$4k to play with? Hell, here's what I would do: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3PV6e overclocked 4690k on a GA Z87X D3H board. (not out yet) 2x4 gb of speedy RAM x2 780 Ti SLI a single 1440p ROG SWIFT PG278Q (not out yet) switch 820 for case strider plus 850w fully modular PSU (might need more power for 780 ti sli?) that puts me at $3k which leaves $1k for two custom water loops, one for the CPU, one for the GPUs hmm yeah that's what i would get E: yes i'm a greedy fuck. i want nvidia gysnc, 1440p AND 120 hz. E: not sure if getting a 4790k is better than 4690k in this build. with such budget you'd be able to stream 1080p60 at very least, I know hyperthreading would help here, not sure if it's worth it though since it adds heat. I can stream decently with a 4670 at stock clocks, at 1080p60. however I do notice the drop in performance. i imagine that an OC'd 4690k would do well in the set up I have right here, but would it stream 1080p60 while also running high-end games (think arma III) at 1440p120ish ? yeah i think the 4790k might be slightly better then. $100 though

I went for the "typical professional" sample size The store i am buying from did not have all the pieces. Buying all pieces from the same store. I tried to do my homework but its still hard as hell for me. The computer is used for gaming and editing. First piece is the: Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) CL11 2400Mhz XMP Beast Series $194 The ram works with overclocking? It works all around good with the computer? Any other RAM with better price available or anything like that? The next one is: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H ATX $196 This motherboard can last for future upgrades? This motherboard is good for its price? Any other motherboard that i should get instead? Last piece ASUS Radeon R9 280X 3GB DirectCUII TOP+ 3 st spel (GOLD) $354 It gives me three free games. Thats what the last words are. Dunno what the TOP means, maybe something along with that to do. The gold word is not important, it is the mark for 3games only. Bronze is 1game. I figured i didnt need the high end graphic card that was on the sample size. This card is good for its cost? It will work well in gaming->high setting? Good overall for gaming? What about editor and stuff like that, its potentially solid in that regard to? One last thing about the graphic card. I prioritise silence cards. This card is good in the silence department? EDIT: My budget has alot of variation. So i dont have one exactly but i wanna try and stay within these types of money. However, if a card is $50-100 more expensive but it just pays off in the long run or something and u recommend it i would probably buy it.

My idea of a dream set up is based around one, big, sexy monitor instead of several smaller ones. I'd play Arma 3 on the $4k rig imo, that game looks friggin' gorgeous. It's obviously a stupidly overkill set up for SC2 and such but I wouldn't build such a thing for SC2. 120 Hz might be nice to have for RTS/mobas/fps, but you can do that with a 4690k + 750 Ti.. so. I'm not sure what's better though, in terms of a realistic build: 1440p60 or 1080p120 w/ g-sync? I'd center the build around a single, very high end GPU (780 Ti) and obviously the i5 4690k, probably both on air to keep the costs OK.

If you want something for future upgrades, get a Z97 board. They should already be available. The new CPUs that will be released in a few weeks already won't work in Z87. ![]() You really don't need such an expensive motherboard unless it has features that you need like Thunderbolt or WiFi. You will feel absolutely no difference between something expensive and something for $130 or so (actually probably same with something below $100). There should be cheaper RAM, but I can't really say because comparing US $ is confusing because of European taxes and stuff. Just look around and buy the cheapest, also look at other speeds like 2133 MHz.

Not sure what you mean for future upgrades. If you want to do Crossfire than yes but there are less expensive boards that are Crossfire capable as well. If you mean CPU upgrade than no... Z87 is approaching end of life and LGA1150 only has another year. Most folks do not spend $200 on a processor and than spend another $200 within a year to get a 5% or so increase in performance. Z97 is basically just a Z87 with guaranteed Broadwell support so it won't last you any longer unless you're willing to spend $200 within a year or two for a minor upgrade.

I removed the taxes and stuff. So it would be around 25% more expensive than what i gave. When i look at the build sample i see that memory card has 2400 mhz and 1.65 voltage. Isnt this important? I also noticed some comments that said it wasnt certain some memory cards could fit nicely if u had a heatsink. Cuz of the length of the memory card. Is this something to fear or does that case in the sample size work wonder so its no problem in those regards? This comment was actually on the RAM card i picked...Hmm. Replaced the motherboard with: Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H The total price for me is $160. Divide it with 25% and its $129. I take this one unless someone has anything bad to say about it ![]() About future upgrades. Like say i need 32GB RAM later, then i buy an additional 2x8 in the future. I guess i mean also if i want my computer to work with some...great editor program..heavy stuff Iam really noob at computers. Does this computer already cover heavy programs. Wanna make models for video games and stuff(?) Corsair AX 760W 80+ Platinum Modulär Is this the same powersupply as in the sample size? It cost $10 more only when i divided it.

There are a lot of excellent power supplies, you don't need to necessarily get the one listed in the sample build. XFX XTR, Seasonic X, Superflower Golden Green, Antec Edge, etc.

Those words are so hard for me to understand. Exhaust and bling, what does those mean? I take it as its possible now with those 47mm if i use the noctua nh-u1 right? If it works with those and if i wanna add another two in the future, is it possible if i buy those new ones if they are under 41mm without me doing the exahaust thing.

![]() That would be the traditional / desired fan mounting, as intake sucking air from the front of case and pushing it through the heatsink. Mounting it as exhaust would mean mounting it on the other side, so sucking air through the heatsink and pushing it out through the back of the case. Bling means flashy, look good? Some people buy stuff simply because it looks nice. You can mix and match in the future yes.

Here's a comparison picture about memory sticks: http://i.imgur.com/dQGF0qT.jpg The ones on the right are special low-profile sticks and they work totally fine without any heat-sink. The ones on the left aren't even that large. Something like Corsair Vengeance for example looks ridiculous and the heat-sink has barely any use.

What is your current build? Intel Core I5 2400 ASRock H67M B3 mATX motherboard MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto 2x2GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 memory Antec Neo Eco 450c Power Supply Western Digital Caviar Black 640 GB Sata3 7200RPM hard drive Intel SSD (having trouble remembering which one exactly... possibly 330 series 120 GB) Avermedia Live Gamer HD capture card Coolermaster HAF 912 Black mid tower What is your monitor's native resolution? Primary: 1920x1080 Secondary: Something less than that =P Its an oldish samsung synchmaster... Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? Honestly, because I'm itchin to get some better parts. Pretty poor reason, I know. I want to start overclocking. Both my CPU and GPU. Neither is at the moment (CPU for obvious reasons). Mostly just to say I do. I intend to start streaming again. I did for ~6 months and then life got the better of me. In any event, I hope to stream semi regularly again. I haven't really noticed a lack of performance with my current rig, but maybe I don't know what I'm missing? What is your budget? For this upgrade I'd be receptive to around $500 - $600 CAD. What country will you be buying your parts in? CanadiaLand If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. Nope. Basically, what is the biggest bang for my buck I can get right now? Or in a couple weeks. I hear a new processor is coming out soon?

If you want a new processor than you'll need a new motherboard. The Core i5 4690k should be out soon and it'll be around ~$270, probably closer to $300 though, and a Z97 motherboard will be somewhere around $130? Plus you'll need an aftermarket heatsink which is another $30 to $70. So budget of $600 is not big enough to do both upgrades at once. If you are playing CPU intensive games than go for a new CPU and motherboard, otherwise get a new GPU for graphic intensive games. A new monitor may also be a very good option if you are not noticing any lack of performance with your current setup.

Or in a couple weeks. I hear a new processor is coming out soon? The refreshed Haswell processors are supposed to be out June 2'nd (not solid date) and it could be worth getting one of those if you wanted to go from the i5 2400's 3.2ghz under 4-core load to say 4.5ghz. That'd be like >1.6x faster for video encoding* - the question is, does it matter? For CPU upgrading, we're getting new platform and architecture around late 2015, Skylake with DDR4 RAM. You might want to wait until then, unless you want a CPU upgrade now and want to overclock. For GPU's, we're still using the same tech for everything you would "upgrade" to aside from the 780/290+ as we were in the first months of 2012, but expecting new stuff soon(tm) (second half of 2014, maybe a little later) *If i5-2400 can encode a certain video @100fps @3.2ghz, you'd expect a 4670k to manage about 120 - but clocked @4.5ghz (1.40625x as high, that's 120*1.4 for ~168.75% performance)

Anyway, not important. Iam not much into how it looks. So ye. You mean those cards work WITH any heatsink, right? A typo from you? Or did i misunderstand? I will assume now if i put those big cards on part 2 and 4, it will work just fine. If iam wrong please say so. Ah right, i totally forgot about that. Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H I think i take this. I switch my radeon graphic card to a nividia and my future is bright. This is correct, right?
