A note on replays:
+ Show Spoiler +
Please send them to Betacontest gmail.com
If you have me on MSN, that is also fine as I will be logged in all day.

For round 2 on Coulee, please take a screenshot of the victory screen (and save the replay anyway). This will only be required to be submitted if there is any dispute

Several replays are missing from the first tournament, I will find out which exactly later.

Just a quick piece of info for those playing:
+ Show Spoiler +

Brackets will be created at the scene (as with random teams, you can not make brackets until you know who shows up). If there is an uneven amount of teams, Byes will be given.

If there are 48 players or less (but more than 32), then the RMA and 2cp2 rounds will change places, and the overall format will be 3v3 instead of 4v4. The finals are then a 3 player FFA.

If there are 32 players or less, one round will be cut (likely RMA, but the players left at that point will have their say). The overall format will remain 4v4, however. Finals remain 4 man FFA.

Note:
I sent out PMs to everyone playing in Tour 2 - IF you do not see yourself on the Tour 2 list in the first post (or in any other tour that you can play), or if you do see yourself there but haven't seen a PM, contact me as there has most likely been a mix-up somewhere.

Note also that there was one disconnect in the first round of the tournament, and the decision was made to give the non-disconnected team the win. Upon further review however, I've decided that it's a bit too close a call, and as such players GoShox, Achim and ChessWhiz will be allowed to enter a second tournament (if for some reason the PMs I sent you did not get through, contact me).

For everyone playing:
The channel for Tour 2 is "Ironman Tour-2" on ICCUP (without the citation marks).

I have double checked this so it SHOULD be right.

If we get 32 people for a tour, we will cut the Random Micro Arena round. If we get 48 players, we will play 3v3 instead of 4v4.

If we get somewhere inbetween (ie 38 players), some players will have to be cut, but will then be first in line as reserves for any of the other tours. Yes, this sucks (honestly, it would really, really, really suck) but I don't see another solution..

UPDATE
I was trying to fall asleep when something hit me tho, and I had to get back up.

It's totally my fault for not realizing this could be a problem until this very moment :/ I went by the calendar when making the dates, and was thus completely thinking in "TL Time", but I'm almost sure more than 1 of you (understandably) will have gotten the dates wrong because of this.

So, to be 100% clear:
I was trying to fall asleep when something hit me tho, and I had to get back up. The dates:
Tour 1 - Thursday July 16th 3:00 AM KST (8 PM CET, 2 PM EST)
Tour 2 - Friday July 17th 7:00 AM KST (12 AM CET, 6PM EST)
Tour 3 - Saturday July 18th - 3:00 AM KST (8 PM CET, 2 PM EST)
Tour 4 - Sunday July 19th 7:00 AM KST (12 AM CET, 6PM EST)

I just realized that a lot of people are not going to realize that July 16th 3:00 AM KST = July 15th 8 PM CET / 2PM EST. When making the dates I obviously went by the Teamliquid Calendar, but I'm 100% sure more than 1 person is going to have gotten this wrong (I hate timezones, I hate timezones, I hate timezones, I hate timezones).

So:
Tour 1 - Thursday July 16th 3:00 AM KST (8 PM CET Wednesday July 15th, 2 PM EST Wednesday July 15th)

Tour 2 - Friday July 17th 7:00 AM KST (12 AM CET Note that this is technically on Friday July 17th, but it's at midnight Thursday->Friday, 6PM EST Thursday July 16th)

Tour 3 - Saturday July 18th 3:00 AM KST (8 PM CET Friday July 17th, 2 PM EST Friday July 17th)

Tour 4 - Sunday July 19th 7:00 AM KST (12 AM CET Note that this is technically on Sunday July 19th, but it's at midnight Saturday->Sunday, 6PM EST Saturday July 18th)

If you need to change your dates because of this, please let me know ASAP.
[HR]

If we don't make 64 players per tournament, we will be running 48 or 32 man versions. At 48, it will be 3v3 instead of 4v4, at 32 we will cut the Random Micro Arena round, but otherwise it will work the same.[/blue]

I'm remaking the thread here, as it's about to get bumped out of the front page - easier to keep track of questions this way. Still a decent number of spots left for those who asked.

It took us a while longer than we'd have liked to sort all the details out, but as of this writing the signed license should be on its way back to Blizzard HQ

So without further ado, re-introducing the...

Maps

Ro64 - Neo Abattoir - Random Team 4v4
+ Show Spoiler [Map Information] +

A 64x64 version of the map Abattoir (aptly named Neo Abattoir), created specifically for this tournament. Blood Bath on crack.

Some notes about the map:
- Placing a building in the colored choke is a perfect wall with units spawning on the safe side.
- Every base has one mineral patch that is exposed to another base. This mineral is separate so that good players can redirect workers away from cannons / sunkens / etc.
- The terrain in between bases is high ground. This means you will need something to grant vision if you want to cannon your opponent's mineral patch.

Players will be randomly teamed up and square off in a 4v4.
Game Mode: Top vs Bottom

Ro32 - Coulee - Random Team Capture The Flag
+ Show Spoiler [Map Information] +

For Round 2 we have both an unusual gametype as well as an unusual map. Created by TL member Mora, aka Teroru, back in 2005, it was used for that years Blizzcon Invitational.

Team Capture the Flag is a sadly under-played game mode which functions like a regular Team Melee game (that is, several players control one player), but with the added twist of a flag..
Capturing the opposing teams flag will result in a win, just as if you had eliminated them.
Game Mode: Team Capture the Flag

Note:Each team will have to pick 1 of each race - that is P T R Z. Which one is your main race (which determines what building you start with) is up to each team to decide.

Ro16 - Random Micro Arena
+ Show Spoiler [Map Information] +

Random Micro Arena is a team based UMS, more similiar to Tournament Control than - as the name would suggest - the more traditional Team Micro Arena.

Players are given a random set of units every round (activated by morphing your high templars), and do battle vs the opposing team. Only one player is active at any given time, but once per round (of which there are 8), you may elect to "tag" in one of your team mates.

Should you not tag, your team mate will replace you once you die - until there's only one player left standing, winning the round.
Game Mode: Use Map Settings

Ro8 - 2c2p v 2c2p - Sin City
+ Show Spoiler [Map Information] +

Sin City is an interesting but fairly standard map, created by Peatza[Ag] on Broodwarmaps.net, so let's jump right to the game-type: 2c2p v 2c2p.

You may be asking yourself just what the hell this is, and I don't blame you. Not many people regularly play 4v4s with computer allies

Teams of 2 players and 2 computers will face off against eachother, with the winners advancing to the FFA finals.

Important Note:
Players are NOT allowed to abuse the computer A.I by attacking one of their workers or buildings with their scouting peon (causes all A.I workers to chase said peon). If you should happen to do so by accident, you MUST leave your peon to its fate, unless it is your last peon (and you have no means of replacing it).

Secondly, while players are free to set their own race, as well as that of their computer allies, you cannot have more than 2 of each race on a team. PPTT is fine, PPPT is not. PTZZ, also fine etc.

Game Mode: Top vs Bottom

Ro4 - Mystique/Unreality - FFA
+ Show Spoiler [Map Information] +

Having made it this far, it's time for some regular FFA.. on a couple of mind-twistingly beautiful maps.

Both maps are made by Freakling from http://www.broodwarmaps.net , and not surprisingly they both won Map of the Month awards. If you want to leave him a comment on the maps you can do so here:
Mystique
Unreality

Mystique will be the FFA map for Tour 1 and Tour 4.
Unreality will be the FFA map for Tour 2 and Tour 3.

The winning player will recieve 2 beta keys, one for him-or herself, and one for a person of their choosing.

Players should use the Observer version of the maps (O), and one referee will be present as an observer.

Game Mode: Use Map Settings

Replays
Replays must be saved for all games, and sent in after each round to betacontest@gmail.com
For game modes where replays cannot be saved, please take a screenshot of the score screen and send it to the same address.

Bugs
The following bugs are legal for use in games:
+ Show Spoiler +

- Observer over turret
- Units pressed through
- Drops to defuse mines
- Mineral walk
- Hold lurker
- Larvae Move

The following bugs are illegal for use in games:
+ Show Spoiler +

- Cargo glitch
- Flying drones and templars
- Terran sliding buildings
- A bug which allows your units to remain stacked while moving/attacking
- Team modifications (Allied mines, Unallied mines, etc.)
- Sieging a Tank inside of a landed Terran Building
2c2p v 2c2p specific:
Players are NOT allowed to abuse the computer A.I by attacking one of their workers with their scouting peon (causes all A.I workers to chase said peon). If you should happen to do so by accident, you MUST leave your peon to its fate.

Using an illegal bug will result in an instant forfeit of the game in which the bug use occurred.

If you signed up for this tournament when it was first announced, you will not have to sign-up again. You will be first in line, and receive a PM, simply reply with what tournament times you prefer.
If you signed up but did not receive a PM, please PM me. Include the date/time for when you sent the PM, and if it was sent to the BetaContest account (correct) or my account (incorrect, but still valid).

Send a PM, with the following info:

ICCUP ID:
E-mail:
2nd beta key goes to..: (Insert name, contact info and TL ID, if applicable, of the person you wish to give your 2nd key to, should you win)

In addition, please mark down the tournaments you'd wish to attend in order of preference (1-4, with 1 being "most prefered"). If you can't make all of the tournaments simply mark down N/A for the ones you cannot.

Tour 1: 1
Tour 2: N/A
Tour 3: 2
Tour 4: 3

Note that you will only actually play in ONE of these tournaments.

Reserves:
To prevent no-shows ruining the tournament, feel free to show up even if you didn't make it into the bracket. A channel for reserves will be announced closer to the tournament dates.

Disclaimer:
The selling of beta-keys is strictly prohibited.
Should you be caught trying to sell your key, you will be permanently banned and the key disabled.

Total participants: 256

As soon as it fills up so we can make brackets :/

IIRC You signed up fairly early so you should almost definitely have your first pick.

Probably not livestream, and the plan is to have the entire tournament finish on the day it starts.

I have been a frequent visitor to TL since 2007, but I never created an account. Do I have a chance at being in this tourney even though I just created an account?

A livestream FFA of 4 players sounds hilarious exciting :D Hopefully they'll be some great players too.

Edit: Doh, I thought I had read about a stream earlier Now I see there wont be one.

I don't really know - but the goal is definitely to have each tournament done in the night it started.

Questions:

1. Will the bracket be available before the tournament or right when it begins?

2. Are we allowed to discuss a game plan or strategy before the tournament starts if brackets are released beforehand?

3. In CTF, only workers can pick up the flag, and you must bring that worker back to your own flag with the enemy flag in order to win?

4. In RMA, is tag glitching allowed? (It may have gotten fixed in the newest version, i don't know. It is when you have a spell casting unit, lets say a vessel. You irradiate a enemy mech or a high hp unit and tag yourself, resetting the spawn and thus the irradiate will kill everything the guy has that is not mech. It can be done with storm, plague, emp, and mines too)

5. Computer AI abuse: Can we use a unit to run around in circles to distract their army? (Like i use a marine and walk it around making zealots chase it instead of going to my base)

6. Policy on secret alliances/teaming up in the FFA?

iirc, you can't ally players in FFA, only in Melee so I'm not sure how that will work. Dual attacks I can understand. Diplomacy is fun

Yes, that's what I meant lol. Like you attack, trade, and they are left with little/no units and the guy you whispered comes in for the kill :D

Fairly certain you can ally in FFA. Given that you probably won't know the other players in the game you will have to be playing a fairly tight game of diplomacy in order to win. FFA is one hell of a difficult beast to win.

Yep, the plan is to broadcast each final game and a "best of" selection from the other rounds.

3. Yep!
4. No, seems a bit too abusive But good thing you brought that up, I didn't know about it.
5. That's fine, as long as you don't make all their probes chase your scouting worker it's all good.

You are wrong because one of the players will be the one you've just won 2p2c v 2p2c with .

And the winner of the tournament gets 2 beta keys, so.... make a deal with your 2p2c partner that you guys team up in FFA and winner gives the other guy a key

Might not be much of an FFA in final round :s

Tour 1 is full =]
Tour 2 is @ 48 people
Tour 3 is @ 42 people
Tour 4 is @ 34 people

(then there's 7 people who can join any of them, so they aren't counted, and like 20 people who haven't submitted their prefered dates yet *stern look -.-*)

If we don't make 64 players per tournament, we will be running 48 or 32 man versions. At 48, it will be 3v3 instead of 4v4, at 32 we will cut the Random Micro Arena round, but otherwise it will work the same.

Hopefully you'll all know what brackets you are in tomorrow, but Dewis I can say you are CURRENTLY in Tour 4 (your 2nd choice) and GGTeMpLaR you are currently in Tour 1 (your first choice).

You have no idea how pissed I am at myself for only thinking about the time when setting the dates..

Setting dates by Korean time, living in European time and trying to accomodate for North American time at the same time =

Guess that's what happens when you've never organized a tournament before..

Good update. I would have missed that to be honest. That's what brainless reading does to you
But that means tour1 is tomorrow! If I haven't received a PM saying that I should show up for Tour1, does that mean I'm not in the 64? I'll be showing up anyways to try and take a no-show's spot, but I'm just wondering.

edit: woops, didn't realize the question had been asked ten times before

If you can ONLY play 1 date, you will almost 100% get it (unless the new timezone issue causes everyone to pick only 1 date). Previous to the timezone debacle, everyone who had only 1 date picked got it, and nobody had worse than their 2nd pick.

Hopefully this can stay the same. I'll post up groups as they look like soon, but people need to keep in mind that changes will be made as people receive the timezone PM (if you get it, PM back plz - even if just to say "no changes").

I will say one thing about this tournament - I've learned how important clarity is when organizing big events.

I immediately regretted not including a "contact me regardless" clause

I'd like to add that if you do not see your name on the list, please PM me and I'll add you. These lists are only final in the sense that if you are on it, you will get to play - you are still welcome to sign-up.

I did double check the list but mistakes happen (twice, already..).

If you have not received a PM with the ICCUP channel/my contact info but you are in Tour 1, please let me know.

If there's something like 38 players why not just have some of the first rounds be 4v4s and some of them be 3v3s and go from there?

I just tested something - on Neo abattoir, protoss walls all have units spawning on the wrong side except for the uppermost left. On the lowermost left goons spawn on the right side, on all they rest they always spawn on the wrong side unless blocked from doing so by other units (probe, zealot, goon, etc.).
Edit : To get a perfect wall you have to put the gateway half in and half off of the colored part. It leaves a choke but one zealot blocks it perfectly. (This isn't in the information on the map in the OP, probably should be).

When the draw is made for the each round and I see what player(s) I am allying, will we have 5-10 minutes say to talk about strategies, or be expected to start pretty much straight away?

It's from when I made the list, it basically denotes how high up their list the choice was.
No number = 1st and only choice
1st, 2nd etc = 1st choice, 2nd choice
2 or 4 = 2 or 4

Etc

hey, i've got a problem. i am in tour 3 now which starts at 8 PM CET, but my soccer training lasts till exactly 8 PM (actually it's the season's first train ;. after that i must walk home, take a shower and eat something, so i will be able at 8.30 PM.
if this is a problem please switch me to tour 4. also if i dont want to, it looks like i have to live one night without sleep

I'll switch you to tour 4, it's easier that way (and tour 3 has the most participants anyway).

"hasn't replied..."

i didn't receive a mail, which sounded like i need to reply. i thought its just like an information mail.
i really don't care which tourney, timezone or whatever. if it's 4.30h in the morning for me, i'll just get up an hour earlier and i'm fine

I have a question about the FFA. In real FFA mode (the blizzard actual game setting) it is the same as 1v1 mode in that you cannot vision or ally the other players. Please tell me it is against the rules to ally other players because if so it's not FFA...

For everyone playing:
The channel for Tour 1 is "Ironman Tour-1" on ICCUP (without the citation marks).

So when is the broadcast? It is supposed to be now when the tournament is still on, later from replays, or what?

From the OP:

Throughout the next week we will be running four 64-man tournaments, each culminating in a FFA final to be broadcasted right here on Teamliquid!

Meaning that, most likely, no games will be officially broadcast by TL with the exception of the four FFA finals.
Think. :)

Facing JF in the first round. A loss, obviously.

Tour 1 is over, results in first post.

Congrats to the winner and thanks to everyone for coming - replays will be uploaded in due time (they are low priority, high priority is answering the 25 pms I've gotten in the past hours).

Dude you have no idea how fun the RMA map was for me as an observer haha

Seeing as how Fear_Chaos on your team had to go after that game, and it was soooo close, I was on the edge of my seat hoping for the other team to win so I wouldn't have to postpone the finals.

It was nailbiting.

And when no_re's marines moved instead of attacked those reavers at the end... heartattack time.

Just a quick piece of info for those playing:

Participants for Tour 3 should have all received a PM with their information now. If you did not, let me know and I will get on it.

A note on replays:
Please send your replays for every round to Betacontest@gmail.com
If you have me added on MSN, that is also an acceptable way of sending them.

For round 2 on Coulee, please take a screenshot of the victory screen (and save the replay anyway). This will only be required to be submitted if there is any dispute.

Yes, this is the only reason.

We can't have livestreams, as it means there's a risk someone will cheat.

Only 3 hours this time - hopefully the others will follow a similiar pattern :O

I must say I got really lucky to end up with a perfect 42 players tho, so I "only" needed to put 2 byes and everyone could play. Also lucky one of the late entrants showed up and took over for someone with lag problems (thanks GTR <3 saved me).

I have the FFA replay from today, but I'll hold off on posting it in case FA is doing something special with them.

I don't see why we need to wait for FA to upload them all, what's the point of that?

I wanna see the finals right now? Was the game even epic? =P... And just curious, what's your iCCup rank?

As I recall without checking it's a bit over 30 minutes long. It was PvPvP, featuring dozens of carriers.

I don't have a specific iccup rank as I don't play iccup or really low money actually (I just spend the majority of my time playing BGH).

This tourney is a test of teamwwork with random people, especially in team CTF round. We (my team) have lost it, even thought it was the round I had perfectly planned out because... we couldn't even execute a simple build order (also when two people micro the same unit its worse than no micro at all ;p)... Yet we could have won it if we had flied the shuttle with the flag directly to the side of the map.
I would play such tourney again even without prizes, great fun, really exciting games and most people have enough SC skills to win it.

(15:04:32) (tinyitw) The channel for Tour 2 is "Ironman Tour-2" on ICCUP (without the citation marks).
(15:04:41) (tinyitw) so i imagine it's "Ironman tour-3" on iccup
(15:04:43) (tinyitw) for this one?

Did the iccup server just go down?

Edit: Guess it was just me when I tried to ping the server.
