It's way more likely that SC2 being the final bastion of RTS esports before it inevitably fizzles out in the next year or two, if not even sooner. Uh, no? While I don't think that W3R will overcome SC2(unless Blizzard invests some money) I don't think that removing support off SC2 will kill it and all the e-sport will be suddenly dead. Sure, it will be way smaller, but dead? Don't think so, BW didn't die either...

The Chinese scene will surely support it further down the line, but like BW currently, it won't be the same in terms of mainstream attention, financial investment and long term sustainability. My point is W3R isn't going to be the successor of SC2 as a premium tier esports RTS that Blizzard very actively promotes and supports long term. I do, 100% hope to be proven wrong.

Oh yeah, in that sense I agree.

Doubt that W3 Reforged will be a substitute for SC2. Depends very much on Blizzard I think. If they announce a WCS'ish system with WCS'ish prizepools, a lot of players would be tempted to switch and probably other sponsors then too But for how long? Unfortunately the RTS genre is pretty dead these days. Warcraft 3 Reforged is probably going to be a big hit in the first weeks and maybe months but I really can't see this game becoming the next SC2. The only problem RTS has, it translates bad to console. People claimed RTS is dead for a while now and here we are. Still loving RTS
Of course there will be RTS games, no doubt about that. I was referring to a competitive scene. With players traveling around the globe, team-leagues etc. I believe that the competitive scene in the genre is pretty dead, aside from a couple of community-cups here and there.

I can only asume that the business-lizzards are about or at least think about to cut WCS like they did with heroes. Progaming fto them is promotion. And why should they promote a game that has no competitors but the remake of a 2000s game by blizzard ?

I think 2020 is still good / maybe some budget cuts. But I would still be surprised that if they would just give the Hots treatment to the SC e-sport scene. Not impossible, but at this point i would say not that likely.
