I personally think 60GB is just fine and instead of games ''stepping it up'', it should be countries and providers stepping their speeds up. It's 2015. GTA5 runs just fine on an HDD, there are barely any loading screens so I don't really see a point in running it on an SSD in the first place.

The microsttuter issue I've heard about does happen to me; but barely noticeably so. It's not a big deal and it doesn't happen very often. Gief fraps benchmark (frametimes), i've seen some terrible frametime consistency. If it's not a lot better, you'd need ~80-90+fps to match a game that has a more solid 60fps in smoothness, on a 60hz monitor Also people complaining of FOV

1. Will upgrading my ram help with performance on HotS? 2. This is the motherboard I have. Can I get something like this to replace the 2x2GB that I currently have? Digging up an old invoice, these are the other parts on my computer: CPU: Intel Core i5 750 BX80605I5750 Processor - 2.66GHz, LGA 1156 GPU: BFG BFGEGTX260MC896OCDE GeForce GTX 260 If this is too vague, let me know and I can provide any additional details. edit: it looks like using the 32-bit client solves the issue ![]()

My current rig is as follows... ASUS P8Z77-V PRO 1155 socket 2500K HD6950 flashed up to 6970 speeds 4gb RAM What I would like to do is keep the mobo and get a 4690K with more RAM and new graphics card. The question I have is... Q: Should I get a new motherboard or is it a pointless upgrade with the £150ish saving better spent on the graphics card? I'd like to keep the mobo in and just buy new components for it. Will this mobo be a bottleneck?

Looking at the hierarchy chart for CPU's you might be right. I might just switch out my RAM and graphics card then. I guess I should stick with my current mobo for a while then too.

have like 350-400 euro and would like to get a new gpu current system: 3570k @4,4ghz | 660gtx | 8gb ram | psu 450w from bequite. would like to not change the psu too so would need a card that doesnt require that. i dont care if its nvidia or amd, i just wish it to be that much better that i notice the change in my system and the gpu should be silent (or very quite) thanks in advance for the help ~

If you wanted a CPU upgrade, you'd wait until Skylake later this year Sandy bridge release - Jan 2011 Haswell release - June 2013 Skylake release ~q3 2015 Since we get tocks less than once every 2 years, Skylake will be 2 tocks ahead of SB instead of just 1 and we've already waited 22 months for it (out of maybe 25-26) it's just silly to upgrade from sandy bridge to Haswell now. Even buying Haswell new wouldn't be that great if you care about a 15% performance difference

What temperatures are you getting at 4,4ghz? What cooler are you using? I've been thinking about overclocking but I just have the stock cooler.

280x too, but it's often a lot more expensive and a 280 is around 90% as fast the only one i would consider avoiding because of PSU would be the 290. Seems the PSU has 4x rail setup with 18a (216w) max per rail (so could get 432w to a GPU within spec from pci-e cables on 2 different rails, plus some from pci-e slot) but the overall continuous power limit of 480w is on the lower side of what's alright for an oc'd CPU and a 290. Maybe fine at stock, but no aggressive OC, IDK exactly little worry for less performance when CPU bound in GTA5 with radeon GPU, but i have not seen any data from that. It just might be a thing since it's dx11

960 or 970 r9 280, 290 as options) 280x too, but it's often a lot more expensive and a 280 is around 90% as fast the only one i would consider avoiding because of PSU would be the 290 and noticable for sure. easily twice as fast, and 660 has 1.5GB of VRAM at full speed, 0.5GB at half speed 970 has 3.5GB at full speed, 0.5GB pretty much unusable (so functionally around twice as much)

how come gpus always list 2gb or 4gb and only 3,5gb or 1,5gb are functional? Because of the way the memory controllers are. For the 660, it's a 192 bit bus and having 2GB of VRAM with the last 0.5GB being half speed is a little bit more effective than only having 1.5GB on there. It seems like there are 3GB VRAM versions that run all of it at full speed (double capacity version of 1.5GB at full speed) but i have not seen those. Having only 1.5GB running at full speed was apparently quite well documented at the time, and the other cards (670, 680) had the full memory controller enabled so that they were able to utilize 8 memory chips instead of just 6 (allowing for 2GB and 4GB capacity, instead of 1.5GB or 3GB running at full speed). For 970, similar thing but more complex. 87.5% of the memory runs at 7/8'ths speed, but the last 12.5% is functionally unusable. It was NOT documented or advertised as all until after it became one of the best selling GPU's of all time, and that caused some shit and problems for a lot of people and retailers. the brand/cooler to get depends kinda on which GPU you choose. The MSI Gaming 970 is good, among the 970's

Was wondering if someone could give me some quick information on what I should be looking at for a 1000$ build! I've been out of touch of the Computer world for some years so I'm not sure how things progressed! EDIT : Current computer is I5-760, with Nvidia 460 GPU. Been getting alot of blue screen + slow loadings issues (take a few minutes to boot up, and many minutes to load Diablo 3). Unsure if I can fix it (Diablo 3 isn't very demanding as a game) What is your budget? 1000$ What is your monitor's native resolution? 1080p What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Right now, only Diablo 3. Not the biggest gamer. What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Nothing (game + Office) Do you intend to overclock? No, unless needed. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No, unless needed. Do you need an operating system? Possibly Windows 8. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? Nope. Will probably upgrade later. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. None What country will you be buying your parts in? Canada If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. NCIX.com (since they offer pricematch)

For GPU there are screws on the i/o pane + power cable can be used to create some tension and hold it up. But tower heatsink like Silver Arrow or NH-D15 is so heavy and is held on motherboards by only 2-4 screws, so in long term would there be problems like bending or shagging? Is it normal or there is somewhat to hack-fix it, like tying a string to the case to hold it up lol

I'd like to stay somewhere around 800-1000 (1000 absolute max) USD. Obviously cheaper is better but it depends on what will be better for the build in the long term What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080 What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? SC2, H1Z1, Battlefield, maybe Heroes of the Storm etc. I've only been playing SC2 for the last few years since that's all my old rig could handle. It's time for an upgrade and with it an upgrade in the number of games I could play. What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Nothing really, I do school work on a MacBook Pro. This will be for games and that's pretty much it. Do you intend to overclock? I picked the CPU because it's supposedly the "best bang for the buck" processor that's easily OC'd. I chose a different cooler than the stock one for the purpose of OC'ing. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? More than likely not. By the time I get to that point I'll get a new rig and just roll with it. BUT, I am always open to new suggestions Do you need an operating system? No. I have Windows 7 that I'll be sticking with Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? I will be using my existing monitor. I've got speakers, keyboard mouse etc... If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. No specific requirements, just more mainstream brands in general because it seems like they have less quality control issues. I just don't want the pain of getting a part and having it either DOA or messing up in a month and having to send it back for a replacement. I chose the mobo because my previous mobo was an ASUS and I loved that freaking thing. Never had any problems with it. What country will you be buying your parts in? United States If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Newegg would be nice. I checked the price on pcpartpicker between cheapest prices vs all from newegg and it was like a 8 dollar difference. I've been all over this forum, along with reddit and pcpartpicker and came up with some sort of build. I'm keeping my current HD and putting games/OS on the SSD then just using the regular old drive for mass storage. My only concern is that my graphics card is a GeForce GTS 450 (pretty old school). With the build I have picked out I was going to order all new parts except for the HD and my GPU. I plan on upgrading the GPU in the near future but just wanted to try and keep things on the low end for now rather than save up for the build + GPU. I've been looking at the Radeon R9 280X as a potential card cause it's around $200. I can't really spend more for one at the moment. Any input, advice etc would be greatly appreciated. Here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XgKsCJ
