Hello everyone,

First, Im not sure what the problem is but I think my PNY GTX560 ti (company OC) or my AMD Phenom x6 1100T is over heating. All i know during the summer and even now is that randomly (ON LOWEST SETTINGS POSSIBLE), when I play SC2, my colors will get all messed up then the game will crash. Then out of game, my sound is f*cked up and I have to restart my computer.

But lately, when i start up my computer and activate my 6cores on my AMD CPU in bios, it says "over clocking failed, press f1 for default values". Then once I restart without all 6 cores activated, it runs smoothly.

In the summer, i use to have a 12 inch window fan blow into my case and it would stop it from crashing (Duh, i know I can do that now but its really annoying to bring down everyday.) Im not sure if its the GPU or CPU, I have ran bench marks for the GPU (furmark) and it ran for 10 minutes no problem, so im kind of puzzled on if its the GPU or the CPU crashing when I play SC2.

This is my rig:
CPU: Phenom x6 1100T
GPU: PNY 560TI (Company OC'd)
HDD: Seagate 160G
RAM: 2x2gb OCZ, 2x4gb Munchin
MB: ASUS m4a88td-v evo/usb3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010
CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133094

Second, If it is a over heating problem (I believe it is because it doesn't crash with my window fan) I want a significant case that can pull enough air threw so that I can play on high settings without it crashing, also, I plan on doing SLI with my GTX card in a half year and would love to upgrade my PSU since I want a new case. Any recommendations about the new case and PSU? =]

If you need any more information, please post and Ill be glad to share anything!

Thank you for your time.

*My Furmark temps - after 10 minutes, my GPU stayed at 80C-83C.
*Prime95 - after ~1minute my 5th core gave out, at ~8 minutes blue screen of death appeared.
*My CPU Fan - http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cpu/041/scktn3000_detail.html
* Thermal paste - Artic Silver 5
*Price range for case - $100-$150
*There is no room to put any fans, or atleast hook fans up to my tower. I have tried putting fans 120mm fans on and there is no way to hook them onto the tower.

^This, you also need to know for sure which is overheating. You can download programs to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures, nvidia cards thermal shutdown at about 100c i think, but ive heard AMD cpu's are much lower.

If you can quote some temps running stress tests etc im sure someone can help you out here, but from the info we have i think your stock cooler is insufficient and you just need a new CPU heatsink

your case you have now has room for 5 more fans.... I think if you have your fans in the right places, and make sure that your thermal paste is properly applied you shouldn't be overheating at all. If your overclocking you will always want a aftermarket cooler in most cases. My guess is that your heatsink isn't on the right way which is causing your pc to overheat. Think about getting some more fans before thinking about a new case. plus you haven't mentioned a pricepoint for it anyways. Good cases range from $60-300+

CPU temp under load is the most important thing you need to find out. Prime95 is a good torture test program, but you need a temperature monitor, too (unless you just run prime95 without) if it bluescreens you or something, you are most likely overheating cpu, if it runs fine for 10 mins+ its probably another issue

Yeah last night when I had SC2 open, Skype, webcam on talking to GF, music, internet, I received the blue screen of death twice in a matter of a hour. Then once I unplugged my webcam, It stopped. I also thought it was my CPU last night because of the heat it was given off. I do not think that its the GPU because it should run fine under 80C-83C. (When on Low settings, itll get to 75, thats it).

CPU and GPU are 2 different components... If you are referring to the heat being thrown out of the back of your PC, that is your graphics card, not CPU. You need to stress test it and check temperatures.

Your graphics card is fine at ~80c, mine sits there too when playing with auto fan profile (though it is ~50c if i manually max fan) but the processor is another story.

air thrown out the back of your pc in cheap OEM cases is actually power supply usually <_>

Yeah 80c graphics card is okay but the processor shouldn't be higher than 60c preferably

Run Real Temp and see what your cores idle at then run Prime 95 and see what the temperature is at under load. Report back. You might need to reseat your heatsink.

My PSU doesnt really throw out a massive amount of heat, gpu has a dual vent at the back and is really hot

I'm pretty sure PNY doesn't have any external exhaust GTX 560 Ti models... Someone having an EE model is extremely rare these days.

If it is overheating problems before going out and buying any new gear to your pc be sure that it's not just a bunch of dust clogging your fans. Open your pc and clean out any excess dust, if there has been a lot of it gathered up and you clean it out it may fix your overheating(if that is the problem)

Nah, they just have a stock fan blowing into the GPU.

You was told like 3 times now to stress test the processor and give temperatures, if it crashes under prime95 etc, gogo, most obvious problem

Ima do prime95 right now and see what happens.

EDIT: Okay so I did my prime95 test and after ~1 minute, my 5th core stopped working, then at ~8 minutes the blue screen of death came up. So now we know its my CPU, what should I do? Just get better heat sink cooler?

Check temperatures if you can, otherwise, yes, its almost certainly CPU cooling. You would need to apply thermal paste etc

ur heatsink should be fine. it's just a piece of metal. check to see if the fan is still working. if it is, replace your thermal paste. then you can retest. if you still have that problem, you might want to lower your overclock, if you did at all.

Yeah, my computer automatically does that. I can not load my computer with 6 cores anymore. =[

What? im not completely sure, but i think if not all 6 cores are able to load, then that means ur processor is fried.

Well there is an option on my mother board that "unclocks cores" to get the full 6. But when I enable that in bios to get the full 6 cores, it fails on launch up. Then brings me back to bios

If you have an 1100t you shouldn't have to use a core unlocker to activate all of the cores, they should all be active by default. So it makes sense that the core unlocking process fails. My guess is that your cpu heatsink is installed incorrectly and isn't transferring heat very well, so check all of that stuff.

Okay cool. Yeah idk why my motherboard has the 'core unlocker' option. Thanks!

the core unlock is for unlocking the x3 to an x4
