The Code S qualifiers (Code A) took place over two days on April 1st and 2nd, determining the 24 players who will join 4 seeded players (top four of the Super tournament) in the first Season of Code S.
The revised format of Code S will see 24 players compete in six GSL-style groups in the first phase of the tournament. The 12 advancing players will join the 4 seeded players in the second group stage (effectively the same as the old RO16).
Code S Season 1 is scheduled to begin on April 11th. Group draws will be announced at a later date.
Gotta say, I'm not sure any players outside of Dark or Maru really stand out. I think I'd put my money on Dark, he should've taken the finals if not for underestimating Maru and throwing the games.
But awesome to see Special & Scarlett! Special beat soO to get there.
Good to see each race almost had 1/3 of the spots this qualifier (Serral and Reynor are missing in these qualifiers although I consider Serral and Reynor to be within the top 5 Zergs in the world).
The qualifier for IEM was aweful for Terran with only 5 Terran qualifying out of 24 spots for the main event. And then the GSL Super Tournament qualifier was also aweful for Terran with 4 Terran making it to the main event out of 16 spots. But it's good to see some balance in the qualifiers for this GSL, as we came very close to 1/3 for each race.
TOP's last appearance in the GSL was in 2011, in the old Code A in GSL November. He did one MLG in 2012 and had a strange run at HSC 12. In-between, he had long stints signed to two different scam orgs.

I missed him. Thought he was seeded. He does stand the best chance depending on his attitude lol. He and Solar are kind of interchangeable imo. Solar is scarier because of his drive to win, but rogue is better on a good day.
Special makes a RO8 Dream disappoints again Bunny and Ragnorok don't make it past the RO32 Solar doesn't make it past the RO16, AGAIN Zest makes the finals

Fan fact: Rogue was the only zerg to qualify on day 1 of the qualifiers, along with 6 protoss and 5 terrans.

Which is fine because Dark and Solar were already seeded so they didn't have to qualify. And then Serral and Reynor didn't participate in this GSL qualifier. So many of the top Zergs in the world were missing on the first day of the GSL qualifier.

Besides Zest only the Special prediction can be considered somewhat bold

I never made a comment about any implications, just shared something I found interesting... and potentially promising.

This tournament has got 7 protoss, 9 terran and 8 zerg in the Ro24 groups. That is one terran too many and one protoss too few for perfect distribution. You said the balance was awful in GSL Super Tournament with 4 terrans out of 16 players. There were 5 zerg (perfect number) and 7 protoss. That is also one terran player and one protoss player away from perfect distribution.
How come the distribution of one terran player and one protoss player too many/few gets the "good to see each race almost had 1/3 of the spots" this time while the Super Tournament gets the "aweful for Terran"? Is it because fewer players make anything from perfect seem uneven, while more players even the curve out a bit? Or is it because one tournament can have an exact 1/3 per race so one off seem less striking than when it cannot be exactly 1/3, so any uneven distribution is more visible?

Probably not gonna happen. While I can see Teaja taking a series and with a lot of luck even advancing to the next round, Bomber is pretty much one of the weakest players in the complete field right now.. Not getting last in his group would be allright for him in my view.
This tournament is like all of the old guard of GSL returning to face what remains of the KeSPA invasion and what GSL old guard from the older days that are still on top.
I'll be cheering for DRG to make and Creator to return to form and become Code S regulars again, but I can't cheer for anyone except Maru to win G5L for the whole tournament.
He and Dark looked so much stronger than everyone else in the Super Tournament (except Innovation). If that carries forth to this tournament then I will not be disappointed.
I d add Percival and Chance to that list. while not realy well known, they are new blood and had quite good runs. That would make a total of 14 Players to fill in a Code A Would be great to see something like that Edit: can t Wardi make a "Code A" invitational with these Guys for a couple of $$?
Meh, I really hoped to see some new faces. Zoun, Chance, Percival (especially Percival) - new blood. This pre-Kespa lineup of pros who weren't good enough to compete in Kespa era but return now sucks.

you don't like these players because they "weren't good enough to compete" yet you want to see zoun chance and percival who have never won anything?
