5770 costs way more than $100, you'd also need a new PSU to go with that

I haven't really checked the prices of configured and prebuilt systems, but this doesn't look too overpriced for what's in it: Athlon II X4 630, HD 5670, 4 GB DDR3, 500 GB 7200 rpm, 600W supply (according to the label), Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, keyboard, mouse. I won't straight-up recommend it for your purposes though.

I got a new desktop (i7 quadcore, windows 7, 8gb ram DELL desktop) currently, really low end graphics card so i bought a new one a couple days ago: Radeon HD4870. I'm having trouble installing it I'm not even sure if I can even use it right now cause here's my problem: the hd4870 has 2 ports for molex adapters, but my power supply only has one. The graphics card came with 2 spare adapters but i don't see any way to connect the spare adapter from the card to the power supply. So my question is: Can I not use this graphics card right now? a. If so, is there another high end card i could get that could run on one molex adapter? b. should i get a new power supply? if so, what kind do i buy (link me to one)? P.S. If someone can help me with this, please PM me so I know someone responded to this. Thankyou

The HD 4870 requires 2 Six pin connectors. The GPU came with two 2 molex to 1 six pin connectors. You connect the two molex to the six pin and then the six pin to the graphics card along with the six pin on your power supply.

1. how big a difference is there between dual core and quad core? (specifically the AMD Athlon II X2 240(2.8GHz) and the AMD Athlon II X4 630(2.8GHz)) 2. as i understand it, the ATI hd 5670 is superior to the GT240 but how big a difference is there with the memory difference? (specifically between the ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB and NVIDIA GeForce GT240 1GB graphics cards) in other words, if the 5670 is superior to the 240 other things equal does the memory difference matter a lot? thanks for your help, still trying to learn all i can

2. The HD 5670 is indeed superior to the GT 240. In general, it is fairly significant if I remember correctly. Make sure when you buy the GT 240 that you get the 512MB GDDR5 version. The 1GB GDDR3 version is inferior to the 512MB GDDR5 version. The size of the memory doesn't matter because the GDDR5 is twice as fast as the GDDR3. The Size of the memory only matters when you start to apply AA, do triple buffering, or go to high resolutions. haduken: I don't see a problem with it. If you really are concerned, get the 1GB.

USA is a mature market with good customer base and the run rates means that companies like newegg can sell to the mass and still make money on tiny margins. They probably sell their bundles at a loss to attract customers. I wouldn't be surprised if HK market is monopolized by one or two suppliers and the retailers are dumped with prices.

I don't see any reason to upgrade it and gain minimal performance increases.. I'd like to remind you that while SC2 is a big part of my gaming life right now I do play a lot of other more demanding games, also the cpu upgrade is not minimal at all, my current has ZERO L3 cache and the one I linked has 8mb thats actually pretty big, also while it wont help with SC2 it also has hyperthreading which is very nice in games/programs that support it, the overall speed is also faster, especially when you take the Turbo mode into accout, it automaticly OCs the cores depending on which ones are being used, higher over clock the less the other cores are used. (yay 2 core in sc2)

![]() keep in mind we're mostly building towards sc2 specs. you probably should have mentioned this was for more than sc2 in your original post if you didn't want flak on the overspec'd new pc you're building.
