I have thought of "Old Guys Rule" with the Tag "OGR" but that tag has been taken. So any ideas would be welcome, cheers.

I am beginning to think I'm the only player over 50 ! Surely there has to be others over 50 who play. So many good older Players, good work guys. We have some Diamond and Masters in the mix, good work hey !!. I do owe a big thanks to a player from the USA named Elmeanyo who helped me refine my game, that refinement improved my game quite a bit and helped me get into Plat 1v1. Come on guys there has to be someone else over 50, I cannot be the only 1. I like both - Old Generations and Old Gamer of Stracraft, will have to pick one of these. Thanks guys, appreciated.

Her previous experience with "this type of game" was Intellivision Sea Battle against her brother circa 1982. ROFLMAO. So I did a bit of research on that game. For a game made in 1981 or 1982 I was surprised how detailed it was. ![]()

Speaking to some of you genuine older folks here, do you feel age actually physically hinders you much in playing the game on ladder? I’m probably faster and more accurate than I was when I was younger, but a lot of that is due to how I’ve deliberately practiced certain things. I spend a lot of time thinking and visualising about the game, which weirdly seems to translate quite quickly to when I play. Losses make me less salty now I’m a bit more mature, so I feel I learn a bit faster as well from defeat. I’m curious really, I think the only reason young folks have historically been dominant in games is because it’s a relatively new medium, and young people have fewer commitments on their time. My dad was interested in my gaming, but we didn’t play together because he had never really played games himself and I stomped him from the age of 6/7. Nowadays however I can play games with my youngling, because it’s a hobby I had myself. I imagine it’s only relatively recently that many parents will be guiding their charge’s early gaming experiences rather than just observing from a distance. One other phenomenon I’ve noticed is I’m way, way better at navigating a keyboard than most people who are 5-10 years younger than me. My formative years were initially in pre-broadband internet, so to communicate with people across the globe playing games like Diablo 1 and 2, or WarCraft 3 and Starcraft I had no other options than typing, so my hobbies gave me professional tier typing chops. Necessity being the mother of invention and all that, nowadays young people are raised with VoIP and video calling being omnipresent, and the home PC not being the entertainment hub it once was what with smartphones and tablets, so perhaps they lag behind in certain skills that we just naturally picked up by virtue of our environment.

Speaking to some of you genuine older folks here, do you feel age actually physically hinders you much in playing the game on ladder? I'm 47 and first played sc1 when it came out in my 20s. I seem to recall being faster then but it was a long time ago and age... well it creeps up on you. I also still play basketball, and on the court it is VERY apparent that I'm not what I used to be. But it is the same with 'non-physical' activities like starcraft? It's a good question of which there is no simple answer. I do believe that the human male is at their mental and physical peak in their early 20s. Look at all the top people, whether it be sports, science, art, etc... most famous ones did their best stuff while young. There are a lot of other factors too. Some individuals are just gifted, others (me) not so much, so that plays into it. Look at guys like Vince Carter in the NBA and Tom Brady NFL. They are way past their primes and still playing well, but arguably they are gifted. Back to SC2, look at oldies like SoO and Fantasy. Still killing it at way past what would be considered their SC2 prime. But for the vast majority of us, yes, age affects us. Certainly in physical sports, but even in video games that require quick decision making or hand-eye coordination. I just can't react as fast as I could in my 20s, and expect that if I was somehow motivated to practice 8/hrs a day, this wouldn't improve much. When it comes to slower paced games like turn-based, card-based, strategy, we oldies can sometimes hold our own. But then it comes down to time. At the end of my 20s i got married and had kids. Any free time I had went out the window for at least 10 years, but I loved it. Things have slowed down now that my boy is out the door and I have more time, but you know what? This once hard-core gamer has picked up a few new interests over the years that I enjoy as much as gaming, sometimes more. That, and I have a wife to keep happy. Playing SC2 is very much a trip down nostalgia lane for me at this point. Love it just really for the memories it brings back, and not so much for the competition anymore. We leave that to the young guys. We will be happy to kick back with a beer for WCS and cheer you on!

![]() pretend i don't need them (cos u know i'm dumb) after 4 hours of heavy duty gaming i need to walk off the back sh it that could happen if i don't (we require to not ever get stuck ever ever again <3 trust me you don't either not being able to move your back is like you can't do no thing, not a one) i had to add bladder go to loo breaks (i used to have to stop every 8 hours now i got to do it every 4) i think my efficiency at choosing what i do while gaming (multitasking microing really not build order choice or reads on opponent) has never been better / as efficient then again sc2 is a build order game and that's become more annoying with the decade of sc2 turning the corner i admit ![]() i think the important thing is to play, i never mind losing if i had fun so on the whole i don't feel impaired from going over 45 mark ![]()

Well I’ve always been active as well, played Rugby League up till I was 32. Stopped because I was getting to brittle and from the age of 28 it became obvious when I was being tackled by a younger player, the hits where much much harder than guys around my age. I played on the wing or as fullback and speed also dropped off the cliff for me at 28, at least that was the point in time that I noticed it. I think it’s all relative, speed – age – ability. The older we get the harder certain things become, with age comes knowledge and life experience which I believe enhances cognitive skills. But with this there is also a drop off point where two particular cognitive skills “Speed of Information Processing and Working Memory” started to drop off. For me personally I noticed this in my early fifties as I was still working in IT, it became apparent particularly when dealing with Servers and other complex areas within IT. For me now it’s a mix between playing VS A.I. and League, I still enjoy very much playing league when the mood hits me, win or lose doesn’t matter just enjoy the challenge. It’s amazing how many different ways you can be beaten. I also ride (Harleys of course) with my wife, she has her own Harley and it’s something we both enjoy doing very much, this I will also keep doing for as long as I possibly can. Remaining young at heart is something that was installed in me by my Farther, absolute champion of a man he was. So remaining young at heart for me will always be, just ask my wife who I sometimes torment (in a fun way) so much that she says “my god it’s like being with a 2 year old” Keep sending friend requests so we can keep building numbers for the “SC2 Seniors” clan (SCIIS) I’ll make sure I accept the friend requests in SC2 and not in the Bizz App, as the Friends in the Blizz App cannot be invited into a Clan. Need some 50’s players, got to be someone out there. I am already being referred to as the “Ancient One” ROFL, thanks for that ElMeanYo. Game on………… (Time to kick ass and chew bubble gum)

I started on Atari back in the early 80s. Both the 2600 console and 800 computer. So I had access to all kinds of games at a very young age. That eventually evolved into new consoles like the NES & 16-bit. My first PC was in 1991, and for that I mostly played sims like Wing Commander and X-Wing/TIE-Fighter. Eventually DOOM and Quake came along. I didn't get into RTSs until the original Age of Empires in 1997.

![]() First RTS and first game in color in general would be Command and & Conquer I guess. Release was about 1995 I think. Then AoE and then Starcraft. Also there was a RTS called "Z" Dunno if anyone ever heard of that ^^ Other early games I remember were Diablo 1, some racing game and the all time favorite Tanks (Multiplayer hot seat where everybody hat a tank and you needed to buy some weapon upgrades and then caculate speed and trajetory and wind and shot your friends in the face :D ) Started early with pc gaming, all my older brothers fault ![]()

Just a reminder guys, for all SC2 players 30+ any level send friend requests so I can then Invite you to the new Seniors Clan. We both have to be online at the same time for me to Invite you to the Clan is all. Clan is "SC2 Seniors" Tag "SCIIS" Is it possible for anyone to send a request to join the clan ? or can you only be Invited to a clan ? Anyone know about that. Game on.............

I come from a family of nerds and in the age of qw, my, much older, brother ran one of the better California servers and threw massive lans at his cyber cafes. The very first game of quake I ever saw was an over-the-shoulder view of .... someone I won't name, playing a 1v1 match against a former pro gamer named Thresh. I had no idea I was witnessing a piece of history. I became addicted. At another smaller lan party a few years later, I caught a glimpse of starcraft. Nobody would play 1v1 quake with me (something I had spent hundreds of hours preparing for) and eventually I got talked into playing that "stupid space war game". A little while later, I discovered age of empires (late to the party for sure) and thus my life long armor against rpgs and mmo's was forged. The irony ... is that every single starcraft hero of my youth, is as old or older then nearly everyone posting in this thread.

Nice to go back down memory lane of 90s games! I played mainly Warcraft 1, dune 2, transport tychoon, colonisation, warlords and some platform and shooter games. I am expecting gaming to be a common nursery home activity pretty soon! In 50 years, we'll all sit in out wheelchairs cannon rushing and watching Top Gun!

I don't care if I lose as long as I'm having fun and trying to learn a little each time on the complexity of the game. When you send your Friend Request, please do so through the SC2 game and not the Blizz app. If it is sent through the Blizz app I cannot invite you to the Clan. I thought it was just me accepting FR's while in the Blizz app, but it seems that if the FR is sent or accepted via the Blizz I can not invite you to the Clan. So send your FR while in the SC2 game ![]() Also is there anyone who is a current Clan member from the US region that I can promote to an "Officer" so they can Invite new members to the Clan ? As I'm in Australia I'm not always available to do so with the time difference. It will also mean that players wanting to Join will need to send you a FR as well in order for you to Invite them. Wait to hear from anyone who is Interested in doing this ![]()

I'm a 38 year old who occasionally plays, but could never find a group 'old' enough to play with. I played all the original RTS including Command & Conquer, Warcraft 1, Age of Empires, Annihilation etc. My ID is Martyr#11355, I used to be a Master Protoss in Wings of Liberty but haven't really tried to climb the ladder ranks since. Is there a discord channel where we can all have a chat and practice with one another and perhaps play some 2s? Cheers!
