The Parts of my new build arrived today, spent a few hours with reading the manuals and putting stuff together, however it came without thermal paste and the cooler master power supply seems to lack some cables, or rather, one to connect one of the 3 extra cables to the Rest and the other two are simply too short for the case, which is kinda sad. My sdd got delayed, so I'll have to work with my old hdd once I bought the thermal paste and some cables, but that's okay, the motherboard and the case didn't seem to be the most perfect pair, but I think it'll be fine, it's the first time I'm building a computer, so I feel like something will break, but I'll give my best. This build? http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=21490618Thermal paste comes pre-applied on Intel stock heatsinks. Which cables are we talking about, connecting to what?
Oh that's great. And the cable for the hdd is too short, both of them and I can't connect them either, the third cable is for the burners and disk reading thingies (it's late and I forgot the term, yes I'm stupid), that one can't be connected to any of the cables of the power supply and I can't stick them in the motherboard either, so I'm kind of at a loss. To be honest it just feels like there's a cable missing just to connect things, my old power supply had a lot more cables, even though that was the only good thing about it I guess

Wait, what? A picture would better illustrate your problem as I'm having a difficult time understanding.
All drives (HDD, SSD, optical drives) connect to the power supply with SATA power cables, they look like this:
+ Show Spoiler [image] +
And they usually comes in strands of three.
If your drives are very old than they may be using molex connectors (it's the white one in the picture).

Polarity on power and reset does not matter.

Yes, I have 2 extra cables with like 3 or 4 Sata plugs on them, but they are too short to reach my hdd and I can't connect them either to make one that's longer, the third One is one with molex plugs i think, but while I can connect it to atleast One thing from my case and my old CD reader thing, I still can't connect it to the power supply, so it's basically useless

Not sure if I should be worried, but when I started the computer for the first time, I heard a faint click and the whole thing paused for a sec. Then it came back to normal and got to bios. This this behavior normal?
|
Yup. My current board does that when it decides it has to do some serious rearranging of stuff. The click should be the PC turning on and off and on again. It does this whenever I load BIOS defaults for example, or change RAM speed, things like that.

Mine does it whenever i cut+drain power with psu unplugged, it powers for a few seconds, cuts and then powers on again and boots
|
Cut and drain? Like switching off the PSU after unplugging?

Turning off power, unplugging PSU, spamming power on button on case etc. If you only turn it "off" then there's still some power that makes mobo LED's stay on etc
|
Hmm. Well I'm reusing my 2 year old PSU. In the process I unplugged it and turned off the switch. Accidentally tried to switch the computer on (2-3 times) before realizing that I PSU switch was off. I guess that's the problem.

1. Right now I just have a macbook for school, what do I need for antivirus edit: on a pc? Do I need to purchase something or is Microsoft Security Essentials adequate?
2. Nothing else considered, would I get better performance out of an Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core w/ a Radeon R9 270 2gb graphics card or a AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core w/ a Radeon R7 265 2GB card? I'd take the fx6300, but what games do you want to run well?
Basically I'd like to run most big name titles at medium settings w/ 40+ fps. Not looking for a Metro: Last Light killer but something that will run most games reasonably well.

I'm wondering if 550W will do in this build, or if I should go 650W if I want to OC?
Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VII Ranger CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2x8GB) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB HDD: WD Black 4TB Graphics card: ASUS GeForce GTX780 Ti DirectCU II OC Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D PSU: Corsair RM ???W Operating system: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit OEM
I'm wondering if the Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 would be a better case than the 750D in terms of air flow and air cooling? Or if anyone has a better suggestion for a case.

h440 more quiet focused etc, i don't know a ton

I want to watercool my r9 290 and i5 3570k and overclock both, can anyone recommend a power supply to do that with? I planned on using 2 120/140 closed loops, 1 for each. thanks!

Disregard my posts about the cables, I'm a fucking retard.

I'm happy with it - it seems to have decent airflow. Especially if you remove the middle drive cage section. Then again, it has a vented bottom, top, and front, decent exhaust at the back, and filters on most. It will fit everything I see, and it has an integrated three speed fan controller.

I built in everything, the bad news are that nothing happens when I turn it on though, only the graphics card moves its fan a bit, but that seems to be it
EDIT: Checked all cables, they all look alright, now the graphics card doesn't even move anymore, though

Check the CPU header
Check that the PSU is on
It sounds like you have a very simple problem. Not sure what that is though.
What case do you have?
|
Do you have both the 4pin and 24pin connector plugged into the motherboard?
Did you install standoffs in the case for the motherboard to be mounted on?
|
Yes and yes. The standoffs as well, though maybe something went wrong there, if that's the only explanation
