Are you going to be lining up or what? There is a Samsung at NCIX store-only for $100. All the sub $100 ~24" monitors on NCIX already sold out. There's an Acer at CC for $110 (in-store only). There's a BenQ at ME for $100.
Pricing does not go down on boxing day. What you see is what you get. Stocks may get refreshed or new items may get added but pricing on the current sale never goes down, it can only go up.
The best monitor deal in Canada is the U2312HM at $200.

Ah I see thanks, I'll go ahead with that 500$ build then throw in a reasonable monitor. I'm glad you mentioned the price matching for ncix I didn't know they did that, probably save myself some money.

All Canadian retailers offer pricematching. And following that $500 build to a tee is a bad idea since most of those components aren't even available in Canada.

I would like to overclock on a i5-2500K setup i am just unsure on the motherboard.
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K HDD - Western Digital 1TB, Caviar Blue RAM - G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 Kit, PC-12800 (1600Mhz) CASE - Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced Case GPU - Gigabyte Geforce GTX560 Ti Overclocked HSF - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
Leaning towards an Asus motherboard but am unsure on what the differences are.
What does http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/41142-p8z68-v-pro offer that http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/42091-p8z68-v-lx doesn't, for overclocking on that setup.
Is there a better option?
I was also unsure on PSU as to how much power i would need, may upgrade to gtx 570 depending on what motherboard price range i get so taking that into account for PSU aswell..
Thanks.

If you can't tell what the difference is between the two boards than you don't need the more expensive board.
But for $139, the P8Z68-M Pro would be a better choice.
A quality 500w unit is fine for an overclocked 2500k and overclocked GTX 570.

The only difference is brand. All of them are 1333MHz cas9 @ 1.5v.
|
@skyR. Thanks man, that is kind of what I figured. I am assuming that brand doesn't matter too much when coming to RAM? Do you have a preference?
edit. Nevermind. I just read that you told someone else that getting the cheapest one works. Thanks again!

I was wondering what settings this set up would run BF3 at and if there were things that I could do to upgrade this build. My budget is 600-700 dollars. Thanks!
|
It'll run reasonably well on high at 1080p. You can upgrade to a Radeon HD6950 1GB or GTX 560 Ti if you want.

Hey guys so this is my first time putting together a computer, and I was wondering how this build would perform on SC2 at 1080p and high settings while streaming/recording, assuming that my internet can handle it. And is it price efficient? thanks! :D
|
Will upgrading only the GPU allow me to run games at a higher quality? For instance, 2 years from now if I wanted to play BF4 (an example) on Ultra, could I upgrade just the GPU to do this? Or would it be a number of things? Or is not so black and white?
BTW: I appreciate what you do. Giving advice to people like me is really giving me an interest in computers and building them. It makes the experience a hundred times better and I thank you (and others).

It's not price efficient but it'll do what you want reasonably well.
Just get the least expensive memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313086 If you have a brand preference than sure you can pay a few dollars extra for it. But paying $10 more for the same memory with a different name and heatspreader on it doesn't really make sense.
I assume you plan on doing SLI... but this isn't really price efficient since the GTX 460 is already pretty dated. You'll have a hard time finding them in stock (or be forced to buy off BST forums) and the 28nm Keplar will likely be very close to a GTX 460 SLI configuration but consume less power and produce less heat.
If you want to throw SLI out the window, I'd get the Asrock P67 Pro3 for $100: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157230 and the Rosewill Capstone 450 for $65: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066
DVD burner for $23 is expensive. Just get the least expensive one which is $16: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136240 or just salvage it from some other computer.
Coolermaster 690ii Advanced is a good case and a case is personal preference so if you like it than you can purchase it. If you don't care about the case than you can just get a Bitfenix Merc Alpha for $40: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63256&promoid=1301 or a Coolermaster HAf 912 for $50: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB isn't a good choice since it's $150. Seagate Barracudas and Western Digital Caviar Blues will be similar in performance but be less expensive. If you want to record, you'll want a secondary drive as well.

Most games are GPU bottlenecked so yes you'll be able to upgrade the GPU in three years and expect to play most of the latest games on reasonably high settings. Some games will be CPU bottlenecked - in which case, a GPU upgrade may improve performance slightly but to make the game truly playable, you'll really need a CPU upgrade (which requires a new motherboard).
The rest of the components don't matter. If you find yourself running out of memory than just add more memory. If you want faster load times than just add an SSD.

I found all but 2 of them in Canada, yay! And those were np np, but you are a saint for putting so much good advice into this thread skyr

The Antec Neo Eco 520C, Xigmatek Asgard II, and Biostar H61MLC are all not available in Canada. You pay Newegg to ship all of this from state-side warehouses.
Generally, HIS cards in Canada aren't priced competitively enough to be an attractive option.
|
@skyR
Thanks man. I hope you don't mind answering one more question. You have been a big help and this should be my last question hopefully! I am looking at cases because the one suggested in one of my first posts is 40 bucks, but with shipping is around 50. I found a couple of cases for 40 dollars, but some of them don't have a 2.5" drive bay. If I were to get a 2.5" SSD could I still use it with a case without a 2.5" drive bay? It seems like a rhetorical question, but I wanted to ask anyway. Thanks man!
|
NCIX has free shipping on orders over $50 and under 200lbs so if you purchase the Bitfenix Merc Alpha along with the DVD burner, the total will be over $50 so you will be getting free shipping.
Yes, you can still put an SSD into a case without a 2.5" drive bay. You can just purchase a 2.5" to 3.5" bay adapter or you can just tape it to your case / leave it hanging or resting on the bottom.
|
Thanks man. You have been a great help.

Yeah I got a different case but the other two seemed cheap enough, I didn't realize canadian stores shipped it like that. But I did find that HIS card for 135~, and wtf ncix does free shipping over 50 dollars? Did I graze over that option because the cheapest one I saw for my order over 50 dollars was like 23~

Only NCIX US offers free shipping on orders over x amount and under x weight. NCIX Canada does not have this offer though their sister companies does.
Canadian retailers ship from Canadian warehouses (usually located in BC or ON). Newegg is an American retailer which has a single warehouse in Canada, most of their items are shipped from state warehouses.
Antec Neo Eco on Newegg.ca is $65 + $10 shipping which equates to $75. This isn't cheap. Better or equivalent power supplies can be had for $60.
And a 6870 for $130 is definitely not available in Canada or even in the states =\
