but they have only 4GB of VRAM CPU: Would like to have an i7 even though I think it won't make that much difference. Then why didn't you buy i7 straight out? If adding HT would help on Witcher, it would be a pretty marginal diffference and you already bought a 4690k, you'd be sidegrading into the same CPU generation. Just grab a skylake CPU in 2 months if you want a better CPU, either way that you go
