I'm sad we didn't get open bracket Serral, it would have been a fun story to follow. Wonder what Serral's cooked up in ZvP for the new maps, or if he'll just try and coast off of his base skill.

Excited to see what Rogue brings to the table, he lost in Code S but looked decent. I doubt he'll beat Solar, but Elazer and Skillous will be good tests.

So much KR vs KR in the open bracket is unfortunate. I would like to actually get to see a lot of mid tier KR vs mid tier EU and NA for once. Seems the brackets always work out this way though.

Honestly I think you'll get plenty, considering it's impossible to advance in the open bracket to playoffs without eventually playing a korean.

As an aside, I'm expecting Koreans to completely wreck face this tournament. KR v KR finals. Likely Maru-herO again unless they knock each other out before.

There are definetly some interesting storylines here:
- Technically this is Marus tournament to lose...can he *finally* win something outside of Asia?
- How in form is Serral? While Nice should be doable, herO/Reynor is already tough. Generally curious to see how good he works through the Knockout Stage/if he can take Bo5s.
- Can Reynor beat his downwards spiral?
- Will herO capitalize?
- How good is Rogue by now?
- Should Maru fail as usual, the next in line to win it should be Clem...another ESL-win for him?

Sadly, Showtime won't be around. He really could have used the points to maybe overtake Spirit? Now it seems almost guaranteed that he will have to slug through the Qualifier if he wants to make it to Riyhad...

"So much" are two (if I counted correctly) matches out of 16 in the Open Bracket, one more in the Winner Bracket...

My prediction:
Winner Bracket: Clem - Maru - herO - Dark
Open Bracket: Gumi - Creator - Solar - Skillous - Byun - DRG - Bunny - Nightmare.

While I think Maru and Serral are the more favorite as usual, Dark might be the one who can get a run going. We want a Zerg to win so that nothing will change until EWC.

Pretty much this. Mostly excited to see Serral. Wondering what opportunity he had to practice at all. On paper, Maru must be the favorite now, with Serral having been taken out by the service. Anyway, we might see a good story.

Hasnt it only been like 2 months since he 4-0 maru? I doubt his shape could change that much since then. And its not like zerg has to practice build orders and stuff

True, he's still Serral, so he will be very good at worst.

However, it has been three months of limited time to play, plus a new patch, plus new maps, plus the general distraction caused by the military routine during the week. This will certainly have some impact. Also, it's wrong to say that zerg doesn't have to practice build orders at all. In fact, remember that two of his wins at Katowice against Maru were sharply executed specific builds.

Anyway, we'll find out about his form soon enough.

Depending on form, Clem might be the favorite, or herO?
Zergs are probably gonna show up for the big $ tournament and let T/P win the small stuff as usual :

If Solar (who won GSL last year) can't beat Rogue (who has been playing for a month or so and looks as bad as every other military returnee when they get back) he should just call it a career.

Lol don't suggest to Solar it unless it is because of military service. Otherwise, Korean Zerg talents will be extinct with Soo, Dark, Rogue, DRG and Shin are the only competitive programmers left in the scene. Now, I am missing Impact who is always making regular appearance in Code S.

Rogue did 2-0 Reynor in the Korean ESL cup this week! But I'm sure everyone is sandbagging it so close to this tournament...

Ah yes, ESL cups. Reynor is famous for taking those super seriously! But in all fairness, Solar vs Rogue will be pretty interesting. Rogue should be capable of all the same shenanigans DRG did vs Solar. On the other hand, Rogue got styled on by Dark, and I'd normally rate Solar over Dark in ZvZ atm (despite his loss vs DRG shaking that belief).

What are people putting for power rank?

Me:

1. Maru
2. Clem
3. herO
4. Dark
5. Serral
6. Cure

And then I think a bunch of players below that are roughly equal.

Honestly expecting Serral to still be good but not uh championship-winning form. Then I think Maru and Clem are going to be the two best players but Maru will have the edge in TvT.

I think it's really an unknown, but clear that he's able to practice significantly more than the Korean military, where you have almost no time. We'll find out from interviews soon.

But we can dream!

To be honest, solid underdogs are the main reason I'm watching tourneys. Once it boils down to the regulars (Maru, Serral, Clem, etc) I tend to lose focus a bit.

In the one match Serral played (vs Coffee) he looked a bit sloppy in the first game and crushed the second game. I would imagine that even if Serral's level is still high, only playing 1 competitive match for months would make him a bit shaky in tournament play.

That being said, Kato Serral was a monster - probably one of the single highest peaks we've seen of anyone in SC2. Serral at 90% of his Kato form would still be a slight favorite to win.

Solar vs Rogue in the first game in bracket B is rough :p

Ufff. Gumiho gets a Marsbar and Solar gets Rogue... Dayum

If Solar (who won GSL last year) can't beat Rogue (who has been playing for a month or so and looks as bad as every other military returnee when they get back) he should just call it a career.

Would you like to rephrase that?

Every time I give him any credit he loses. Losing this way is such a Solar thing to do.

I talked about Solar and his awful time in Proleague in this article: https://tl.net/forum/starcraft-2/562437-the-good-the-bad-and-ridiculous-of-proleague-pt-1

Solar the GOAT player to put on your anti-team in FPL

Trigger looks so nervous. Poor kid. Lets hope he can keep it under control and fight vs Dark, but I don't really believe the way Feardragon does.

E: lol, ouch. That was brutal. The reason Nydus didn't work that well vs Stats is clearly that he needed more queens.

A truly bizarre comment.

Honestly, Rogue slapping Solar twice is a bit embarrassing for Solar.

It really is. I've been watching this game far too long to actually believe Solar would win.

How was serral vs her0? Cause her0 looked really good vs reynor then got 2-0 by serral?

Or just reynor his form?

Serral did Serral things. Game 2 in particular was an exciting game if you want to rewatch it.
