WCG is back! It’s been 6 years since our last tournament. This year StarCraft franchise has joined us once again and we wanted to do something special! This year we are having an invitational tournament with 4 pro players.
- Neeb - Maru - Reynor - Cyan
On top of that we will be holding event tournament with the fans! If you wish to play a tournament with one of these players, head over to the link below and register. Four lucky players will be chosen and invited Xi’an China to compete with the best of the world! (flight/hotel will be provided by WCG)
We hope to see at WCG 2019 Xi’an Grand Final!
EDIT: Please note that there will be 2 different tournaments scheduled for StarCraft II at WCG 2019 Xi'an - Pro only tournament (4 players) - Pro + Fan tournament (8 players)
Wow that ancient picture of Neeb when he was still with Fnatic XD
This should be hilarious and I am VERY surprised they are budgeting 4 flights for fans to compete. Surely they are not just going to randomly choose a low-league player to fly all the way to China for this event that will likely have very little attention outside of China.

The fans will probably have to be Chinese fans just because of the visa situation. There aren't many countries that have visa-free entry agreements with China.

It's something as opposed to the nothing there was from WCG since 2013.
Would be nice to have another $50k tier event, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm sorry but this is a joke. Rather nothing than this 'fun' sc2 event, they could do FFA with fans too..., If they would do 4-man bracket containing Serral Maru +2 im good.

but there IS a pro-only tournament :o
My bad, I should read it carefully next time. U think Serral got invite and just declined it?
Wasn't it that alibaba bought the WCG franchise and made WECG out of it?
Am I missing something?
The esports disciplines look very strange: Clash royale - strange but i guess it's popular enough Crossfire - WTF?! Dota 2 - OK Hearthstone - OK Honor of Kings - WTF?! - googled it - popular chinese mobile game warcraft 3 - WTF!?

Crossfire is huge in Asia, as is Warcraft 3, especially in China

I don't know why Crossfire is so big through, game is just weird. Feels like COD & CS:GO had a horrible baby.
People being surprised about wc3 is always amusing .
Well this sounds like a fun idea, I wonder if any of the fans will be known from TL or Reddit.
The players for the pro tournament are really nice, but it makes you wonder if Serral declined an invite, or if Reynor was chosen, because he was the WCS champion at the time.
As a Chinese who been Xi`an before. The only thing I can tell u guys is don't ever expect that it could be a good tournament. It's doubtable that Xi`an have any resource to make this tournament "acceptable". They probably even don't have any experience to hold a esport tournament. We might facing situations like lack of streaming, bad internet connection or even cancel the whole sc2 tournament.. Frankly, I don't trust any Chinese esport tournament that is held at inland China..Sry about my bad English.

they don't ask you what league you're in when you sign up..

As far as i know since i mostly play Dota 2, China is always a place for Dota 2 Esports organization and never had connection issue. I think the management is at fault if they ever have any issues. The match will be tomorrow, we will eventually know it. Good luck ~
Kind of surreal to see the 'Premium Networking Party' running concurrently with a cosplay contest just adjacent to it.
The sc2 tourney will be held at the Game Sports Stage rather than the Samsung Stage (presumably the main stage, in a separate hall). Hopefully the place is totally packed by 10am lol
