See also: Valkyrie. The only Terran combat unit without a special secondary command (siege mode, spider mine, stim) or alternate attack (goliath air missiles vs. ground machine gun, yamato cannon).

It was supposed to have a speed boost, but they didn't like the overlord-hunting cheese it enabled, so they took it out and never gave it anything else (like cluster bombs or defensive chaff) to make it interesting again.

I think an incomplete concept is a good reason to leave an unsatisfying unit out of Starcraft 2.

Don't let the Nomad be an incomplete concept! Do SOMETHING with it to make it conceptually consistent, or replace it, or it will suck!

Yeah, the Queen originally had the Muta's 3 hit Glaive Worm attack (probably less damage), so it was a fighter with spells. During the beta they decided to further separate roles, and the Queen kind of got the shaft after losing the attack. They apparently felt that broodling plus air attack was too good against tanks and high templar. Also remember that was done when stim left you with no way to heal your marines, so air was scarier. Not sure it would be too powerful in today's world, but that's history now.
