Blizzard Entertainment® gaming celebration to return to Anaheim Convention Center on August 21-22
PARIS, France -- February 17, 2009 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans for its fourth BlizzCon® gaming convention, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22. BlizzCon is a celebration of the global player communities surrounding Blizzard Entertainment®’s Warcraft®, StarCraft®, and Diablo® universes. In response to the festival’s increasing popularity, this year’s event has been expanded from three convention halls to four.
“We’ve been amazed by the incredible response to each of our previous BlizzCon events,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re pleased to be bringing the convention back to Anaheim this year, and we look forward to this new opportunity to meet Blizzard gamers from around the world.”
BlizzCon will offer a wide variety of activities throughout the two-day event. In addition to serving as a gathering place for Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, attendees will be able to enjoy:
• Hands-on play time with upcoming Blizzard Entertainment games • Discussion panels with Blizzard Entertainment developers • Competitive and casual tournaments for players to showcase their talents • Community contests with great prizes • Commemorative merchandise based on Blizzard Entertainment’s game universes • A silent auction • More exciting activities and attractions to be announced Further details, including ticket availability and pricing, will be announced on the official BlizzCon website, http://www.blizzcon.com, as the event draws closer.
To keep pace with the continued growth of World of Warcraft as well as development on other Blizzard Entertainment games, the company is currently hiring for numerous open positions. More information on available career opportunities can be found at http://eu.blizzard.com/en/jobs/

mass shitstorm coming about progamer's invitation..
|
Wow I am really going to try to go this year.
|
when i look so at the dates all betas from blizz games take like 4-5 months and sc2 ll be out in 2009 let say december 12 minus 4 or 5 that makes august or september the release of the beta
|
Yeah, I'm definitely saving up and gonna try to go this year, even though it's so far away. I hope there's another TL meetup.
|
Noooo! That's 1-2 days after I move to Hong Kong for studying abroad.

My thoughts exactly. If it is announced here then we are looking at a 2010 release (roughly a 5 month beta based on their previous betas)
|
I'm going ...been to last 2. Definitely going for the hanging-out though, I feel like the content is going to be the same once again. They should have a sick ladder tourney though for guests, there's no good ways to compete really.
|
Of course I'll be going. Paying or not.
They probably added the extra hall (which is probably mostly bullshit) just to enable them to sell more tickets. Buildings have capacity codes, this way they can get around those and sell more tickets ^_- instead of 500 on ebay from scalper fags who buy 10 tickets when they are sold out asap.
Maybe I can actually get some real game time playing d3 this year instead of waiting an hour to play 5 minutes. And hopefully the beta key will be for d3 and sc2 beta will already be going on so I don't even need to play sc2 there.

Predictions: - We will see a preview of the new MMO - More D3 class reveals - D3 beta keys - SC2 purchasable about a week or two before it goes on sale at stores (also predicting beta is in April or May)

I suppose it's a guaranteed hit so they don't need to time it right before the holidays, but I still doubt Blizzard/Activision will put the game out right before school starts.
|
What happened to WWI? Don't they usually have that early in the summer and then blizzcon a few months later?
|
Hopefully I can salvage enough money to attend my first one.
|
Hopefully if I get into either Stanford of Caltech, I'll be visiting there too as well.
|
Well from Stanford you'd still have a long ways to go to get to Anaheim... haha...
|
Hopefully I can get a ticket.
|
|
HOLY SHIT!!! I hope I could go... but probably not.

Maybe Ill hit thehttp://www.Magiccastle.com up while I'm in the area wold be so fun.

As long as Im still in the area and not deployed for the Air-Force, I'll attend but more than likely I wont be here unless I deploy in the next month or two.
Pretty sure the wife and baby wont mind if Im gone for a weekend when they're getting full benefits and a military paycheck every 2 weeks.

I really need to figure out how i'm going to afford to go all the way to California from VA

Aren't plane tickets fairly inexpensive nowadays?
I'm flying to Boston and back for like... 250$
|
Considering its August, they're going to be more expensive. I looked for myself and its $400 to LA and back.

Ditto. The cheapest I can find at the moment is around 450 with tax included. I really, really want to go and I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to have 600 dollars ready by then (I'm so poor ) to spend on just the flight+ticket to the event. :\

Guess I'm going to prefer Caltech over Stanford then, lol.

Oh man I hope i can goooooooo
I want to hang with all the cool kids
|
Now look at that.
The date with the end of August fits great to the end of the comic contest:
From the "Vespene Laughs Comic Contest" rules [...] the Contest beginning October 15, 2008 through August 31, 2009 [...] So if all things come together there, what could eventually happen then?^^

I got a similar result, although I was not using Madrid as a starting point. And this is not even counting hotel expenses and the BlizzCon ticket itself.
Oh well, I guess we will just have to hope that Blizzard or someone else does a video/audio stream again.

It's about damn time they announced the ticket sales. I really wanted to book my hotel ahead of time, but after the fiasco last year, I didn't want to risk it. I'd like to stay at the Hilton this time around, however, a month ago tickets for two + 3 nights at the Hilton was $640ish, and now it's close to $1000. :/

<NUKED SHIT I WROTE>
]UPDATE I heard rumors the stream wasn't free. I freaked out. Apparently it's only the DirecTV Pay Per View stream (as an alternative way to see it if you don't have DirecTV). I am still confirming some information... but I was worried that the tournament feed was going to be pay and that would have been a huge disappointment.
Back to my cave until I find some concrete info ^_^

The event will again deliver a minimum of eight hours of live HD coverage from the show floor on each day of the convention, including exclusive interviews, demos, and more. In addition, in the weeks ahead DIRECTV will offer a BlizzCon promotion for those interested in signing up for the DIRECTV television service. New subscribers through this promotion will receive the DIRECTV BlizzCon Pay Per View event, the Internet stream, and the BlizzCon 2009 World of Warcraft in-game item for the price of becoming a new DIRECTV customer. Again I didn't want to cause too much alarm because it's so unclear as to whether or not the "Tournament Feed" they've had in the past will still exist. My initial concern was because they didn't mention it, the only "internet stream" they would have is the DirecTV one. Which of course would probably mean less games and more cosplay. I honestly haven't heard much news other than some rumblings... and that's why this sort of took me by surprise.
I'm gonna try to get some more info.
