Hey there,

I've been going through cheapo office chairs on sort of a yearly basis for quite a long while now (cushioning wears out, the "base" is not straight anymore so you get a crooked back), so I think it's time to finally buy a solid, robust and comfortable chair to use (it doesn't need to have wheels).

I'm mostly interested in the type of chairs seemingly every Korean video gamer seems to use (see them here: http://img39.imageshack.us/i/p090808001.jpg/ and here http://playaslife.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/pc-bang.jpg ). I reckon the people buying the equipment consider the fact those players sit on those chairs for 10 or more hours a day, thus buy high(er) quality stuff.

Anyway, I haven't been able to find a good European/German site (Amazon really doesn't help) that offers good, solid chairs. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Go to a local Office Depot, OFfice Max, some furniture place, they have tons of chairs on display, just fit the one that suits you best, this is all personal preference, there is no "best chair" that every one uses

If you have money, the Herman Miller Aeron Chair can't be beat, it is around $800 but it has I think a 12 year warranty.

... did he just suggest an $800 chair. What the hell lol.

Just go to a furniture shop and sit on the displays. You'll find one you love.

An $800 dollar chair, lasts longer than some regular $100 chair, as the OP has said, hes been going through cheap office chairs on a yearly basis.

So if you have the money, and if you ever get the chance to try the Aeron and if you like it, why not spend $800 and buy a chair that'll last you 12 years, instead of buying 1 new chair that'll crap out every year?

i wouldn't do it for durability an 800 dollar chair usually is very adjustable and can work out to be very conformable to sit on.

This is true, but for some people $800 is better spent on something that'll last 12 years, as opposed to something thats super comfortable. However in this case, it is both.

I <3 My Aeron, recommend it to everyone.

I know everyone isn't a baller but it's worth it and will last 10 years or more, as opposed to buying a new office chair every 2 years for $100, which will in the long run make it way more expensive than just buying an aeron now.

You can get decent chairs for about $50-$150 anything beyond that is just having too much money lying around imo

Just keep in mind, that decent chair for $50-$150, probably wont last you 10+ years. Its pretty much the difference between spending a lot now, but having to not spend for a longer period of time, versus spending little now, but having to spend in 1-2 years.

Personally, I like spending more initially but having things last longer.

Although the point is, not everyone can just drop $800 for a chair because they feel like it.

I second, third, fourth, or whatever the person who said to just go to an Office Depot and try out the displays. You'll be surprised by the amount of decent chairs in the sub-$200 range.

Good advice, but the chairs the OP has in images would cost ~800 so it wasn't far off the mark.

If you think about all the time you spend sitting in your chair on your computer, spending all that time in an $800 chair will probably start sounding a lot better. Its even better advice if you happen to work out of your home or something, and spend a lot of time sitting around.

Probably, just imagine the amount of use those chairs get at a PC Bang, it would probably wear down a $100-$150 office chair faster than a year, and imagine the costs incurred in labor and shipping costs on top of the cost of the chair if the PC Bang owner had to change chairs every 6-12 months.

The chair in my other room has been heavily used well over 10 years and it didn't cost $800 brand new loll

Plus what are you doing to your chair to make them only last 1 year??

They have ones very similar to that at idea for like 40 bucks. I'm sure it wouldn't be the exact same thing, but they are quite similar, and very cheap. I'd look into if if you live anywhere near the swedish superstore.

My office chair cost me like $50 and it's been around for 6 years. It's got some tears in it but it's perfectly comfortable and in tact. Don't see why you need to spend $800 to get a chair that lasts longer than 1 year.

Find a office that is having a liquidation sale, and buy an executive office chair for like 75% off I bought my chair for like $50 and retail price was over $350

Not sure about Herman Miller (the gold standard of 8 hour day chairs) but Steelcase also makes pretty nifty chairs. I got my Steelcase Leap from an office liquidation site for $600 which isn't that bad.

I'd probably do the same if I were looking for the Aeron. The authentic versions of these chairs last for a very long time so buying them second hard isn't a major issue.

If you have the money and are willing to make the commitment, the Herman Millers are always praised.

However, I have a nice chair that I bought from Costco for $60 or $80 bucks. It's one of the most comfortable office chairs I've sat in and has been through around 2.5 years. Considering I'm in college, it's been one of the only chairs I've had for some of my time, so it's very used. I'm also a big guy (about 6'3" and over 200 pounds), so that's saying something.

For the average person I would say to just do the normal shopping crawl and buy whatever you find that's the most comfortable and $100 or below. That, for most people, will be cheaper and totally fine.

I too vouch for the Aeron. Mines 4 years old now and I spend several hours per session in it. For me, its the most worth it expense ive made in a long time. I never feel fatigue or crampy, its so adjustable that my ergonomics are perfect... The downside of the chair wasn't the money... It was that now i have trouble gaming or working from a lesser surface. It really changes your perspective.
