Was Leenock in the military? Feels like I haven't seen him in years.

Solar vs Gumiho if Gumiho was at peak condition would be a SUPER close and epic series, career wise I see the two as very even. But Gumiho just got back from the military so I have to believe Solar is highly favored this time around.

I can't tell if they found some near-perfectly calibrated algorithm for finding matchups where every outcome would leave me sad to see the loser go, or what. Same here, it is the most sad tournament ever, I hope they can make it 4 players group stage so everyone get more chances to show off.

Good for him, although with Parting then Classic in back to back code A is just cruel. On the surface Gumi seems to have a pretty tough match, but as someone who've watched 2016-17 online cup, it's probably Solar who's losing sleep over that one.

Classic and Gumiho are in the exact same situation. It's so similar I can literally do this. ![]() Fate is always so mean on Aiur. With only 4 Toss in Code A, the 2 best hopes (sorry, not you, sOs) has to clash in a mirror. That is many Terran, yes? Should've just let the puny humans duke out against each other. Aside from Dream (and maybe Cure), it's not like any of them will be filling the gap left by TY and Inno...

I hope Classic will make it through, though it sucks to have to take out a good protoss on the way.

Oh I'd agree that Zest is still favored for the exact same reason Solar is, my comment is just noticing the pattern that Zest is now facing what should normally be 2 automatic Code S Protosses in Code A in back to back seasons. I can't remember the last time Solar and Gumiho faced off, I honestly can't since Solar spent a lot of his time during Gumiho's prime stomping around in the other regions. Now back in GSL, he faces Gumiho in what I would consider to be Gumiho's best match up. I'm just making two different observations in the same post. I do not think Classic is favored at all vs Zest, but I would still nonetheless consider him to be an Elite Protoss. Very few Protoss players have anywhere close to the kind of championship pedigree he has throughout his career. Ironically, Zest is one of those few.

Even though it's probably less fair to the competitors it can create some high drama matches early on in the tournament, which is nice when a lot of the group stages in the prior format could be pretty cut and dry unless there was a major upset.

GSL has always prioritized drama over anything else. That's why the Group Selections is still a thing. GSL survives by feeding off of the drama. Western Fans should understand that by now.

A good compromise would be 4 players groups, with 2 bo1 to determine the upper and lower players, then bo3, like in ASL. Two good players could come out of tha 4 player group while still expediting the process a bit.
