StarCraft comic contest winners Congratulations to the winners of our first monthly StarCraft "Vespene Laughs" Comic Contest! We'd like to thank everyone who participated -- we received many hilarious and creative comics from all around the world, and picking the winners wasn't easy.
To enter the monthly comic contest, simply submit your StarCraft-themed entry by the last day of the month. Check out the official rules for more information – and keep coming back for more Vespene Laughs in the future.
1st: Matthew Socia
2nd: Elijah Kiowas Jones
3rd: Kris Sauquillo
Blizzard offically announced the final winners. I didn't get first, but 3rd is better than nothing.
Anyone who doesn't understand one of these, remember it's an SC2 contest. You have to dumb yourself down by about 15 years, some of you were still in diapers then.
Were the prizes not that big for this contest? I figured there'd be some really polished submissions but like 1st place goes to some dude who took a screenshot and added some text in like MS paint.
I mean compared to the usual response Blizz gets for art submissions (not even contests, just their fanart program) this stuff is pretty weak.

Definently agree with this guy Looks like all of them but the comic one are half-assed
The second one is clever, but I think the time that went into number three should have bumped it into the top two; possible number one.
Number one just isn't that funny. I didn't laugh or really find it amusing. Number two would have been best if it had some artwork akin to number three.
yeah wow, i really wasn't a fan of any of the first three (although i don't entirely get the joke in #3.... is it just the guy is pointlessly microing when he would be doing better just keeping his zealot still?)
But the zealot + marine + goon walk into a bar is hilarious, not to mention much more professional looking than the other 3... How did it not win :\

You don't think the idea of number two and the art of number three were clever?
About as clever as CharlieMurphy.

Driving the point home.
Asbolutely loved Sigrun's. The first and second place entries look like something someone threw together in a minute to submit hoping to hit a 1000 to 1 chance that the judges have an off sense of humor. Maybe Sigrun's comic wasn't selected because you need to have actually played the game to understand it.
I think I've seen the third comic 4-6 times already whether it be voluntary or accidental, and I think the "stuff in your nose" line feels dumber every time.

I think his comic not winning has more to do with 'negative' or 'funny' takes on things going on in there biggest project . Also the bare assed bartender and diablo 3 2011 in the background.
haha i read your comic at work sigrun and i burst out into laughing after seeing the door still being stuck to that goon haha, ppl were looking at me like im crazy or something :D gj, too bad you didnt win... i think it was the hairy ass :D
edit: as for the other 3... somehow they don't load... maybe it's the internet at work or something ill check em later at home
I'm going to take a guess and say that the people who read Sigrum's comic laughed but knew they couldn't post it because it would criticize the company.
Dude... Sig wins, WTF, how is he not in the top 3? There are so many funny little details in his comic that you overlook the first time you see it... it's these details that make the comic so great.

Dunno, in the Sandlot logo contest, the TL pony came in 6th out of 9 or so. Blizz ranked PgR21's plaintext logo higher.

The Starcraft instruction book has an ad for Diablo 2 with a 1998 release date. The Brood War instruction book has an ad for Diablo 2 with a 1999 release date. It released in 2000.
Btw, I don't get the "stuff in your nose" joke either.
I didn't know about this contest until it was too late. Oh well, looks like I wouldn't have won anyway. I probably would have submitted this SC2 comic my site posted several months ago:

Well, actually it is too late for winning the iPod and sort of stuff shown there, but that was the first round, and there will be another. (I think there are monthly winners?) Anyway, you should stay tuned, because in my opinion you can reach a prize with this comic.

I think this would've done better then the three chosen.
yeah the three in the OP are not funny at all imo. Unless the "stuff in the nose" is some reference I don't get. This one is A LOT better than those three.

seriously, that's absolutely terrible
The first time I read it I was desperately trying to find some joke that I had missed. Now, it rests peacefully in my sig for your and other's enjoyment!

There's more than one direct links posted... Or just go to whichever starcraft2 site works for you and find it...
It's not that easy. Here I only get the Image Loading... message, and if I try to go to the link, I get redirected to the eu subdomain with an error page. Inside the eu sc2 site (at least the spanish one) only the contest rules are available. And because the region system is IP based I can't change where I'm from without using proxys and stuff, and being so bad jokes (according to the thread) I won't waste a minute trying to fake an usa IP to read them xD

Ever heard of the Godmode-Cheat "power overwhelming"? One SCV kills a dozen Lings.
Yeah, the cheat is obvious. Had trouble making connections to the units initially. Heh. That looked way too scary to be an SCV - My first impression was a huge mech walking on a generic boneyard.
The vg one is already disected to bits in the vg thread and the other two comics are seriously just really boring. The first one is just plain bad, and the second one you really have to have an explanation for to understand the joke. There really should be some reading up on the presidental syndrome before sitting down and trying to be funny in a niched comic...
