As part of the StarCraft II 10th anniversary celebration, Blizzard SC2 team member and former TL.net writer Monk has compiled his list of best StarCraft II games.
Monk used to help compile and write the TL.net Best Games of the Year lists, and I'm glad he's let his elitist streak slip into these Blizzard articles as well
Check out these articles and the games! These matches have all stood the test of time, and make excellent viewing even 10 years after StarCraft II's release.
Ah yes Kiwikaki vs Stephano. There's quite a bit sitting around doing nothing, but at least the payoff at the end is worth it. Another game that it reminds me of from the same time period (where the sitting around was even longer, and the payoff was definitely not worth it) was Darkforce vs Mvp (also on Shattered Temple) for that Geforce event. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a VOD available for that one.
Mvp vs Squirtle not better than MMA vs DRG? wtf get outta here with that. Mvp vs Squirtle was arguably the best game ever played let alone just in 2012.

Just watched MK vs. Kyrix and... the lack of upgrades in so many old games always confuses me. 3/3 vs. 0/0 games seem so ridiculously stupid if you look at it from today's perspective.
kiwi vs steph was so good. I think Fist of Neeb game is my current best game ever, but my mind can be changed.
Anyone can help me remember a game? It was a weekend tournament. I think it was on Polar Night with Leenock vs Patience, or San or smth. Game ended with loads of Carriers having no money for interceptors and a bunch of spores and the final fight was Drones fighting Probes.
Some fine games here indeed, was always great to see games with something genuinely new being shown that you’d never seen before being brought out in a high-stakes game.

I don't know. Mvp vs Squirtle is the best series of all time IMO, but as far as individual games go, MMA vs DRG Game 7 might be a little bit better. I don't mind it being ranked higher.
This HotS part feels like every entry is just taking the top of that year's respective TL best games list as a guideline with Life redacted out of 2015. Meanwhile fellow matchfixer Bbyong got to stay for 2014.

Blizzard probably took the Life issue personally because he's a Blizzcon champion but Bbyong never had the international clout.

Well, Monk was the Ej/Elentos for the lists during 2012~2014 so it makes sense (other people did help vote/rank but he did most of the compilation)

pretty sad given than life v dream > flash v bbyong
Sorry to say it, but best series of 2015 was Life vs Maru. I know i know .... probably left out because of Life as somebody poitned out but really. As SC2 quality. Top tier. Also may it be the most watched series of SC2? 2.7M views

Some Life/Taeja were awesome. This is quite stupid.

It's about individual games and not one of the games in that series was anything close to being an all-time great.

That's the same for squirtle/mvp tho. Maru/life on expedition is way better than the one with the bc.

The it obviously must be Rogue vs herO in Prolegue.

The BC game isn't that great honestly but it's an iconic SC2 moment the community cherishes. It's like Rogue baneling bombing herO - a lot of nothing and then everything explodes. Also 2015 had a much higher density of really good games. There's a ton of games I'd rather watch from 2015 than Maru vs Life or Squirtle vs Mvp.
Polt vs HerO on Polarnight is forgotten which was one of my favourite games
Also 2013 runner-up should've been Innovation vs Soulkey or Maru vs Dear. Scarlett vs Bomber had one cool moment but other than that it wasn't that amazing.

G7 of Squirtle v Mvp was best game of the series, if the argument was for G6, MMA v DRG wins
Honestly Game five of MKP vs Kyrix was the best of the series (and of the year) by a considerable margin not game 1 IMO. Game 1 was good too but Game five is so intense.

I have to agree with Cricketer here. Game 7 was awesome. Balls of steel to bunker rush there.

I think it’s fair for a few reasons: 1. MMA-DRG was a sick back and forth - during the course of the game, we could appreciate the brilliance of both players. Mvp-Squirtle was brilliance by Mvp, but also a huge mistake by Squirtle
2. MMA-DRG had a bit of a rivalry going by 2011, having met multiple times in earlier match’s (including a GSTL finals ace match) - Mvp and Squirtle has relatively less rivalry factor in that regard
3. Because the game went later, we saw a greater variety of units in MMA-DRG - the entire Zerg tech tree (except for hydras) was explored, whereas Mvp and Squirtle didn’t get to that due to the game being a lot quicker

The second game linked is the best TvT is sc2's history

well, they didn't occur in the same year
That is a very good point Wax. I was supposed to say Gumiho MMA
I always enjoyed the Polt vs Stephano rivalry that dominated the foreign tournament scene for a few months (I can't remember what year it was). There were some super entertaining games coming out of that. Polt with his tank lines that seemed to stretch across the whole map.

So what's the difference between clickbait and an interesting OP when you're on a discussion forum?

3rd part is out. Agree with 2019 and 2017. 2018 picks are kinda questionable. 2016 picks I just straight up hugely disagree with, especially the runner-up.

The list of games I consider better than that particular TaeJa vs Zest game is too big for this thread but let's take some easy targets:
Before I left TL, I left them with this 2016 list if they ever wanted to make it into an article. You can see my personal rankings for all the games here:

Dunno about Maru's mech play at Super tournament being all that notable. It's just one more instance of mech being brought out as a one-off strategy despite everyone knowing that it really isn't sound against Protoss. GuMiho also played mech that tournament, and in some tournaments before that, TY had brought out mechvP on Neon Violet at some points in the previous year, uThermal has played mech for a weeks at at time (for example on Backwater) when he's feeling really despondent about TvP. It was less of a revolution and more of a recurring pattern of mechvP being a fringe build.

Not including TY vs Zest on Dusk Towers? I can only interpret that as not wanting to be accused of bias. That was an amazing game, and GOTY imo.

In my opinion Diablo games are the best Blizzard games ever made. I have been playing since the first one, and it has been awesome. Others like World of Warcraft are also really good, and people play them to this day. Blizzard have made some awesome games. Diablo is so popular that you can even buy items for it on https://www.yesgamers.com. I have started playing again, and I did not want to start from the beginning. I bought everything I needed, it is nice having the runes and best items from the start, it makes it much easier to level up later in the game.
