You need a Z97 or H97 for Haswell Refresh processors aka any processor ending in 9x, 6x, 5x, and 4x. eg. Core i5 4690, Core i5 4460, Core i3 4350, Pentium G3258, etc.

Hello there TL, I'm buying a new pc soon and I want to read your expert comments in this build I'm about to get. I want the pc to run games like bf4 in high quality with good fps, dota 2 and sc2. Also with some streaming capacity. Thank you in advance.

You need a K suffix processor to overclock. You also need an aftermarket heatsink.
You don't need a 750w power supply for a single GPU setup and even if you did, there are probably better options. A ~500w power supply is more than enough for an overclocked 4670k and R9 280x.
You probably want a Western Digital Blue unless you're sure that a 250GB SSD is enough for all your primary programs and games.

Thanks for the quick answer! <3
I don't want to overclock actually! Do I need more powerful components considering my goals? Thanks for the power supply, I will get something like 650w maybe? Anyway I'll save some money there
I'll reconsider the primary storage capacity... I readed in the TL build that 2 storages are recommended instead of one, why is this?
EDIT: ok I'll get an aftermarket cooler TY again

For most users, a single SSD does not provide enough storage so it is necessary to get a HDD as well for storing media, secondary programs, etc. If you think 250GB is enough than you can skip the HDD or you can skip the SSD to save money / if you don't care about the speed and just get a HDD.

He just said that because you picked an overclocking motherboard. If you're not overclocking you don't need that, or a -K cpu, or a CPU cooler
A quality ~430-450w PSU would be more than you need for a stock i5 and a single 280x - it'd be in the ~50-80% load range if you're maxing all of your components at the same time

whyyyyyy :D
4670k/8 is out of date
4690k/9 is now. Binning is supposed to be better (higher cpu clocks on average, far less chance of a "bad" CPU), ~5-12c cooler temperatures too. Cost isn't really worse.

Hey everyone a I'm looking to purchase a new computer with the sole purpose to stream starcraft 2 using the lowest quality in game settings. I don't really know anything about building computers and regardless of how easy it seems to be I still feel inclined to buy a pre-constructed PC to not have to worry about anything.
Altough I am an avid computer user, and always have been, I literally know absolutely nothing about the machine itself. It's very similar to someone who is enjoys driving fast cars, racing, but knows jack shit about cars themselves.
In any case I was hoping to find some help and maybe even a recommendation here on what computer I should purchase. I am looking for as low budget as possible and I'm not looking for anything high-end or fancy. Just the bare minimum to stream SC2 on the lowest in-game graphic settings at 480p-720p with NO lag.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your replies!

What do you get on www.speedtest.net and www.pingtest.net ?
i'm thinking haswell dual core (pentium) and gtx750
I was going to check prices of weaker graphics, but 650(?) is minimum for NVENC and it seems 650/650ti got discontinued with 750 launch
Also.. best to note that you can't really always have good FPS in sc2. With high unit counts, every CPU has a lot of trouble keeping performance levels up, it's just a case of some are way better than others

GT 740 is a rebranded GTX 650 99% sure. although an extra $10-20 for nearly twice the performance with the GTX 750 is worth it.

Yea, i didn't check the recent rebands but the 650ti was vastly faster than the 650 (it had like 4 smx vs 2)
Looks like it is rebrand (gtx650 to 740 gt) but there's also a ddr3 version. I'm not sure of official nvenc support

Hey guys, is there a release date for 4690k yet? edit: Oh its actually out
And any decent reviews? All Ive been able to find so far are twats who put the motherboard on auto and measured the temperature change.

There's i5-4670k (Z87 board) and i5-4690k (Z97 board), which should be similar price.
i5-4670k (and Z87) was released in 2013, and i5-4690k was released just now.

its 4690k im thinking of, its about 20 quid more than the 4670k to buy and if i do that i have to get a more expensive motherboard which seems to add on about 30 quid as well

The price difference from 4670k to 4690k (mostly people discounting 4670k i think to sell them) is worth paying, in terms of mobo cost you had to pay £100 for z87 anyway. z87 board prices seem to have gone up a bit, so it's like £110 for z87x-d3h now. You shouldn't pay to pay £140 for a decent z97 board.
If you're really tight on money and can't wait and absolutely want quad core, i'd still do this - maybe drop from 760 to 750ti, for Wildstar performance and other PC uses
Here you go
z97x-gaming 5 for £110 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-493-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811
digital 8-phase, you can cut down to like £93 or maybe even less if you don't want to push overclocks, but this is the "really solid" tier. I didn't check other stuff on the board, but there's no reason to think anything would be wrong with it.
and i see 4690k's at £168, that's the price i5's have always been (well in the last year at least, i dont remember before) when not on discount, which rarely happens (when that model is obsolete, mainly)
rough price up~
£168 i5 £90-110 mobo £50-67 2x4gb RAM (1600mhz or 2400mhz) £33 cooler £37 for 1tb hdd(?) £104 for a 750ti, £164 for 760 £33-45 for PSU
That's before variable prices like case and windows license, which can either be a nonfactor for cost or a significant addition (if you want to buy a full price windows license and an expensive case)
^corrected now for a few parts - that's £478-£624 Maybe slight price fluctuations since i took those numbers on some other parts. Is that still out of range? I kinda want you to have awesome performance and be happy
Taking bottom parts there.. i5 + mobo + RAM + cooler + GPU + PSU.. that's only £478 to have:
4690k "ok" z97 board standard RAM "ok" superflower 450w PSU same great cooler 750ti no extra storage
Adding up to £146 gets you:
great z97 board 2400mhz RAM kit one of the best 450w PSU's on the planet 750ti to 760 upgrade 1TB HDD to add
^Pick any

Hey guys I'm just wondering how long would the GTX 770 last?
I'm talking in terms of playing games on high settings (not max, but high). Maybe until 2017?
Also I tend to browse a lot of things on the Internet simultaneously. Would I benefit from Intel's i5 CPUs over the i3s? I heard that games are more GPU dependent, so I might save some money and get an i3. How does it sound? The types of games I want to play are Watch Dogs, Tom Clancy's Division and other graphically demanding games.

A lot of games benefit from having 4 cores over 2, if you have a decent budget.
A gtx770 is the same thing as 680, we've had that part for 2 - 2.5 years already, and it's midrange since a while ago. A single 780ti is a better option than a pair of 770's in terms of performance - don't expect them to hold out and be amazing for ages. If you'd bought it on launch in early 2012, it would have held out longer than buying now, but we're already that far into the life cycle of the part, it's just been rebranded as 770 with very minor (like 5%) performance gains
are you on 1080p?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm on 1080p. Hmm never knew the GTX 770 was the same as GTX 680.
I'm not planning to go over 1080p yet.
Also what is better the AMD A10-7850K or the i5 4590?
